In his acting school the teacher said to the class "students I want you to be chickens on a quiet Sunday afternoon in any town America. I also want you to know that nuclear war has just been declared and the bombs are launched and incoming." The entire class ran around clucking loudly and flapping their arms up and down mimicking scared chickens. Marlon sat very still and quiet in his chair pretending to lay an egg. The teacher said; "Marlon, the nuclear bombs are on the way." He simply replied; "I am a chicken what do I know about nuclear bombs.”

Marlon Brando is just fascinating. 50 year old interview is completely relevant today.

Brando was decades ahead of his time on every possible level.

As an African and I rarely comment in RU-vid (maybe 3 times since 2004) , I feel obliged to do it again. Marlon Brando is a true man (in my definition), he is not afraid to be himself, speaks about the things that are important to him and swims against the current without fearing the consequences. We here call such men lions in Africa. Impressive is also his education and psychological knowledge, simply said if you want to be a man Marlon Brando is a role model for all young people even today.

Brando is even more captivating than when he is acting. What a man!

Brando was probably the coolest man that ever lived, he had it all and he didn’t give a shit, no one could ever out do him or make him look small, he had that ability to be top dog without trying. he was flawed as well though, to pretend he wasn’t is to misrepresent the man. He hurt those who loved him but he was a complicated character, one of the most fascinating of all time. The power of his charisma was second to none really, he could sit in a chair saying nothing and still dominate a room full of powerful characters, he did it on film, anyone else on screen became secondary. I've studied the guy long time, and seen things differently so many times I have lost count, the man is unsolvable, a unique spirit.

Here I am on June 12, 2023 which is exactly 50 years after this was filmed. Watching on a device in which could not had been imagined at the time. If this film exists on June 12, 2073 an entire century will had passed; and the world will have changed significantly more. Maybe this comment will be read on a device in which cannot be fathomed today, and enjoyed by people born decades into the future. Time…

Marlon brando has such a calming relaxed voice in this interview. He was a great actor, and an intelligent man.

Astonishing to see how far we have fallen in a few short decades. Listening to this, you realise how articulate both the host and the guests were; the humour was witty and didn’t rely stupid sound effects or gimmicks to keep the attention of the audience and they discussed issues of substance.

Brando’s common sense, awareness and honesty is impeccable.

If Brando gets it in 1973, I have no patience for people who don't get it in 2021.

The particular way Brando holds conversation, is so interesting to me. Very soft spoken, and almost seems extremely comfortable with awkward silence.. but yet, still manages to keep you fully engaged in the conversation. He is such a unique breed of person.. Definitely the kind of man I’d love to just sit down with, on the back porch, speak to, and have a drink with.

This is my 1st time seeing the late Mr Marlon Brando in an interview and I must admit , i have never seen any man in Hollywood that gorgeous...jaw dropping gorgeous here...OMG😲😲

Dick Cavett was such a great talk show host. His talent as such is overlooked but hopefully never forgotten. He knows how to navigate a conversation in a civil manner with different kinds of characters. His talent is truly underappreciated.

He had such a magnetic screen presence that it's impossible not to be captivated just watching him. Not something you see with most actors today.

This man was a Greek god. His head looks chiseled out of granite. I think he was Caesar in a former life. He was larger than life. Deep, intelligent and emotive. His grasp of issues and his grasp on acting is amazing. It’s an overused word today, but his presence is existential. He is meta and proto. Yes, a Greek god.

Great to see a magnificent man being so passionate about supporting the native Indian community. Methodical and thorough in describing what we in America have done to the native population.

Brando was always so careful and deliberate when he talked - and always so considerate and generous; never harsh in his tone nor harshly critical of others. He was careful not to speak in sweeping terms or to exaggerate. You notice he was not reactive, even when Cavett tried to draw him in to some kind of reaction. I love the way he very deliberately avoided being drawn into talking about things that didn't matter to him, despite the best efforts of the host. He seemed very self-aware and well-centered whenever I saw him in an interview.....And wasn't he strikingly handsome!!

Marlon was an Empath, A very thoughtful serious but sensitive person with a conscience loathing the shallow disrespectful corporate culture of hollywood. He Seems to almost disassociate in and out at the beginning. Almost like he has spirts moving through him . He is Exhausted from a bad long flight w/ screwed up connections but respectfully shows up soaks up the love and applause of the audience and begins to speak as though he is writing a letter. Carefully. He comes energetically to life as various characters on the movie screen. He was a Sugar plantation Boss with a violent nature in one old movie It seemed real like he was not acting. like it was a couple facets of his complex personality. He sacrificed his reputation for oppressed groups such as the american indians and deserves a lot of respect for being caring and speaking up saying 'How deeply these people are injured" He is in tune with people. feels and understands. We need a creative person like him as president - Not lawyer politicians.

He reminds me of Prince’s interviews. Too cool for anyone. So humble and intelligent that they don’t realize how much they are revered. He had so much compassion before the time of enlightenment. What he talks about is what people are rioting about today! He was ahead of his time! Not many humans get to this level. Rip Marlon.

Im watching this interview for the 100th time, and especially today as it was recorded exactly 50 years ago today. Brando was never out to please people. A proper interview with proper conversation and men of integrity.

Beyond Marlon’s mysterious and on first impressions negative persona, he’s actually pointing out his observations of the world and serious things being shunned whilst unimportant consumerism and misinterpreted media, gets tons of attention. Marlon was a very wise and caring man who saw how not only the entertainment industry, but the way the world was going in the 70s.

As I watch Brando here, it strikes me that the number one component of authentic charisma is being fully present with the person you're talking to.
