Should we react to the movie? I watched a few clips while editing the video. I even saw that it got nominated for best Foreign movie at the 2005 Oscars. Reacting to a movie would be a first. Perhaps we could watch the full movie and make a 20-30 min highlight of our reaction. That could be doable. What do you think?
Everyone in the village knew she lived in a abusive relation. The conductor wrote this song for her, but she didn't dare to sing til this moment. It's not religous, just wanting to be able to live your life.
She was living in an abusive relationship with that man staring at her leaning against the wall. She sang that song that the conductor wrote especially for her and it is about being free from him. After that she almost get killed by her husband. Helen Sjöholm do that scene really good and as always her expressions tells everything, even without the lyrics you would have been touched just listening to her voice. She is amazing. TOTALLY AMAZING.
I think the audience where touched by the song and surprised that this abused woman who is shy and do not claim any space, had this power in her voice and in herself. That is why it took a while for them to react.
Helen is amazing ..I've been a fan for a long time. I actually played theater with her little sister and brother and was a part of one of the theaters where she first started out in when young(before my time as I joined a the same time as her little sister and younger brother did ..they are also good at singing ). Heard a lot of storyies on how they realized what a special perfomer she was.
The main carachter in this move is a great and charismatic swedish actor. Michael Nyqvist. He is famous in several international movies as the girl with the dragon tatoo (Millenium) and Ghost Protocol (Mission impossible) among many other wonderful movies during the years
You thought you recognized the conducter. His name was Mikael Nyqvist. he did movies with Tom Cruise, Laurence Fishbourne, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Monaghan and many, many more. He died 2017.
Its all about life, the movie and the songs, its about women abuse and life in the Swedish countryside. Michael Nyqvist was a beloved actor here in Sweden, and Sjøholm we all love!
I sang this song at my highschool graduation, it's at the core a song about breaking away from abusive circumstances, her husband hitting her and my mom abusing me.
I'm friends with one of the actors in this movie (The one playing Holmfrid). He told me that while shooting that scene were he lashes out on Arne he cried for 3 continuous hours. Michael Nyqvist (Daniel) was so impressed by his acting that he recommends him for a part in Låt den rätte komma in (Let The right one in)!
