Thanks for the question. Without knowing all of your settings, you could possibly dial down the gain a little bit on the Bad Monkey or the Guv'nor. These two pedals stacked together should produce enough sustain, even with the gain pulled down. Also.....you might consider dialing in more mids for your solo tone.
Good question. I haven't tried that combination, but I might lean towards the TS-808 since it's gain structure is less. So the TS-808 could add a little extra "edge" to the Pro CO RAT without making it sound too muddy. I'd keep the gain knob down on the TS-808 for sure.
It can be, but you'll probably need to run it into the overdrive channel on an amp to get a little more distortion. Or....you could also "stack" it with another pedal for more distortion, like a Tube Screamer, for example. The GV-2 by itself has good overdrive, but likely not enough for modern metal.
@Laura94tc Gotcha. I haven't ever tried this pedal on a solid state amp, but my guess is it probably won't sound any worse than your existing distortion. Plus, the pedal may help you switch from clean to distortion faster.
Hmmm. I've looked in the Mustang V quite a bit and it actually has a pretty decent tone. It might not sound too bad.....although I would bet that the Guv'nor Plus would still sound better in front of a tube amp, even a smaller wattage one. Might be a good idea for a demo down the road. Thanks man!
Hi Alex. I guess it depends on what you are trying to do. What kind of music/tone are you shooting for? The GV-2 will definitely add distortion to your overall signal if you are going for a heavier/more overdriven sound.
I have owned one of these pedals for about 7 years, and they are fucking awesome... I can get a great sound even with my Crate GX-15 practice amp --- through my 1991 Marshall Jcm 900 50 watt 2x12 combo, it will scream... These can be found at very reasonable prices for such a great, well built pedal...
@Laura94tc Good question. I'm not really sure. I would think this pedal would sound much warmer in front of tube amp, generally speaking, but it's hard to say. What solid state amp are we talking about? Do you like the existing tone?
I´m using Guv'nor , with Bad Monkey, to sound heavier. Sounds great! But lead guitar sound a little worst. Can you give some advise, to make it soft, with sustain
@AskAGuitarPro My amp is an Orange 20LDX and the clean sound really is good (not perfect though, but sounds pretty nice) and its distortion is good too but I want the pedal to change between clean and distortion faster.
Hi Marlon. I'm not sure as I've never played through the JH. However, it looks like the JH is actually a hybrid between overdrive and distortion. The Guv'nor is primarily overdrive. So.....my guess is the JH has a little more "gain/distortion" on tap than the Guv'nor.
Just a tip for you guys. This pedal is a hybrid type sound. Not quiet a distortion..not quite a overdrive pedal. Somewhere in the damn middle which is why so many people are on the fence about it. Plus it gets very muddy if you are not careful with the deep knob and the gain. I do use one on my board but strictly as a heavy overdrive only. The gain never goes past 12 o'clock and I use a comp to push it with both bass knobs around 10, mid at 1 and treble at 3. I run my tube combo fairly bright and clean so you will have to use your tone knob a bit depending on how much vol knob you use on your axe. This is where is shines for me especially with a wah pedal... Think White Room by Cream :) It's a great pedal for the the raw 70's drive sound. If you want a great all around distortion pedal may I recommend the EHX Metal Muff. Put the drive at 10 o'clock and just work your volume knob and you will be set for the big 80's hair band shit. Turn up the gain a bit, drop the mids and kick on the boost at about 7/8 o'clock for the nu metal type sound. That's my two cents worth.. you all can keep the change. Rock on....
You could try using more volume in the amp itself to get the sustain. I know what you mean with respect to the buzzing at high gain. It's always a balance between too much gain & not enough when it comes to producing sustain. You could consider using a compression pedal which can add sustain without introducing distortion. The only problem with compressors is the noise.......a noise gate helps in these situations.
Good question. Definitely can do hard rock. I think you could pull of the Sweet Child of Mine solo. Having a Les Paul would probably help. A black top hat for the look too!
Thanks for stopping Danilo. I checked out your demo and the Jackhammer sounds very thick. Nice use of the pinch harmonics as well, my friend. See you on the next one!
Man, I wish mine sounded like this. Must be because of my solid-state princeton 650 amp. The breakup in my pedal sounds kinda....splatty...to me... =[ Dm
The last clip called "chums lives" . If put more gain to get more sustain Theres always that annoying treble, like a "bee" sound. This pedal is great for rhythm, for solos I dont think so. Any suggestion?
