I will have all of these foods anywhere! My friends and I used to go to the markets (mostly the Batthyány vásárscarnok) and get fresh bread and a selection of zöld paprika, tomatoes, cheese, kolbász (májas hurka, mmm), szalonna (Kolozsvári or other), grilled chicken and savanyúságokat (töltött csipős alma paprika and káposzta saláta (pickled stuffed hot peppers and pickled cabbage salad) are still my favourites, oh and kovászos uborka) and eat it anywhere we could sit for lunch. A Duna part, Margít sziget, Városliget and Normafa were indeed our favourites places to have a lazy lunch ... I remember that grandma always had several different kinds of (local?) cheeses for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But it might be due to the fact that my early experiences are from the Kisalföld or that she knew that we Dutchies are kaaskoppen (cheeseheads). I really do love all Hungarian sausages but when it comes to szalámi there's only two for me; the téli szalámi from Herz or Pick. The Italian version doesn't even compare to it. And all the other makes even less ... I don't eat that. Don't get me started on pickled vegetables, you already know that I make my own regularly. I just love good pickled vegetables. All vegetables. And I also love disznósajt and I also remember the pig slaughters, starting very early in the morning and requiring a lot of work during the day. But in the end there was disznósajt! I love these videos ... keep on going 👍

Always nice seeing other countries common food. Being of German heritage, but growing up in Wisconsin (USA). Most of our meat growing up was pork and some sort of sausage. The area around Milwaukee was settled by Germans, Polish, Italians, Irish, Croatians, Serbs, and others from Europe. You can see it in the restaurants in our state. It is fun seeing the other cultures. Love your channel. Love your interest in Japan also. Will be in Budapest in November this year. Blessings D and J

TV paprika. Well now I know. As a child I was very surprised on a visit to Hungary to see that what you displayed was basically what we’d have for breakfast every day. Maybe add a slice of fresh baked bread with butter. No disznosajt for me, yes I’ve tried it. I have to agree with Ákos on that, I don’t like the texture either. When I visit next year I will have to see which town wins the kolbász feud, Gyulai or Csabai. No csipös paprika for me, or any food that is spicy hot. I was surprised that you didn’t have hurka. I love your videos and I always look forward to them. I get to learn more about Hungary before I come next year but mostly in English. I am working on the Hungarian. Töpörtyű is called crackling in English. You can buy it in one form pre-packaged at the pub, where it's generally referred to as pork scratchings, I only usually eat pork scratchings when I've had a few beers. I am almost certain that it won't be as tasty as your töpörtyű.

Hungarian food seems very hearty, with heavy emphasis on sausage and cured meats. Here in the Midwest region of US, I couldn’t find any Hungarian restaurants close by. The closest thing that resembles your cuisine somewhat and also being accessible to me is Polish food but they don’t use paprika. I did have goulash stew once at a German eatery, unsure of its authenticity
@StuffedCabbageAdventures
@StuffedCabbageAdventures 27 дней назад
There's lots of different Goulash dishes in the region here, and they do differ from the core Hungarian Gulyás we have here but are still nice. I once had a Goulash with Speatzle in Munich and it was very nice, perhaps the dish you had in the German eatery was related to that version :)
@leventelajos5078

As a Hungarian, I ate Goulash in Germany many times, and I would say they were similar, but quite different at the same time. They use a little bit of a different spices, and ingredients.

