I did my first volunteering for the RSPB at Elmley in 1985. There was a resident little owl there back then, but it frequented the farmyard buildings. It was that year, that I saw my first Little Egret, which caused quite a stir! I loved your video, not just to see how the reserve has changed, but the presentation and content is top class, so no hesitation to like and subscribe. Thank you both.
Tony thank you so much for your lovely comments, we're so pleased you enjoyed the video and thank you so much for subscribing! We seem to keep missing the Little Owls at Elmley each time we go but to be honest we just use it as an excuse to go back again 😉 it's a really wonderful place!
@@AWilderLife I loved all my times at Elmley, whether volunteering for weeks on end or just visiting. Apparently the farm house is where Charles 2nd stayed just before fleeing England. I must go back at some point for old times sake. I was there in the days of Warden Bob Gomes and his assistant Reg Thorpe. We had a trials bike and I believe an Austin 1100 to drive down to check the cattle and sheep. Happy days! Reg used to occasionally drive people to Stodmarsh to try and see the rare...Cettis Warblers!
Love thos video! You have captured some amazing footage of the wildlife and it is a very calming and informative watch. I especially like that you have put the names in english and latin on the side. I look forward to finding out if you see the owl next time!
Great step up in storytelling and ‘scientific ’ approach. The use of the Latin nomenclature is so useful for non English speakers : no risk for translation errors. Love it!!!
Hello from the USA! I love all the details you’re sharing about the vegetation and the wildlife! Thanks for taking us along. I love going out to “see what there is to see.” What have I seen lately? I had to pause this video to run out and take a few photos of a Cooper’s hawk in my yard! Cheers!
Thank you so much Kelly! Wow a Cooper's hawk is quite the visitor, that's awesome! We're hoping one day to visit the USA and see some of the amazing wildlife there!
Great footage of all the animals you found. The Marsh harriers were really cool. We still waiting for them migrating back to germany. Tue little egret is very rare in my area. Nice you found one.Greets Stefan
Thank you Stefan! We felt very lucky to see everything we did despite the wind! 😀 Hope you get some lovely views of the Marsh Harriers when they return!
I love the videos. My wife and I were watching and she would like to know what brand of hiking pants you have. We could not make out the logo. Keep up the great work.
Very cool, the Marsh Harrier footage was fantastic, as was the Kestrel. Shame about the Little Owl but the year is young and I am sure you will tick it off your list in the near future. Great video as always.
Really lovely to see some of the European versions of the species we have here. I just recently saw an American Kestrel, American Coot, and American Robin. Great video!
@@AWilderLife it well worth trudging out to the spit overlooking the Swale I’ve sat there for hours loved it and the views were excellent and it shows how small we really are in nature’s terms
Hello from Scotland!@ I've never heard of Elmley nature reserve it looks great. I was last in that area crossing the dartford tunnel heading down to dover to cross over into france. Would never have imagined so much wildlife was just on its doorstep. Really interesting to learn more about the Marsh Harriers and flora of the area. I've always been confused about the difference between hawthorn and blackthorn. If you're ever in Scotland you should visit the River Tay reed beds
Elmley is definitely worth the visit if you're ever back in that area, Rose! We are actually hoping to head up to Scotland later this year so we will definitely try to check out River Tay, thank you for the recommendation!
