Gosh. This role isn’t “over-the-top” like the academy usually goes for, but honestly the entire film Laura Dern effortlessly DOMINATED every scene she was in. The gravitas, confidence, physical acting - she won the golden globe tonight. She’s going to win her first academy award next month.
@headhusky5707

I think the mannerisms and confidence really strengthens her character (not to mention she's acting as a lawyer so she must be confident all the time).

Please help me understand how Laura Dern is considered front runner for best supporting actress category when all she did in that movie is something any other NORMAL person can do? I mean seriously, have guys actually watched Marriage Story? Jesus, Dern is forgettable, heck she has no memorable scene whatsoever. Yet here's the Academy about to give her an award which clearly she doesn't deserve. This is an outrage. This is bullshit hollywood politics.

The irony is.. those actors who are clearly freaked out about their aging and go full botox or fillers look not just horrible, OLDER. And some actors(including Laura Dern) with their natural aging faces look not just human, more beautiful. There’s a beauty and warmth in natural face expression. As we get older, that face expression is more important than ageless younger looks. Especially actors I think. At least go subtle.

@AFCompany
@AFCompany 4 года назад
I don’t think so. I think Renata isn’t really that nice, and is extremely high strung all the time. She is easily offended and looks for reasons to be the center of attention. She is a workaholic and not really the cool type but the try hard to be cool type. Where as Nora is very mellow and seems to be able to fit in wherever needed by being kind but also manipulative at times. I think Nora is who Renata wants to be actually but is just to stressed out to ever get there. Nora is good at her job and knows she is and doesn’t feel the need to prove it to anyone. Renata is looking for approval.

She was fantastic in this film, every word she said was dripping with confidence and a hint of intimidation. The best moment is when Ray Liotta says "You can't just pretend that the theatre was small and insignificant when you want to move the kid to LA and then pretend it was a massive money-maker when you want to take its money" and she just quickly replies: "Yeah, why not?" with an evil smile and no fucks given. The brilliance of this character is that it explains how divorces get completely out of hand and escalate once you start involving lawyers. Her true intentions are disguised behind fake smiles and $5.99 tea bags with custom branding. Her sharp instinct sees a woman that can be riled up and make this a prolonged (and profitable) custody battle. Scarlett's character never wanted any of the damage that ensues. Her real colors are only revealed in the 45/55 comment. It's just brilliant.