Thanks a lot for another great video! At the end of July I might finally go to Budapest again. If it's going to be awfully hot weather, what would You recommend me to do during the day to spend an interesting time outside of the classic tourist spots I've already seen?
@StuffedCabbageAdventures
@StuffedCabbageAdventures 24 дня назад
Hey there! Thank you so much for the Support! Indeed the weather can be really warm these days. Thermal baths may not be the best way to escape the heat, but a classical beach / pool area could be nice and relaxing, for Example Palatinus beach is conveniently located on Margaret Island, it's a nice relaxing place. Or there is a bit further outside of the city, the Aquaworld Resort with unique inner pool area. But if bathing is not ideal then some indoor activities may be good. For example the House of Music is a nice interactive museum for the history of music (World and Hungarian) it's a well done exhibition. In Buda Castle the Cave Walking Tours (not the Hospital in the Rock and not the Labyrinth). It's a good way to cool down as its a consistent 15-17 C degrees down there and the longer tour lasts for about 2 hours. I hope this gives a few ideas, but I can think of a few more 😊
@krti1
@krti1 24 дня назад
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Thanks for the tips, the cave sounds like a very good idea to cool down. How do Budapesters do it, do they go to any typical places in the heat? I prefer anything outside the typical tourist spots, it can be a plain "boring" place, where would You go if You didn't want to be locked in an air-conditioned room? :))
@StuffedCabbageAdventures
@StuffedCabbageAdventures 23 дня назад
@@krti1 Well, most Budapesters flock to lake Balaton or lake Velence during the hot weathers to cool down. Balaton area is nice thanks to the diverse areas with a mix of small towns and villages, more prominent and upscale places like Balatonfüred, old school party and beach places like Siófok, cultural places like Tihany or Keszthely or Wine regions with hikes and natural beauty like Badacsony. We usually go to these kind of places 😊 I personally also like to leave the concrete Jungle of Budapest and go hiking in the nearby mountains of Buda or just a chill time in Normafa. Or if I can't leave the city then go to some beer garden kind of place with friends, sit in the shade and have a cold one 😊 btw, regarding Caves, some more cool caves to visit are Pálvölgyi cave, Mátyás cave or Szemlőhegyi cave, all within the borders of Budapest 😊

Yeah, Rákóczi Market isn't what it used to be, on weekends in the morning it's vibrant but most of the time it's more quiet 😔 if you can take the time, hop on Bus 7 or 133 to Bosnyák tér on a weekend and visit the Market there. @StuffedCabbageAdventures
@StuffedCabbageAdventures 27 дней назад
Hey there! My Producer who's waaaay more experienced with cooking told me that generally any sausage you can get would work, just make sure its a bit softer. Some of the Sausages are smoked and hang for longer and over time they harden a bit, I like those for Scrambled Eggs, but for a Rakott Krumpli or other dishes its best to have the softer ones. If you can't get some nice Sausages at a butchers then in convenience stores I prefer the brand "Gyulai", its always nice :)

Hey im gonna stay in Budapest for a month and its gonna be my first time there. Any advices to make my time fun and far from any trouble? And i was also wondering which public transportation ticket should i get? I guess there is one for a month and it has a cheaper option for the students. However, since i am not studying in Hungary can i still get that? You also mentioned in one of your videos that not to exchange money in airport. Can i also purchase the tickets with euro from the machines? Because i will take the bus to the city center and i wont have hungarian curency when i first land on Budapest. Last question, i think getting a sim card will be cheaper for me rather than using my own line. Can i get a sim card at the airport or should i get that in city center too? Do you guys sell them in the super markets or do i need to find a specific shop?
@StuffedCabbageAdventures
@StuffedCabbageAdventures 21 день назад
Hey there! Let me try to tackle this one by one :) Regarding having Fun that's a bit subjective. I would advise to explore beyond Budapest depending on your available time, and with one month you'll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy Budapest at a slower pace. For a month you can easily get the Monthly Pass (8950 HUF). You won't be able to get a Student Pass as you are not enrolled in a Hungarian Institution. You can purchase tickets with a bank card, the vending machines do not take euro. If you really have to exchange money at the airport then it's okay, its just that the conversion rates there are the worst, but if you do not have a bank card to buy the tickets/passes you can exchange a smaller amount. You can also purchase digital tickets via the Budapest Go app, but for that you'll need a constant internet connection available on the phone. If you wish to have a simcard (like ones you top up with money) you'll need to get them at one of the carriers stores. I believe Telenor is available at the Airport, but in the city center you may have more options at Vodafone or Telekom besides Telenor (prices change regularly as they compete with each other, in all honesty cannot go wrong with any of them, but if you want you can visit them separately and get offers and then compare which suits you the best). The reason why you need to go to the carriers store is that they will need to take your information. I hope this helps :)

Hey there! Unfortunately thats even more difficult to answer. If you constantly travel and seek out new experiences it will be more expensive vs taking your time, aking it slow and not traveling a lot and trying to experience things on a budget.
