I met Marlene when in the Army 1964: she was so nice to me, gave me her autograph. I have told the story thousands of time ever since. I pray she is in Heaven. A great lady indeed!
Oh my god I am so jealous lucky u was she really beautiful in real life to ,my dad saw rita Hanworth in Dublin in the 50s when she was married to the aly Khan and he said she was literally breath taking everyone just went silent she was just stunning but extremely shy god love her
My parents saw her 1 woman show on Broadway in the 60's and to this day my mother still talks about it. She said when the curtain opened the entire audience gasped and applauded and then for 2 hours she held the audience in her hand there was total silence while she sang, people cried over Lily Marlen and applauded and screamed bravo. After the show there were a thousand people waiting outside the stage door and she waved and kidded with them. Lets try to find anyone doing that today.
She is 62 here. Her brilliant self awareness came to the fore when after the Royal party had departed the press were clamouring for photographs of the Beatles leaving the other performers (Marlene included) waiting and ignored. Undeterred she walked up behind the group and linked arms with Lennon and McCartney . This was the photo that made the front pages of course....as she knew it would. She was a master of publicity.
brilliant, unique, terrific.... amd more and more. she knows how to do everything ... films, theaters, concerts, and every where she goes... never forgot she was a start....
She was So Mesmerizing!! Such a STAR...They Don’t Make em Like this anymore Folks!! A Beautiful Glowing Spirit...inside & out ;] GOD BLESS Her....Marlene Dietrich...What a Lady ;]
The ever Lovely Marlene Dietrich never fails to entertain. No smoke and mirrors, no chorus girls, no tricks and gimmicks ... just absolute glamourous talent.
Icon and legend are wrongly used today. It takes time for someone to reach such a status. She is a real and true Icon and legend. I just wished i could have seen her live.
From the days when the Royal Vaiety Performance was a major event and attracted the greatest stars from all over the world, including the magical Marlene. I remember listening to this in my parent's bed on a tiny transistor radio. I was aged 9 but even then I think I recognised greatness.
We’re so used to camp parody it’s interesting to see that this is a real performance, mannered yes, but that’s what gives it character and makes it so moving. Real feeing
A beautiful goddess and a lovely lady i saw her on so many interviews & she came across with no diva qualities she seemed so grounded & very humble ♥ ❤ 💖 sheila kelly oxford ❤
I had the opportunity to see the opening Concert of The then New Southport theatre in May 1973 with Marlene Dietrich ,I was 24 now almost fifty years later I still have the special programme. She remains an icon.
Thank you so much for your comment! I totally agree with you! Could you describe Marlene? What was she wearing, how did she sing? Do you know if she would have concerts in tailcoats or jackets?
Marlene Dietrich.
Shout Out to My Grreat Uncle George Fox...He is Buried in Somme’s Cemetery in France. He was a WWl War Hero...We LOVE Ya Uncle George & are Very Proud of You ;] GOD BLESS You Forever!!
Great video capture of Dietrich in her best vocal form. Too bad the video quality is not as great but I'm so happy it is here for us to see. I just watched and listened again. I wish more of her stage performing had been captured on film, especially from her Vegas days when she was THE ticket attraction and knocked out the whole world. Thanks again for this. It is wonderful stuff.
I have never seen this before, so I am - as an old Dietrich fan - very, very grateful to you. Thank you...!!! (By the way, is it the same Royal Performance where she met the Beatles and was prhotographed with them? I ask because she wears another dress on the photos).
Lili Marlene was not a latern girl..this young soldierlove song informs us that he is longing to see his girl friend again ...the latern their Meeting point. He fears that he could be sometimes not be able to come...what will Happen than ? This is not a marching soldier song... like Marlene is singing here.. the Brits occupied this music like they did with Händel...and with the Vera Lynn version they added one Note making it from the Text and music to a Kitsch Song. Nothing to do with the original Lale Andersen Version which Marlene used later too.
@@nightwish1000 later after war...Marlene used the original softer Lale Version. . the romantic Original version..not the war propaganda Kitsch version made in England or US..( Marlene, Vera Lyn )sorry buts the truth )
@@MagicofMarleneMarvinDietrich Sorry my english is very bad..I use translator. My question is which year is this? And there is a complete recording of it. Thank you for sharing it here.
