Hey guy's, just a quick review of a couple of the best Marshall/distortion pedals out there. Please ignore my sloppy guitar playing, try and see through that and into the tones of these pedals lol. Very nice pedals indeed. Best audio quality I could create. Please comment and subscribe :)

Settings:
Jackhammer =
Volume: 9 o clock
Gain: 12 o clock (or whatever you want)
Bass: 9 o clock
Treble: 3 o clock
Contour: OFF
Freq: 12 o clock
Guv'nor settings:
Gain: 3 o clock (or whatever you want)
Deep: 9 o clock
Bass: 12 o clock
Mid: 2 o clock
Treble: 1 o clock
Volume: 11 o clock.

both pedals rock! i don't know why people look for "marshall in a box" and ignore these great pedals - furthermore Jackhammer's Distortion mode is actually old Shredmaster - believe me i own both!!

Iwasn't fond of the response from the Distortion setting on the JH1. I find it works best on O/D if you want high end response. The Distortion setting reminded me too much of the Big Muff

The Jackhammer and the BB-2 (also from this range) absolutely rock with my Laney Cub12r (Vintage 30) and Fender Bassbreaker 15 (V-Type) combos. Underrated pedals. For the Guv sound, I like the Keeley Stahlhammer. It's a tweaked Guv/RAT hybrid thing. Kicks ass. Sounding great, man!!

i've a guv'nor, and is in my opinion, a good distorsion pedal, with him i can play ac/dc with no one problem, sounds warm, and clasic distorsion of the marshall tube amp...

Do yourself a favor and crank the treble/lower the resonance on the Guv'nor. The sweet spot on the gain dial is about 3 o'clock.

I have both and I am really satisfied with what can be achieved by using them simultaneously, the jackhammer as a clean overdrive and the guv-nor for the solos and rhythms, they give the size so that they go quite well both, I seem to make one comparison between both would not be indicated I think they were designed to bring different tones and so take advantage of the maximum to each one of them, 100% recommended!

Your playing rocks dude. You need a little bit of "sloppiness" in your playing , it adds grit. Its what separates 80's rock - perfect form, some might say too clean - from a more dirty, grungie 90's style. Im a grunge child, thank god - I can pass sloppy playing off as intentional, lol! You know, i joke, but it really is intentional. It adds character and depth to an otherwise clinical sound. So rock on brother! PS. I didn't think you were especially sloppy anyway.

i just want to inform people that these are the best low priced pedals that you can find. In Sweden you can buy them for 60 dollars and they sound amazing, really good if you want to combine blues with sleaze!

man the Guv sounds like older Bon Scott era Angus blues grit tone, the Jackhammer sounds like a more aggressive "Punch to the gut" Bawlsy tone of the newer AC/DC especially how it thickens the pinch harmonics in some of the runs you're doing Ive been using a Wampler Plextortion to boost a Fender Hotrod deville to acheive the same tones But those seem like a good way to nail it for alot less money than the wampler, really Nice transparent tube-ish OD pedals on a Trans amp and an awesome review.

Guv’nor sounds too muffled for my liking, the Jackhammer has that Marshally grind.

I got a jackhammer and from what I can tell the Guv' has a slightly thicker sound. Sounds nice though. Personally my fav pedal is the big muff. Jh-1 is more of a heavy metal sound. Not my cup of tea.

Excellent demo. I have a Guv'nor & was thinking of getting a JH 1 also. Like you I really love the 'classic' Marshall tones of the Guv'nor but for certain things it lacks the 'power distortion' of the JH1. Aside from being great value even new, you can pick these pedals up second-hand for about £20, & you can't go wrong for that type of money. I also have the Regenerator & Echohead which are really versatile pedals too!

WOW IM CONVINCED, I SHALL ORDER A JACKHAMMER RIGHT NOW, I HAVE A TUBE AMP SO IMAGINE HOW MUCH BETTER IT'S GONA SOUND, IF I'M GONNA GET A GUV'NOR IT'S GONA GONNA BE AN ORIGINAL AS THEY SOUND A LOT BETTER BUT THIS ONE STILL SOUNDS GOOD, NICE PLAYING

Yea kinda, I think it just comes down to personal preference in the end. Pick one that sounds good to your ear and you will be golden :) You can't really go far wrong with these pedals anyway so go for it. Thanks for the comment!

