I think it’s not fair to say Derek wasn’t in to her. He was and he said he was, but he wasn’t in love. And he only knew her for a couple of months. He seemed to try really hard, he just didn’t fall in love in two months lol.

Based on things the ex's roommates said on a reddit thread, she was seeing the ex the entire marriage. She also basically admitted she was at the very least talking to and seeing the ex.

Katie cheated. Whether it was during the show or after, clearly Katie and Derek were still together at least to one of them. And she later went on a date with Zach, Mindy's husband. She is by far my least favourite character of mafs history.

It kind of irks me that Dr. Kirk has given Katie so much of the benefit of doubt regarding her behavior. Professional courtesy? But clearly being in the field doesn’t make people an expert in their own lives so 🤷

It was not production that told Derek about the affair, it was cast members and Katie's family members. Evidently, there were family members of Katie's that were related to and/or knew the old boyfriend. So word got out. Dr. Honda is giving Katie undeserved credit as to her honesty. Katie got into a argument with the old boyfriend's roommate on Reddit and he blasted her out to everyone.

Katie cheating multiple times makes sense as during the experiment anytime that anything is going well Katie leaves for a while and then comes back angry for no reason and talking about how much better her ex is than him also just a “physical connection” is that why you kept saying you loved him Katie

We probably watched a different show about Katie and Derek. Dr. Honda missed the parts where she admitted not being attracted to him and still having feelings for her ex. She also called him a nerd and not her type, I was shocked when she threw a tantrum over Derek’s letters to his ex and when the other girls found him appealing. She was jealous of Taylor because she couldn’t believe that other girls find him attractive. They also rented a house together after the show and lived together so she did cheat since they were still married.

Katie blaming her cheating on the lack of connection... Oh my, she is so manipulative. Also dr, derek said cast members so not prod team but the other girls that were on the show. And Why did we skip here the question that was asked to both, what did you do for the relationship, where derek shows his implication while katie says she just instigated the discussion? I feel it gives a more complete view on the relationship

Her saying it’s her “ex” is a joke. It was the guy she was seeing up until the point the experts told her she had a match. She said at the first couples session that she thought that relationship would lead to love. I completely believe she was having an affair. Just the way she’d pick at him for wanting to write a Christmas song or for laughing with tayshia and then calling him a loser. I don’t know any way to read her behavior except emotional abuse. I’ll admit that I’ve had traumas with people treating me like that, so maybe I’m just mad at her bc or that, but I really don’t think she did the right things in that relationship.

Still waiting for your take on Brandon and Taylor! I also wish you could give Austin and Jessica five minutes and talk about what they did right.

I’m a very avid listener and agree with you most of the time, but I just don’t understand you defending Katie so much. She cheated. She used her therapeutic knowledge to spin conversations, and she never appreciated or respected Derek for who he was. I feel like you minimized her controlling & manipulative behaviors. Not sure how you couldn’t see right through her.

Katie didn't flat out say she didn't sleep with her ex after the honeymoon. She said 8ts out of proportion. She's a liar.

Dr. Honda is such a nurturing soul. I really appreciate hearing his perspectives on people and the grace he extends - it helps me to think about how I can approach things differently in my own relationships.

The host did better at the “counselling” and communication aspect than the so called experts!!

I do think Dr Honda has a bit of a soft spot for katie. Considering that they both are in the same profession. her behavior was wrong, even if you are the only one that feels like the marriage is over. It doesn't take away the sting, of your infidelity. it doesn't make it any less wrong.

I’m so glad your cat made an appearance! This needs to happen more. It would be interesting to get your take on some of the online behavior of the cast during and after the show. Katie made a Reddit account to defend herself, but spoke in third person so she could pretend to be someone else. Then when people caught on she used her dog’s account. That’s some extreme self-defensiveness. I hope you react to the current season of MAFS!

Dr. Honda, I would love to see you react to Jamie and Doug on season 1 of Married at First Sight. I still remember their story to this day.

Meka was sooooo fucking patient with Michael. Like in ways I cannot ever imagine I would be 😂 she’s great, it’s a shame that she wasn’t matched with someone who didn’t have an “un- truth” problem.

