Sir Paul is absolutely correct, and the fact that as a society we are acceptable of the failure of the institution of marriage speaks volumes about our values. I see two primary issues, first, that we enter into the covenant of marriage far too flippantly not giving due appreciation to the very nature of the commitment, and second, that we seem to always want the easy way out of an uncomfortable situation. I acknowledge that not all marriages will work for many reasons, but a cultural shift toward valuing the marriage institution would yield greater benefits to our society than could be easily estimated. I'll go as far as to say that in my opinion, the devaluing of the institution of marriage is the single largest issue facing humanity. I realize that is an extremely bold statement, nevertheless, I stand behind it........no single thing would be of more benefit to society as a whole than stabilizing the family. It is the very foundation of a civil society.
