Yeah that gets me wondering. Then again this President would be screwed even if it wasn't an alien invasion really way too much into speeches and not really ground to reality.
There's way too many stereotypes to pinpoint with this film, not to mention mocking them: The naive scientist, the logical politician and the inept military. Tim Burton threw every cliche with this film and satirized it almost perfectly
Yeah because this is supposed to be a parody of 50s alien invasion movies, which included these stereotypes. I think the cards were also like this with their over the top violence.
He missed the twat who reads too much into films and feels the need to write an inane comment 3 years before an intelligent being has the chance to read it....
I watched this when I was a kid and always loved it. It wasn't until recently, when I began playing online multiplayer games, that I realized that Trolls are exactly what these Martians are. 😂😂😂
+Arthur Denorfia I was watching this movie today and noticed the President's actions, reactions and speeches seemed very familiar.. Like Da Ja Vu all over again.. And then I realized.. Obama could have played the President in this movie! My guess, Obama watched this movie about 50 times, before becoming our President.. It was his training film...
+Richard Lee Obama chooses to fight a "war" on elderly smokers and is promoting the HUD ban in elderly housing. Why fight people who will shoot you and cut your freakin head off when you can torment and make Americans miserable? I think the current administration is a bunch of cowards.
@@fionnbarrcasey5247 No one cares for right or wrong, justice etc, everyone cares only about his own profit. And they dont even understand the long term conswquences of their behaviour.
Oh no, it was very touching, the Mars leader truly enjoyed the speech. He was deeply moved, even shed a tear. But that still doesn't change his Mission, destroy humanity.
@@pepsiatlas5452 If you read the novelization, it turns out that shedding tears is equivalent to puking for the Martians. He made the alien throw up, not cry.
Very true when he said or we could just smash it all you can see him tearing up I think he really wanted to learn about the Martians and thier leader seems ashamed or faking either way a very true and honest message why can't we just get along?
Fun fact: Tim burton was told repeatedly by the Warner Bros. to NOT kill off Jack Nicholson, so just for the sake of trolling, he decided to cast Nicholson in two roles just so he could kill him off twice.
Your right on that and I can say for this President really needs to be less on speeches and more on that kick butt type for me. Reality really can hit hard.
That’s because the only thing even powerful enough to take down America would be powerful alien invaders such as these, everyone else America can just walk all over
@@elliottlastnameblank7916 of course that is not. America can set up its military bases all around the world but still there are countries that it cannot simply walk over or even win a war without itself being annihilated
@@davidknell9676 I hate to admit it, but I think it's right to say that no country in the world is able to take down the USA by themselves at this current day and age. The only countries that could maybe hypothetically stand a chance in a war between themselves would probably be China, and eventually Russia, but the only country with a likely chance to win would be China.
Guys. Just so yall know Hollywood is actually talking about armageddon on Mars Attack. Jesus told us to not fight against flesh and blood. Only evil and wicked principal. Why? Cause he also said there will be day like Noah. Indeed nephilims (Aliens) will return back to earth. So yeah Hollywood basically rubbing their plan in our face. Plus look at Mars Attack collection card. They show a lot of weird shit. This movie is going to happen in real life.
Moral of the story. You can't negotiate just with your wants, desires and values trying to leverage reason and understanding when the thing you're negotiating with has a completely alien perspective, unknown values and differing mentality. Throughout the movie the president and a lot of the supporting cast try to rationalise why the Aliens would be peaceful, that they are so technologically advanced that they have no need for war, that they're there to bestow gifts and knowledge, that the dove incident was merely a cultural misunderstanding, etc... Without realising that peace never was an option. The aliens saw weakness and exploited it.
@@johnappleby405 It's just a movie though. There are plenty more where the aliens were peaceful, but the military was far too aggressive and resorting to violence as a first option.
@@serronserron1320 The problem is a reality of the situation people blissfully ignore. Once an alien lifeform makes contact, there's no going back. Unless we have a War of the Worlds style savior, it's inevitably going to be war whether you like it or not.
When real presidents give speeches, it's just not as epic as speeches made by fictional ones. I love how this president was against war to the last minute, even in the tuffest of times. He died for what he believed in.
Yeah then again this type of guy really wasn't going much for President and really can't see the warning signs. Hopefully we're not getting this guy as President in case something like this does happen.
I think he lost them on 2 major points isnt the universe big enough they probablly conquered all other civilisations already and 2 what is wrong with you people lol he lost them at people they are aliens so ironic but a crazy good film thats survived the test of time
I love this scene, it's simplistic, but the message can be interpreted into many different struggles right now. Sure, it's a very cheesy movie. But I still love it
@@sithlorddread8721 feels like a lifetime ago when this movie came out and I was a little kid at the time. Now I'm a adult and looking back I have to give this guy credit. While he was a fool he didn't back down from his beliefs in trying to make peace. And he could give a genuine speech from the heart. Maybe that's how trump was elected into office.
Ultra Owl well the whole pint is that he is not a very smart president, though he expresses his patriotism in this scene, he doesn't really do anything throughout the movie, hell he even has to be woken up in one of the scenes by the general
***** No, he and the wacko scientist (portrayed by Pierce Brosnan) were the only ones that really, really believed the martians were peaceful, even after they killed everybody that came to greet them. If they had fought them from the beginning, maybe they would've survived.
TheConspiredOne no, my point is that if you had you would have seen that no nation really handled it the "right" way. Ironically the US in the movie was very diplomatic in the beginning but, one thing was sure, the Martians proved to just be there for rampant destruction for the sake of it (well that and to clear earth for colonization). This video just shows President Nicholson making a desperate move to save himself, the move sucked but, I guess he figured it was worth a try.
1:39 The Martian leader wasn't crying because he was moved by the President's speech. He was crying because he realized that the President had let down his guard and that this was his opportunity for victory once and for all. (And that all the Martians' time, effort and sacrifice to achieve this conquest was about to be worth it.) He was crying for the same reason a mountain climber cries when they're only a few feet away from the peak of Mount Everest, or the reason a religious pilgrim cries just before they enter the gate to a holy site.
The movie implies that the martians are just big, sick pranksters; so i guess they were cocodrile tears. Just like when he looks down the ground with an apparent sense of duty (when the President says "we can have it all... or we can smash it all"), ie just trolling.
I guess he knew that earth's last hope is surrender, but since martians mocked every attempt to negotiate peace, only hope was to bluff by offering alliance.
A President that cares about his own image and lets the entire country be ruined because he wants to uphold his public image? No thanks, we don't need another Obama.
The sad thing is that even if they were opened to having their minds changed by a speech, they don't strike me as the types to bother having translators of their own so all they're probably hearing is "blablablabla" I do have to love the detail where you can tell the President is trying to sound diplomatic but really struggling to hide how much he fucking hates them lol.
@@zesty2023 He probably knew he was wasted and was gonna die regardless, he just wanted to spend extra minutes doing what is probably his best speech ever
This movie is on a level of very few modern era comedies (Gremlins 2 springs to mind)...it is a rare treat, and I'm so glad Jack was down to play ball.
If I had Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham together and try to have put aside their political differences and work together as a team for the sake of the country and democracy. I would show them this video.
nienawidzeloginu I think Picard would have figured out that these aliens only want blood shed and destruction for shits and giggles. did you even see the movie? very entertaining if you like the old B movies
I think the scene is sad because That the music is playing after when James Dale asks the martians "why can't we all just get along?". But some guys or kids in the comment says "Am I the only person who was upset as a kid when the speech didn't actually work on these big brained martians?" And "When I saw this as a kid, I was so disappointed that his speech didn't work!".
