Millar wrote the first Civil War where started the trend of the heroes behaving like manipulative bastards and until in nowadays the things never changed. So I don't think that even Millar can fix Marvel at this point.
Sorry, but one man returning ain't gonna save the burning dumpster fire that is Marvel. The company is just too heavily invested with ideological driven activists that have utterly destroyed almost everything and driven so many of their long-standing fans out. Even now, Marvel just continues to double and triple down on the same old crap that has tanked sales and driven fans away in droves. In order for Marvel to be saved, you would need to do a complete purging of the company from top to bottom. And not just the activists, but a lot of the veteran writers as well, like Mark Waid or Tom Brevoort, who are just as much to blame for the company's downfall as all the rainbow haired freaks. Sadly, that ain't ever gonna happen. If it didn't happen before when things were starting to get really bad, there is no reason to suppose it will be done now, even with the comic book industry upon the knife edge of death.
@GuyR-c7u I agreed w U. Millar' mid writing is 50/50. I fell off with his books when the ambassadors run. I stopped following when time travel included in Big Game issues. I said Mr. Critical thinking being more like a Mark Millar FanBoy
The only hope is that he creates something so good, and pulls in so much money, it wakes some people up and they remember what their job is, and they start trying again. Slim chance, but possible.
@@Aloysius10 I don't think they can, he only has limited time(12 weeks?) due to his Netflix/Millarworld commitments, and I believe had to get permission to even do this in the first place.
God, I want to hold on to that hope but here is the thing. They know how he is and the people around Marvel are going to try to stop him and that is just the truth of it all.
Millar. The man that wrote my first ever comic, The Ultimates. He is the only man that could get me to seriously consider getting into superhero comics again. The man, the myth, the legend.
Could we have bright, happy, adventurous heroes vs villains again? No super dark, blood and guts crap. Classic heroes vs villians. No deconstructing, no gray areas, the bad are really the good guys
👆 Yes to this. Where the heck are the Claremont & Guernwald's of this era. Men & Women that can write a book consistently for even 5 solid years or more with no breaks other than the occasional fill in story. Furthermore, people that just love the medium and the potential that comics offers.
Mark Millar was the guy who brought Marvel back into the spotlight with his Ultimates comic run. That line and Civil War reestablished Marvel as a force to be reckoned with before the MCU even started.
Miller is great, but unfortunately getting one good writer back isn’t going to change much, the company is still a crumbling heap at the moment. It’s a good start, but really everyone needs to go & rebuild from the ground up.
Mark Millar should stay away from sinking ships. His PRODIGY comics are worth reading. Going independent was the best thing he could have done. All this news does is make me realize that Marvel Comics and DC Comics are trying to get back the old fans who have rightfully abandoned them. We'll see how this goes.
Marvel needs more than Millar and 12 weeks they need more talent behind him if this is an attempt to right the ship. Particularly an editor in chief that gives a damn. But my interest is peaked.
Hopefully Marvel is smart enough to hire Millar and let him do his thing, I am pretty skeptical though. It would be a true turning point in culture for sure.
I don't get it. Maybe Wes or someone else here can explain, genuinely. Millar is old school, comes across as anti-whisper-network. Meaning he's actually good at his job...I thought Marvel in it's current constitution hates guys like Millar...and sales. Seems bringing back a writer like Millar would attract the kind of customer (me) Marvel has spent the last 15 yrs trying to expunge. Why would they even want him back???
I still have hope if it's Mark going back to marvel. I hope Mark gets a dictatorship like control on how his project will go. Hopefully without any of these woke shitshow talentless hacks. Until that day come true and I'm holding the comic book in my grimmy hands....Excelsior!
I'm asked the thing if you generated marvel billions of dollars which he didn't receive nearly enough why tell him the generate them more money let's stop being prisoners through these mega corporations and marvel and DC are not comic book companies anymore they are branches of multimedia corporations Disney and Warner Brothers The major issue with so many comic commentating is that you don't look at the history of comics that there have been hundreds of companies during a golden age that succeeded I mean Shazam the company behind that literally dethroned Superman The problem with the American comic book industry is this narrative that if DC and marvel don't fail we will succeed no man they need to go let them go
Checcetto is needed. Find a good artist who is 30-39 years old that can afford to be absent. Get the artist to work hard with no deadlines on the Millar event. Then a new top artist is made. I'll be interested in collecting it just because of Millar's pitch.
