That sad reflective look right at the end of the video seem to convey a thought of what might have been... Irrespective of his no doubt underacheivement in the international game he leaves a wonderful legacy in the game. Over a 100 first class 100's, a first class average of over 50, a triple hundred & a career that played out into his 40's showing his absolute love of the game. Respect bloodaxe

A top class batsman who probably underachieved and probably not utilized at optiomum level by England team. A great technician who had the technique and class to stand against Aussie great bowling team of mid nineties till 2004. legend mark ramprakash!!!

I always wanted him to do well, and it gave me a lot of satisfaction whenever he did. Average of 42 against the great Aussie side, but I will always remember him for the fantastic catch he took in Melbourne in 98 that turned the game around.

Was a brilliant batsman and to my mind could well have been one of our very best had he not continually failed to get out of the twenties. Brilliant player one who i paid to watch just never really came off. Gentleman also

Agree. Ramps was a very talented batsman in my opinion, he just lacked the mental strength to consistently rack up big scores in tests. Similar to Graeme Hick actually, another wasted English cricket talent. The selectors were a joke in the 90s, English crickets darkest days, by constantly changing the team and dropping players, then reinstating them, etc only served to shatter the confidence of players and the constant change of personnel meant that a solid team could never materialize!
@shantigunasekaran7588

Sort of an unassuming character. England became a ordinary team from the mid-90s and by the team 2002-03 ashes finished. England team needed rebuilding and they finally won in Australia in 2010-11 after 24 years

I saw all of his Test career and the only thing Ramps did of note for us was take that blistering catch off a full blooded Justin Langer pull shot which turned the 1998 Ashes Test in Melbourne that England ended up narrowly winning.

The strange thing about Ramps is he averaged over 40 in Ashes Tests. Of himself and his contemporaries Thorpe, Hussain and Atherton he was certainly the most gifted, but all the other three had by far better international careers. There's many apologists for his failures at the highest level, and Ramps himself has pushed the blame elsewhere at times, but his obvious mental weaknesses are what caused him to have such a bad time with England. An average of just 27 in 52 Tests is simply poor and having played so many Tests, he certainly can't say he didn't have the chances.