Katie rubbed me the wrong way from episode one lol I don’t think she’s a bad person but definitely strikes me as the type of person I’d only be cordial with in real life 😂 That said, she looks super hot in the reunion, ive got to admit that lmao I hope her and Derrick heal from this and find love. Omg, I've been using the vase analogy for the last year or two. XD Mine's slightly different though, and now it seems unnecessary complex. I think of a vase with a wide bottom vs. one with a skinny bottom. A vase with a wide bottom, you can literally bump into it and it won't move, but a vase with a skinny bottom will wobble if you just walk through the room it's in. I had a medication change that greatly increased my emotional lability and it made me feel like a tippy vase.

I hope Dr. Honda eventually does the current season of MAFS.

I keep getting triggered by this Meka and Michael situation, particularly with the notion that it "could have worked." For that relationship to have worked, Meka would have endured a lifetime of resolving and living with Michael's problems. A lifetime of coping and catering to Michael's trauma, which, as this show proved, 100% takes everything from Meka's own worthiness as an awesome human who deserves to live to her fullest potential without the drag of somebody else's trauma. It is not okay that the Michaels of the world suck the life and vitality out of the Mekas of the world. I am glad that she learned a bit more about empathy - because she did. But I am so glad she stuck with her gut and her own heart on this one. One day, when she has a child - she will want a partner in parenting and life. Not another child competing with her actual child. Michael needs therapy. Meka does not need to be a wife-mom. None of us do. And for all of those women who have been sucked into a wife-mom relationship - the squeaky wheel gets all of the oil. And not until the whole bike breaks into bits and pieces and you take your rusty rim and flat tire to therapy, by yourself, will you get the attention you NOW need.

Can't wait until Dr. Honda watches the current season!

I think, or it's my hypothesis that, Michael has had a ton of therapy throughout his life and that he has learned what to say and what to blame and what to use when to best get out of trouble for his lying. In fact there are so many times, like this, where he says what he really thinks and then when he reads the room and sees that what he is saying isn't going over well so he changes it quickly and gets in line and goes along with what others are telling him is right. That's what you just witnessed when he said he didn't believe what Meka was saying was accurate and then Kevin Fraser said "did you not see that she was hurt?" in an incredulous louder tone and he read those cues well enough to realize that no one was buying what he was selling so he backed up and apologized. He still doesn't get it. He has just learned when to change modes. It works most of the time with acquaintances that aren't around enough or long enough to see him and start questioning him but I bet he doesn't have anyone who will stay close to him for long because they can't tolerate his constant lying. So they leave him, thus reinforcing his abandonment issues, rinse and repeat. On and on. He is the cause of his own issues and pain over and over and over.

BTW: I’d have to say this is the most cynical season of the show in quite some time. I didn’t even finish watching many of the episodes. The current season airing, in New Orleans, is much more full of optimism. But has the same struggle of the experts being MIA at times when they could really be helpful. Would love to hear your assessment!

I would love if you reacted to "my cat from hell" or "it's me or the dog" but with your cat or dog lol! I always think the human relationships with their animals are so fascinating! Also your cat is clearly ready for the spotlight!

I feel like the BETTER experiment here would be this. Have couples get married at first sight. Have half try to work things out on their own and give the other half ample, regular access to counseling and see what the success rate between the 2 groups ends up being.

Dr Honda, you seem pretty biased toward Katie. Or your judgement is biased, because she is in your field. She cheated twice, while still married, and you seem to be giving her a pass. I guess we can all be biased.

I would love to see this show repeated (new people, with the exact formula for couple selection) but give Dr. Kirk TOTAL control over the therapists’ interventions. I wonder what type of outcomes would result......???

In normal dating someone may not love you in a few months time. It could take year sometimes. Doing your ex is never the answer.

Is it just me, or is Michael’s version of lying framed as worse than Zach’s? To me that seems very biased by the idea that Zach didn’t mean any harm by it and Michael did, which isn’t true at all. Were I to be conspiratorial, I’d say there was a race bias on the producer’s part in terms of making one character seem less/more offensive than they really are.

Michael is a scary man. I wouldn’t deal with a man like him just because I would be afraid for my life.

I don't understand Dr. Honda's attitude towards Michael. Suggesting that Meka should have worked more with him is disturbing. Obviously, Michael's issues are very deep and would take years of counseling to overcome. In the meantime, Meka's life would be hell dealing with all the lies and gaslighting. She doesn't deserve that and didn't sign up to be someone's victim.

I bet a show that had some real counselling and help would actually do quite well but all these shows just follow the original format. I can see why they do the shows do get a lot of views. This format is so old though and I think a less dramatic and more thoughtful reality tv show would do very well. 😉 you could always pitch one Dr Honda! 😂 it’s not like you’re busy or anything (jk)