Well I will take that as a positive. Millar should also have the clout to bring in who he wants as well. Or he should be making that a requirement of his doing the project. On the step ladder of success he is higher then Hickman so he should be able to write that in and settle it as a potential issue going forward. One wonders....only major group of heroes he hasn't touched at Marvel is the X-Men....Hmmmmmm. Although I think he gravitates toward the more traditional heroes and not the mutants. And yes, the Superman up for grabs in 9 years is not the modern Superman. It will be a earlier version of the character that DC will lose. WTF20.
Just as it is with DC, they could bring on some older writers, to put out something that might appeal to comicbook fans, but unless large swaths of people are fired, the company won't improve. Both companies simply need to let most of their people go, writers, editors, even some artists, dismantle all of the terrible continuity they built, and examine what actually got comic fans, of all stripes, excited, not just twitter/x junkies, who never cared about them and never bought them.
Man if she truly cares about comics like he says he does he'll just launch Miller world hire new talent publish establish Indy guys and accomplish what image comics did when they dethroned marvel and/or DC for the number two and number one If if marvel in DC need to be in better hands then someone needs to finish them put that dog out to pastor so someone could buy it and make it better or at least license all of them
He doesn't write established characters in character, either. I know he was on the side of the Comic Book Palace guy, and i loved that, but he's not any better at writing people in character than your typical pink haired narcissist that Marvel or DC currently employs
Him returning is a massive L, the indie space is growing. He will now be more controlled as he has a job to protect. Now is the time for people to cement their own legacy without restrictions and even better you’ll own the IP.
He's written some good stuff, he's also the idiot that had Ultimate Red Skull by Captain America's illegitimate kid who carved his face apart, so, really, his edgelord shit is played at this point.
His edge lord shit works in the right context with anti hero and villains. Not with purer heroes like the Avengers with his Ultimates. He has written books I have loved and also loathed. More fun than fail.
@@PrivateCitizen84 yeah, he thrives more without a corporate leash for lack of a better term. Given Marvel is so pearl clutching they won't even let Peter marry, I don't see Millar being savior mode here, you know what I mean?
You know good writers are capable of writing different types of stories right? I assume you are one of these clowns that call Ennis an edgelord as well, despite you having hardly read any of his work
mark millar gotta be one of my least favorite writers. the man near singlehandedly fucked the original ultimate universe up with his incessant juvenile edgyness.
I’m completely out of Marvel ( and DC ), even though I keep up with solicits ……. Just in case. I got tired of flushing money, time and interest month after month - hoping, hoping, waiting, hoping, waiting…. Retreads, reboots, restarts, rehashes, relaunches…. If Marvel would let Mark Millar completely - full scale - do the Marvel Universe - all aspects - as he would want to do it - with zero - none - editorial ability to veto his decisions and designs ( including letting Mark hand pick every artist on every title ) …………. I would step back into the Marvel Universe and give it all an honest chance again. If it’s only going to be a matter of a project that, regardless of how great it is, Marvel will keep being Marvel and undo, ruin, diminish, retro-write what Mark would do in the project - I’ll most likely leave it alone.
i Missed this episode i think it went up late but i wanna add a perspective in this one here.... to anyone who check this out.. you know what i think? Im tired of seeing the community having to feel we need another Older person come back and save comics ... if the community have to keep depending on the masters we doing something wrong. we need our comic masters to start Promoting the idea of bring up some exceptional new talent along with them co existing in this business, Last week rob Liefield said something on X, him and art adams were the last teen sensations in comics ( Joe mad ) is one IMO too - But if that is the case that's bad - we need Jim lee and C.B & tom Breevort to come up out them seats too - New people who LOVE this w Passion need to be in Comics, i don't believe they not there i believe alot of these Older heads are Blocking them, i believe these Low Mid Talent is Blocking this too... You Bring excitement back to comics when exciting people are in Comics... spoke to sweeny on X too .. told me it was "the system " - NAH.. we getting tired and accepting anything from anyone... i might be ranting... i think millar would be great .. but i think putting such a big Idea on Millar would be problematic... make comics exciting again .. get the best brains in the room watch magic Occur.
