He attacked a guy that had one eye which he could see out of. Don't try to make it seem like he was completely blind. The Vietnamese guy said himself he lost it during a war. Stating the facts surrounding the assault is not a "save" or an "excuse". It's just the truth. Do you think it's okay to lie? You don't need to invent things to make something seem worse than it is. It's already a bad thing. If you're going to criticize someone for something bad that they've done then you do just that.

*This is my opinion* We all make mistakes, especially when we are younger, but not everyone commits a hate crime and ATTACKS PEOPLE physically. Atleast i hope its not normal for 14 year olds to attack people. Maybe he changed as a person (there is a big chance he did) but he should still man up and face the full consequences of his actions and a little guilt or whatever isn't punishment. Im not saying he is still a criminal but this should stay in his records. Period. Some people won't feel sympathy for the victims and just shrug it off, but some will. Even if he was a black or asian kid attacking white kids simply because of their color then it's the same thing for me.

The point he has changed his ways (who hasn't since they were teenagers). There is no way his PR consultant would have agreed to this, voluntarily raking up his past and considering his current standing there seems little advantage to him in doing so. He is setting a good example. I was never a Wahlberg fan until The Departed (in which he was brilliant). But this seems like a very brave move that might inspire others.

Is there any interviews where he actually discusses the issues of race? Like what he was thinking as a young man, where he learned his bigotry, and why he knows now that it's wrong? Just because you're a successful actor and rich, doesn't mean you've truly evolved from an intellectual standpoint. He could very well be the same asshole, just with money and a filmography now.
@whitedevil2
@whitedevil2 8 лет назад
Boston in the 70s was a hotbed of racial bigotry, as discussed by several other noteworthy natives. growing up after that, in a poor neighborhood in a poor family that was being split by divorce, it created an atmosphere for hatred to brew.

I can understand that, I just wish there was an interview where he reflects on the issues of race to atone for the mistakes of his past. I find it sickening that Matt Lauer didn't see fit to mention the fact that Mark made racist statements to his victims. I believe that Mark is getting by on his white privilege as far as that goes. I believe that he is remorseful and I do know that he has worked with wayward youth for decades but still.... I think that whole bit about him having to deal with the gang in the neighborhood was bs. Donnie was already in New Kids. He was rich and famous. He lifted his family out of poverty. Bullshit that Mark had to deal with those goons. I think his victims should decide if he gets pardoned.

So all the famous black rappers and actors who reached fame and were involved with drugs and gang violence the same way mark has don't count. I feel like the character he portrays in his movie FEAR it is actually who he really is in reality. I lost a lot of respect when I found about the violent way he attacked those men. yes he says he was young and it happened 27 years ago but I have never actually seen him looking or sounding remorseful.

Yeah, thats the thing that bugs me too. Like I get that he was a teen and bad neighborhood influence, but why doesn't he ever say, sorry or apologize? In the interview too, he puts emphasis on how hard it is to change. How great he is to change but not a hint of remorse for the victims with life long trauma and scars.

I don't get why this man, Wahlberg is forgiven by so many for his offenses and Kevin Spacey is treated like evil incarnate. What Mark Wahlberg has done is far, far, far worse.
@cindyp6528
@cindyp6528 6 лет назад
Gwen R Don't try to downplay Spacey's crimes. He sexually assaulted multiple people, including minors. He should be in jail. But I agree that what Wahlberg did is worse. He disgusts me and I've never watched anything that he's in.
@gwenr8201
@gwenr8201 6 лет назад
What crime was committed by Kevin Spacey? Until last year, the age of consent in the state of New York was 14. It has been raised but only very recently. I think it should be 18, but the law is the law. Please be specific about Kevin Spacey's "crimes".
@cindyp6528
@cindyp6528 6 лет назад
Gwen R I just told you what his crimes are. Or were you not aware that sexual assault is a FELONY. He forced himself on many people, including underage children, that did not give their consent. Also, it wasn't just New York that he committed his crimes in.
@gwenr8201
@gwenr8201 6 лет назад
I agree that any unwanted touching (including touching someone on the shoulder) can be an assault. I have been assaulted and harassed myself many times. I am willing to hear about his crimes, but I have heard no stories about children or him forcing himself on anyone. I don't call touching someone FORCE necessarily. The phrase, "sexual assault" has been so corrupted now that I am very dubious when I hear it. Just as now when I hear, "racist" I have serious doubts about whether or not racism is actually involved.

This man just lost my respect. We never see him apologize or remose about his mistakes or the life long trauma and scars he left in the victims. He just wants to be pardoned as he has turned a new leaf. He puts emphasis on how hard it is to change and how we should praise him for it. Like, dude pay some compositions to those poor black children you traumatized or the vitemnamese men you violently assaulted. Like apologize then yeah we belive that you have turned your life around. Saying you have turned your life around with only words and not having news report on any recent violent assault isn't enough.

I know for a fact that some black guy could never get past that and now he and donnie are living the life. This guy didn't even graduate high school. In addition, I am sure if you gave a gangster or homeless racist a job in hollywood, he would change as well. I shouldn't be speculating but I think Donnie or someone he knows got him into hollywood which is just wrong.

Something doesn't add up. If you're trying to portray yourself as someone who is a changed person, doesn't it make sense to with the mistakes you made and show how you've surpassed them. If you remove that felony conviction just because "I'm sorry", doesn't that say if you get successful enough you can manipulate the system? Kids, it comes down to this: DON'T DO THE CRIME IF YOU CAN'T DO THE TIME. And felonies follow you FOREVER.
