Mark - this was a fantastic video and I appreciate the time and details. It turned out beautifully and I learned a lot from watching. I bought Glenn's ebook and cannot wait to get things rolling. I wish I could find 'a sauna guy' to help with the build near Boise, Idaho :-) Quick question; is that a Medium sized Kuuma or a Small?

Hey Andrew, I know, super late response! It is a medium size.

Looks like I can build an Outdoor Sauna for about $3500. I don't plan on spending more than a few hours a week. I'm using more of Picnic table construction, 1.5" foam board insulation.. the real McCoy Home Depot Douglas Fir 2x4 on the inside, Smart Siding on the outside.. a real 9KW Hot rock special w/220V 50A GFCI breaker in the box, dedicated feeder w/ #6 AWG in conduit, and cut off switch within 10'. Next to it is the Chest Freezer Cold Plunge.. (+$1500).

Found some rotting dual pane windows on Craigs list.. picked out 4 with good seals. We'll see how they can take the temperature! Probably blow the seals out, but maybe not.. Great glass for $50. Easy to reframe in that georgeous red Douglas Fir..

Nice job and it looks great. Got a dry sauna going in the basement soon and we'll be starting the work very soon. Quick question, what speakers are you using for your sauna? I remember that you mentioned running speaker wire in the room but I wasn't sure if the speakers you're using are heat sensitive or not.

Ended up using outdoor rated Polk off of Amazon. Just something inexpensive for now to see how they hold up under the heat and humidity. Would like something that sounds better, but my family can't really tell, but I'm a borderline audiofile...

Mark, nice job and looks great. Question on the stone! Are the stone natural? If no, can I have update on the stone. Hot, cold, moister... Is it coming off, any problems since you build last year?

Nice build. Kuuma is the best.

Awesome build! Did you add furring strips over the foil to create an air gap behind the hot room T&G cedar?

Same question I have.
@saunatimesjournal
@saunatimesjournal 11 месяцев назад
yes.. i think Mark did air gap. This is optional if using material like cedar that doesn't suffer from moisture decay.

Did you put motor between the wedged wood pieces underneath the Durock, or did you just put the durock on top to the wedged pieces leaving gaps? Thanks!

What was on top of the cement board? Thinset with a mesh it looks like? Why did glen choose this method over the tried and true vinyl cement patch?
@thebusinessexperience
@thebusinessexperience Год назад
Hey Marshall, yes, thin set with mesh over the cracks. Not sure why he recommended this over the vinyl??

I prefer vinyl cement.. it's a magical product perfect for skim coating over cement board.

@@saunatimesjournal interesting, I did end up using vinyl cement over cement board but with an added sealer for complete waterproofing. One day soon I will be completely finished my sauna, I might post the results on sauna times.
