We took a drizzly trip round our local RSPB, Pulborough Brooks. We absolutely love visiting this wonderful nature reserve and have seen so many amazing things here. Pulborough Brooks is particularly fantastic in the spring so we’re planning on doing another trip here to film and record the incredible dawn chorus. We’re also keeping our fingers crossed to see the regular White Tailed Eagles, as well as the Nightingales that visit the UK in spring. Don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss our future videos!
👯 WHO ARE WE

Whilst not new to photography, I am definitely new to wildlife photography and your videos have been very inspiring. RSPB Pulborough is also close to me and now at the top of my list of reserves to visit. Thank you both.

Thanks Brian! Pulborough Brooks is definitely worth a visit for sure, we personally think its absolute best time of year is spring so between late March and May/June is the perfect time to visit! 😀

It’s a joy to watch your videos.. My mobility has gotten worse over the past few years so it’s a challenge for me to get outside into my favourite nature reserves. With your films I feel like I’m exploring the wildlife there with you. thank you for bringing me on the journey.

Oh dear, I'm embarrassed to admit that I was an RSPB member for a couple of decades without ever having heard of that site. But to combine photography with birdwatching on such a drab day means you are both obviously far more dedicated than I ever was. My favourite reserves in date order have been Rye House, Minsmere and Bempton Cliffs, with the latter probably the most hospitable as well as offering dramatic scenery and wonderful views. Thank you for the video, which rekindled a lot of interest for me.
@AWilderLife
@AWilderLife 5 месяцев назад
Thank you Michael! We actually haven't been to any of the RSPBs you've listed so it sounds like we'll have to make sure we visit them! We'd absolutely love to visit Bempton Cliffs so perhaps we'll have to do a video there 😀 Pulborough Brooks is definitely worth a visit if you're ever down in Sussex 🙂

@@AWilderLife I was actually planning a drive down to Rye and possibly Dungeness, but your part of the world would be completely unfamiliar to me and it looks lovely. Both Minsmere and Bempton Cliffs are fantastic reserves, but Rye House was only mentioned because it was nearest to my home when I started birdwatching. But you are sure to have fun wherever you go, being so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject.

Our favourite RSPB reserves are Pagham Harbour and Medmerry. Medmerry has avocets and I have never seen so many frogs in one place in my life. Pagham has a good variety of habitats and a wide variety of birds and is so pretty. It has terns nesting on a shingle beach (closed to the public so they can nest in peace but you can view it from a path the other side of the water channel). They also had curlews, Oyster Catchers and Red Shanks. It is not too far from Itchenor where you can take a boat trip out to see both Harbour and Grey Seals.
@AWilderLife
@AWilderLife 5 месяцев назад
Wow Medmerry sounds great Fiona, we've never been there before. We've done Pagham Harbour before and loved it, it's a little bit of a drive for us but a wonderful day out for sure! Sounds like we'll have to go again to do the boat trip and also visit Medmerry! 😀

Great video. I do love Pulborough, went there last winter and was lucky enough to see 3 White-tailed eagles, which decided to have a bit of a tussle, about a mile away over the scrape (I was at the centre) but they are so big I still got some ok footage! This video has reminded me I need to get back there

Some great shots and clips - I'm still waiting to photograph my first bullfinch, I've heard a couple in my local woods, along with an even more elusive lesser spotted woodpecker, but not seen one to photograph. I really must visit more RSPB reserves and Pulborough Brooks is only 90 minutes away - your video has just persuaded me!

Wonderful variety of bird life! The Lapwing (aka Peewit and Green Plover) is one of my absolutely favourite birds and sadly not around in such great numbers these days. Their flight patterns are spectacular, especially when half folding a wing and tumbling earthwards, and their distinct calls which gave rise to the Peewit name. I used to spend a lot of time watching them over the fields of Shugborough Estate in Staffordshire near where I lived. They and Terns mesmerise me when they're airborne.

We love a Lapwing too Paul! Watching them do their displays is incredible. Completely agree on Terns too, we don't see enough of them so we'll have to go and find more! 😀

Another beautiful video! Can I ask what tripod video head you are using. Want to get one for my second tripod and your videos always look great.
@AWilderLife
@AWilderLife 5 месяцев назад
Thank you so much Sean! My regular go-to tripod head I've used in nearly all our videos is the Manfrotto XPRO Fluid Head, I believe the model number is MHXPRO-2W but I've got a feeling they've got a newer one as I've had this one for about 6 years now! It might be worth checking because mine doesn't accept Arca-Swiss, it's got a special quick release plate that comes with it so if you've got Arca-Swiss plates or lens feet it might be worth looking at the newer one. I'm actually using a spare Neewer one in this video because I left my tripod at my parents whilst I was visiting them 😅

8:23 I am sure that everyone watching this video knows that daffodils are of little or no benefit to pollinators, they look okay though. Are they of benefit in some other way? I am only a beginner and I know little or nothing about biodiversity etc.
@AWilderLife
@AWilderLife 5 месяцев назад
You're absolutely right on the daffodils, they're not the best for wildlife, bees will only really use them if there's nothing else around so there are other spring bulbs that are a lot more beneficial such as Winter Aconite, Snowdrops, and then a bit later things like Snake’s Head Fritillary, Bluebells (the native ones, not the Spanish Bluebell) and Wild Garlic. That being said, we still love to see the daffodils around as they're nice to enjoy looking at and a sign that spring is on the way! 😀
