Saw this movie yesterday. It was surprisingly good. The story was solid and the characters were great. Oh, and it just so happened to have some of the best world building I've seen in a long time.
Jeremie Perin also directed the limited series "Crisis Jung", which is available in full and for free right here on RU-vid. Be forewarned that it is a complete mind fcuk. Three thumbs up!
I'd give it a 7/10. I wasn't exactly sure what the "take away" message to it. The story has some interesting sci-fi elements, but the ideas we contemplate between Bato and the Major in GITS were deeper. Again, I'm not even sure what I was supposed to be left contemplating after Mars Express.
I hope they do a prequel and get a back story of Carlos how did he die and become a machine and what happened with his relationship with his ex wife and kid? Why does he want to come back to her? They need a movie just a story with him and how he has his chemistry with his partner Aline
Also the show lastman, which is a blend of a combat anime and heartfelt found family story with a hint of horror... basically the main character, foul mouthed boxer Richard Aldana is just a regular dude, and his kind of adopted daughter siri are unraveling this mistery about these kind of Jojo style supernatural villains, but are vastly outmatched, which creates a great deal of tension, especially since the show makes the choice of very short, tightly edited episode, instead of using those limited animations techniques used to pad out the runtime of action scenes.
@@TheFilmGeek A little advice on Lastman with a small spoiler. It's a prequel for a comic of the same name, the thing is first season was released while the comic was still running and it changed the story of the comic from being it's own thing to suddenly out of nowhere becoming a sequel to the first season of the show. I highly recommend the comic and i advise to go through both in a certain "release" order since some parts of one spoil story elements of the other. So i recommend this order - comic first, about 2/3 in there is a time skip, at the time skip watch first season of the show, finish the comic and watch second season.
I got a Cyberpunk version of Chinatown vibe. I enjoyed it and appreciate how the movie was cut quick and didn't go overboard with the narrative and kept it a tight 90 minutes
I forgot to bring up the excellent pacing and the tight run time. Thanks for expanding on that. Great film I'm hoping I'll be able to own a physical copy some day.
Good review. I thought the movie was great. A good hard sci-fi story told through a crime noir setting. I appreciated the lack of info dumps and lack of hand holding. The animation is great. It's like a combination of the work of French artist Moebius and Sid Meier. It's a great film and I definitely recommend it.
Man o Man ... I am so glad that this once in a blue moon time, the algorithm struck Gold! I took your word and watched the Movie ... It is now in one my GOAT Lists! THX
@@TheFilmGeek Trust me you don't want to see the so called Halo tv show, even on it's own it's bad, but as an adaptation it's outright hates the source material.
