Lehle P-Split and a matching amp head, so each cab can be dialled to its happiest place. I am currently doing up three 2x12 boxes with different speaker types but with matching amp heads in a dry-dry-wet rig to simplify and go portable. As if I had somewhere to go.
Holy shit I turned this on and loved the sound. Johan, your drumming is pretty good!! Guitar playing is awesome as usual but your drumming has improved, the fills are fun.
Johan I can feel lots of love as always! Keep up the damn fine work brother as it makes a lot of people very happy 😎 hopefully we can have a beer together one day and you can fuel my gear addiction to the next level ☺
I personally thought that the 1982 sounded a smidgen sweeter. Now the real question is why. Different plywood densities perhaps and would all 1982 cabs have the same exaact resonant frequencies. Prehaps there is a 1960 cab that sounds sweeter. I'll be up all night thinking on this one. Cheers Johan.
I love the 82b cabs. The mid range honk is perfect, so is the bass and high end clarity. Of course any 60 or 82 cab with original Greenbacks is a great piece of gear, I would love to own either again. I just keep coming back to the original Marshall, the Tweed Bassman.
Both sound great ofcourse, I like the complexity and openness of the H greenbacks here, thanks for the back to back comparison in the end. I'd like to hear them with a little more gain, too. But I just love your drummimg today, Johan! Btw very badass with that evil expression and shaking camera ;-)
nice job on the comparison, the 1982B seems to have more of a wider range especially hi mids and treble that the 1960B doesn't have, I never owned a the 1982 so I'm glad to hear the demo. I only have 70s 1960A&B and 80s 1936 cabs. Thanks Johan, stay safe
Both sound awesome, so it is hard to choose..Im running a mix with 2 cabs, one 1973 with g12m25 75hz and a 1971 with g12h30 75hz. With my Folkesson 1959HW, its tonal heaven😊 Great Criss style drumming Johan!
You can tell why the Young's liked the 1960B and why Page liked the 1982B. The 1960 has that nice punchy-ness to it and the 1982 has a nice bright open top and mid range. Personally I'd be using the 1960 but the 1982 is still very good!
Reading the comments I'm quite surprised that so many hear more mids in the 1982 cab. Actually the g12h has more highs and lows resulting a little more scooped compared to g12m and that's exactly what I ear in this clip. The emphasis on the high freq brings out some high-mids too and probably that's what they refer to. Cheers Johan!
I hear some Neil Peart roto toms! I like the 1982s. Nice tone on both, though I have a1960 already.... I think we like tones we don’t quite have of our own as we do not have that particular piece of gear
so close 60 just a touch closer to 58-59 rich tone tubes and magnets 82 is just cleaner but lacks the pizaz older is always better is the conclusion and staking diff amps as Jimi taught us all as did SRV magical is always a combo ex- dumble 2 third prod with fender 59bassman with 65 tweed with train wreck and all power boosted 90% like what Eddie VH did that changed the world to the one we know!!! AMAZING show as usual we all love you and what you do keep doing it!! thanks Johan
Fantastic. Seriously how do you manage to capture the sounds so well. Watched with headphones. The 1960 for me. Led zepp feel and so much more satisfying than the 1982.
DIGGING the groove Hr. Segeborn! Good sound from either, but I thought 1960 sounded a bit more refined. Throw a bass line in there and you GOT a rockin' song! \m/
Great sound man! Wow. This would be a great sound for an album. I’m shocked at how good the drums sound too. It’s not easy to record drums. Great amp tone, and both cabs sound great to me.
Superb video and excellent playing sir!! My vote is for the 1982B.. Felt to me like that cabinet was slightly more alive than the 1960B.. Thanks for another great vid !! 😈🎸
First of all Johan that' s a Great Song, reminiscent of the Who! About the cabs, they sound slightly different but they complement each other, I couldn' t choose One over another, both sound " iconic", so blending Them in a mix Is the best choice, cheers!
I prefer the big magnet here. Typical differences, bigger botom and more highs. In this particular test the 30 version doesn't lack on mids against the 25 version, it has everything but better. With more presence and more in your face. I also have a modern 1960AHW with G12H-30 Heritage reissues and I love it. Greetings.