Didn't he say this during your last interview with him? I remember thinking "that's a scumy move on Marvel's part", because I wanted to read that Superman story. But I was still appreciative of them being aggressively competitive. I only wish they maintained that to make their business healthier
There is only one man on Earth who could save Marvel. And it's certainly not Millar. The savior's name is Jim Shooter, to be enlisted as Grand-Master EIC. No need to precise what this great guy would do, it'd be a great bloodshed.
I heard a healthy Big Two helps indies with a knock on effect. I started DC Big Two and broadened out. Millarworld was one of them. So something to that for sure. Being calculated this helps Mark Millar brand and legacy continue, but I also think he loves the medium of Western Superhero Comics. Marvel are cheap now. So is he going to take a pay cut for his passion project to save Western Comics? Anything he writes I would give it chance.
Millar would be awesome for Marvel, *if* they let him write the way he wants to write, and he actually gets a regular monthly title. He wouldn't save the company, but he would at least make whatever title he works on likely the best in their product line.
Gonna stick with manga and collected editions of past comic book runs. But, will check out what Millar does because love King Of Spies and The Magic Order.
I met him once, very smart and friendly dude. Saying that, unless it's a full marvel non-woke reboot (or wiping away say the last 12 years) then there is still no hope for Marvel.
I love Mark and his books, but do not think he will have an impact on Marvel. Sure his new stuff will have better numbers, but he can not do Ultimates again and save Marvel. He did with Ultimates what he likes to do and you can see in all his other work… so what is there to do to push all Marvel books? A big event? A complete new line of books starting with #1? It can be a start to bring back more big names which can be the goal… then maybe they can climb up the hill again… BUT this also means they have to fire all the pink haired cancel pigs also to stay in biz. Will they? I doubt.
Mark Millar will never go back. His answers change depending on who he is talking to. With youtubers like you, he says he's going to convince everyone to come back, and when he is on his own channel with other creators, he says that with the exception of a Superman project he wants to do, he will never go back. I love Millar's work, but he's a spineless coward who just gives whatever answer will make him the most popular guy in the room. He could barely even acknowledge that cancel culture was a thing in comics when talking to Deniz Camp, pretty far cry from the guy who was screaming cancel pig at the top of his lungs. He's basically a politician at this point.
I hope the event is something to revitalize the gaurdians of the galaxy like annhilation or war of kings epcially after the original members all semi-retired after after drax's death .
I don’t think marvel wants to have comics that are well written and well drawn. The people in charge don’t seem to understand that. From your description I would love to know the idea
I don't think I've ever read a comic by Mark that wasn't at least entertaining. He has an incredible knowledge of the history of the medium & how to make interesting stories for decades old characters. I can't wait to see what he does next.
He can't save it. His dark style of storytelling is what ruined superhero comics in the first place. Civil War compromised the ethics of Marvel's heroes and took us into this ethical gray area that ruined the entire genre.
@@Julius.Council3 he tweeted that hes doing a big project with John Romita Jr recently. Could also just be a new Millar world property (or a kickass sequel or something) though
I'm not a fan of Millar. I think he is overrated. Also, I'm pretty sure that he is no longer able to sell a book with his name alone without it being a gimmick. As for the Avengers movies being influenced by the Ultimates, you are PARTLY right. While the costumes for some of the MCU Avengers are definitely based off of the Ultimates costumes, the team roster (with the exception of Giant Man and Wasp), their headquarters, and Nick Fury looking like Samuel Jackson is taken from the Ultimates, Loki being the threat that brings them together and mind controlling the Hulk is taken from the 616 MU. Also, Nick Fury and SHIELD putting the Avengers together was first done by Rob Liefeld in the garbage HEROES REBORN AVENGERS series. The Avengers were also a government run superhero team in the equally awful AVENGERS:UNITED THEY STAND animated series.
No, the Ultimates are not the same as the MCU characters. They might look similar, but the Ultimates are unlikable and would turn away the general audience. I hated most of Millar's writing.
I love Millar but he dissapointed me greatly. He spent a great deal of time talking about his glorious Superman project only to turn to Marvel again. I don't want to see more Marvel from Millar, I want to see more Superman from Millar. Public domain Superman won't cut it, he won't be even be able to use Lex Luthor nor a great deal of the mythology he likes so much.