@xrandolphx Hey thank's :D I did spend a lot of time micing it up properly, glad to know it paid off :) I switch from OD to DIST between 1:55 and 2:33 OD sounds better IMO. Go for it man, just keep the gain down low and wack the volume up to squeeze the tubes in the amp and get some nice natural tube distortion. Vox is somewhat of an acquired taste, it does Brian May well, that's it really. Some good cleans though to be fair. Thank's for the comment!! \m/

Great review dude.. decent sound and video quality too wich is NOT the norm on RU-vid. I have the jackhammer and was thinking of getting another for overdrive but having heard this i may be looking for a Guvnor. You don't need to apologise for your playing BTW.

I have a JH1 that I did some mods to..The distortion side of the JH1 is horrible,dark and too mid scooped...I prefer the lower mids and overall sound of the JH1 over the Guvnor...Great video.

@Laura94tc With the clean channel on the amp it should sound fine as the pedal is doing all the work. Set all the clean EQ's on the amp to the sound you like in clean, then set the distortion sound you like on the pedal.

Hey man great vid :) im looking at getting either of these pedals. Which one do u think is better for acdc/ thin lizzy/guns n roses/ bon jovi kind of music? I dont really like metal sounding stuff more classic rock. Thanks!

Thank's dude, much appreciated!! I would have thought so yes. You could keep the gain low and boost the levels into the amp with the pedal. Give it a try, should work out fine :)

Worth the extra money, boss distortions are a bit digital and fuzzy. Marshall pedals are a lot more natural sounding IMO.

good review man! i loved how you were so clear on your recording setup. i would like to know what mode the jackhammer was in: overdrive or distortion?? i'm considering putting the jackhammer through a '76 london city tube head. right now i have an overpriced vox bulldog distortion but it really sucks.

As we'r a buget players ( don't play good as Y ) I think we can't feel what those pedals can do in at reall combination of good tube amp and cabinets ! I borow boath pedals from my Town store end try , compare , trow Laney hybrid amp - 60 w combo , but the result wasn't as goal ! Lot of massive dist. crushing sond ( hard to express my self - sure that Y know , what I mean ) , cant get that sweet , rich distordion as in Garry's '' Still gotta Blues '' from Guv'nor , no way !

What would happen if I ran 2 Guvnor's at the SAME TIME?.. Would it be the classic tone, but then as powerful as the Jh-1?????

just stick a tube screamer in front of it - its supposed to be driven by two volumes, one preamp and one post - mimics the amps - they used to get nowhere until they were at midway, then the magic happens - you control the amount of drive using the volume on the guitar

I have a question mate, If I would like to use this pedal for lead parts, would it be loud enough, meaning, would it give me enough boost? Note that I would previously play with lots of gain and in high volume on my amp.

Yes it will. Vary in volume levels and boost the high mids.

jackhammer, if you are going to play lead guitar.. but if you just wanna play fast chords, palm mute and octaves.. guv'nor is better!

you tested this on a solid state, no can do!!!,,,,,,,,,,,,, i have your amp, built in TX Instr , chips sound better to ITS SELF , i have both these pedals and many tube amps , that these solid state's And Can Not Hear the diff !!!! jack hammer is the better ( has more gain )is close sound to the gov. , the controls are temperamental on these two, people hate them, but they sound good.... i allso have the org shreadmaster $400 today (has more of a plexi sound) its better then the other two.....2015 get a metal muff ultra high gain, in the studio use a proco rat 2..... my fav amp 6101 EL34 celestion 200watt , 2" thick rubber on the speaker magnet mic guard.

The Guv'nor is more Tubescreamer-ish huh? I think the Jackhammer has a wider range of sound.. I'm thinking of getting one. Any suggestions on either two of these?

I m interested in learning what effects these have, in general with the amp. I do realize that it states distortion pedals. But, In the case of a really harsh marshall amp will these render them better representative of the GREAT Marshall classic tones.

Hi guys! Need an advise form those who really know these pedals. I play bass guitar so I now when I listen a bit to metallica and motorhead I think I want to give my bass a bit of a distorted sound, so I am looking for a good pedal, FOR BASS. There is a good JH-1 for sale on classified and I do not know, should I buy it or not, will it work properly for my ESP Ltd B-50 4 stringer?

I don't own tube amp at the moment and even a pedal, but i'm looking for that kind of stuff, so thanks for reply, that will help me. (forget my english, I know it's bad :p)