Fantastic as usual. The 1982 was a bit better to my ears. Where was Johan Brother #3 on the Ripper bass? Have a great weekend. God bless and rock on 🎸😎👍
jcm800 300 watt 1960b. Most under-rated Marshall cabinet? It makes whatever amp I play through it sing. Jcm 900, JMP 50 watt combo, JMP superlead 100 watt and a JVM 205c. All different era's but all sound good thru it. The 900 sounds like a squealing pig thru other cabs. I have several other cabs as well, 25 watt GB's 4x12, recent Vintage Heritage mess etc
Great drum playing, Johan! Difficult to decide which cab sounds better. '82B is more articulate and "60B is creamier. Pick one based on how one feels at the moment!
1960 in my ears is more forgiving and sits back. That can be cool. 1982 is the 1960 on acid... Brighter colors in another dimension. It makes the guitar and tone the feature which is awesome but I can see myself leaning towards the 1960b in a studio situation. I also had a 64 bassman running through a later 1960b with 55hz grnbcks and it did the thing so my opinion is somewhat biased.
🤓I'VE OWNED & TESTED BOTH👍H3O's...........HANDS DOWN........25's...suck !!!!!!!....but nothing sucks more than vintage 30's !!!!!!!!!...........the very best are the 75's❤
They both sound great to me!!! I think the 1982B sounds a little more "alive". Not necessarily fuller but more out front in the mix. At least for that particular style of music.
Nice comparison, Johan. Do you know if there are any differences in construction between the two cabs - materials, dimensions, the post between back and baffle, etc.? And you can add another 'win' to the drumming column, great job 👍
Do you use an attenuator for the volume or to preserve the speakers? Do you think there is a high risk in blowing vintage 25 watt greenbacks with a vintage 100 watt head?
Hi! I use attenuator when I only use one cab. I have never blown a speaker when I use two cabs with a 100 watter. But sometimes I use one cab on full volume for recording and then I sometimes blow speakers. A 100W puts out 185W on full volume. 100W is the ‘clean’ power. Cheers
Johan Segeborn thank you for the info! I’m guessing when they recorded with 4x12 in the old days before attenuators, they just blew speakers on occasion?
Wait......from the big beautiful Ludwig kit to a....Pearl with concert toms?!?!? Was it just that you wanted a more defined kind of sound for those quick tom fills?
hey Johan, can you customize a guitar by mixing 1x10 and 1x15 oversized horizontal cab into a vertical cab? nice jamming by the way! the 1982 cab sounds crunchy
Thanks! Absolutely, Simon played an Impact cab with 12,15 and horns earlier here on the channel that sounded killer. We’ve played Gibson combos with speakers on several sides as well. Cheers
Hi, Johan! I am angry about YT - since the previous video it's a second time when I have no message about your streaming.:-( I like to be "in" with my dudes, here I have a lot of good people (but not that one, who puts you the dis. I am strongly disagree - 1000 likes, and 1960!!! And no remorse!!! You are doing well with the drums. Training hard?:-) Have a nice weekend! See you! S.Y. Zigfrid
Hi, guys! Maybe somebody knows if there are any applications for REDMI 8 Android to record a multi channel tracking? 2-4 channels and maybe some effects with an equalizer. With minimal user's friendly system? Who knows, please, help me to find it! GREATEST THANKS!!!! Z.
Hello. To my ears, the 1982 has a touch more midrange, while the 1960 has a little more sustain. You should connect up both cabs and get the best of both!
hi johan! great stuff as always. did you try a 2061x 20 head with the modern celestion cramback m65? besides that i think we should all unite the anticasiopea movement(aka movementfear!) since the scene is full of pale green led screens and people think that shit is real. i remember back at 1994 or so trying the zoom 9002 thinking so many options and it sounds so sweet i can do everything i want ,right! but maybe i need to take a course somewhere about proggrraammminnnggggg.....you can pack that shit in a new package with a felix logo charge 8000$ and all the fancy office warriors will dig that shit and laugh at their office neighbor: "look at you with that fancy ugly boutiqe pcb excuse for vintage tweed/black/brown/notreally/british/continent selection enabled 20w amp,i can do all that with this little thing! and next thing you know the casiopeas are multipling and take over the scene easily, well that shit won't last too long ,if someone wants some tone he better stay away from pcb's and screens.guitar amps are a simple thing .
