Here's a a Vid of my modded Marshall JVM410H. Was curious how close to the Brown Sound I could get. I think I came fairly close. Let me know what you think.
That's the best sounding jvm I've ever heard. Fantastic playing too. I have the js version and am very happy with the sound. Especially the vh sounds lol
I've been jamming my Splawn qr lately, I got it set up low gain. and it's harder to play but I've became a better player that way. your videos are awesome, keep them coming!
Killer Harmonics !!! Love your sound man !!! I had a Satriani Signature for a while but even though it's a JVM 410HJS it's very different in some ways. My skill level is not deserving of expensive gear like these amps but playing through these beasts is a rush. Keep Rocking !!!
Great sounding 4H.!!!..just got mine back from the tech..got rid of those darn fuse holders..It sounds incredible...Anyway, you got some great tone going on & even better playing..thanks man..
I think you got closest to that 1980-1981 sound. I'll forgive the incorrect playing of Ain't Talkin Bout Love hahaha. That early AC/DC tone @ 8:40 is pretty sick, gonna have to try it out with mine. Nice!
Hi Shawn, blown away by this video. Sound and playing are stellar. I am think of getting one of these heads and would like your help? I appreciate that speakers, guitars, fingers e.t.c. all contribute towards the sound but have the mods you made had a significant impact on tone? Did it sound as good as this before the mods and did you previously back the gain off and (presumably) gain the channel volume? Any help much appreciated. Thanks.
alastair wilson thanks. First the JVM is awesome right out of the box. Very versatile amp. As far as mods yes they make a difference. I always suggest to everyone start with a chock install that really quietens the amp down as far as high gain hiss etc. then try a mod at a time till you’re satisfied with it.
@@DSTaylor69 , many thanks for coming back to me. You know us guitarists always after the holy grail of tone but man yours is absolutely epic. Stay safe :-)
I know this is an older post, but I feel the same way. I’m looking to buy one of these amps based off of feedback from a friend who owns one, but your amp is absolutely over the top! Covers all the great Marshall tones, which is exactly what I am looking for. If you would please share more information regarding the mods and who did them, I would be grateful. Thanks, and rock on!🤘🏻
You can get a great van halen like lead tone with OD2 red with the gain around 2 or 3, crank the midrange to about 8 or 9 and a decent amount of reverb
Great guitar tone, but still a little too gainy for the AC/DC. The VH sounded great, though! I love the Marshall plexi-style amps. Some of my favorite tones.
Would it be possible for you to include your exact setup - guitar, string brand and size, pick size, pickups, speakers in the cab, the mods, and exact effects layout? You have the guitar sound I have been looking for since I started. Absolutely outstanding!
Charley Cain most of my jvm vids tell the mods. I use daddario .010’s. Picks Dunlop tortex yellow sharps or whatever happens to be laying around. Low action. Mods are as follows. Plexi mod, 3h choke, Mercury magnetics output transformer, negative feedback mod. Effects a tc electronics g major. With delay on a slap back somewhere around 200ms. Chorus. No pedals. Cab has 2 vintage 30’s and 2 G12t 75’s. Pickups Gibson 500t & 496r. The most important thing my hands. Tone is in the fingers. You can go to the Marshall JVM forum and read about the mods. Hope that helps.
@@DSTaylor69 Thank you for your prompt response. I have been playing a JCM 900 for a long time with an American Strat. I just don't get that great sustain and tight response. Thanks again!
Charley Cain before you go thinking of modding up s jvm go play one. The other guitar player in my band has one unmodded and loves it. Jvm is a gain monster. Reminds me of running my old jubilee with a tube screamer. Thing to remember jvm is the history of Marshall in one box.
great sound and even better playing, would love to do these mods to my jvm any chance you have the details of these mods? since the jvm site has gone down i cant find anywhere with the details of the mods... cheers!
Shawn Taylor Thanks!!I used to have a Jubilee myself...and a 30th anniversary Marshall....now I have a 5150III.....I like it a lot,but I really miss the Marshall sound....The JVM sounds like it would cover all the Marshall bases...Of course your playing is phenomenal, which makes the amp sound great too.....do you find noise to be an issue??I keep reading reviews from people bitching saying the JVM’s are too noisy....I am assuming if you are sensible with the gain knobs, that problem could be alleviated??
I'm seeing those jvh 410 as lot now.., I'm partial to Marshall 50 watt heads rare and you find one they want a lot on eBay. Oh an I'm not familiar with you said you bought guitars on Reverb, what's Reverb ??
Regards, I love this sound. I would greatly appreciate you to answer me what mods you have done in your jvm 410h. And if in addition to the amplifier you are using a pedal. thank you very much. Sorry for using the google translate.
Hey Shawn, great video. What channel were you playing on? I'd like to try to set my JVM like yours. Any chance you can post your knob settings? Thanks man!!
Shawn Taylor wish me and you could jam got the same musical taste I play drums talk in about love all van Halen I know I play with feeling not a dam sheet of music can you play get it on by kingdom come
I did the same modification and i use TC eletronic flashback delay X4. It was the only delay good , but i needed open back delay and change the switch.
Hey Shawn, great clip. I purchased my JVM about a year ago and honestly, i put a side my EVH Stealth ever since. What tubes (power and preamp) are you using... are they still stock?
Jerry Robitaille It's kind of like if you took the mid honk of the classic VH sound and added a bit of the tighter bottom end and saturation from his newer tones. I'd honestly attribute some of the scratchiness and noisy artifacts with mic placement or maybe some overload or clipping.
The "Brown sound" was really Eddie using a variac to lower the input voltage to his amps causing the tubes to distort earlier and in a different sounding way. The name comes from "brown out" when the voltage supplied to your house drops for example.
Swawn I just bought a jvm 410 and tried 2 times with marshall 1922 cab, overall i liked it jvm but I felt a lack of bass , except on clean channel. for me to be satisfied I put almost all the bass knob on max, almost 0 presence and ressonance on max, is this normal? kkk
Shawn, Check out the Friedman BE-100, BE-50 Deluxe, and the Metropolous Metroplex. I think you would like any of the 3 better than that JVM. Dave Friedman is a genius when it comes to Modded Marshalls. George Metropolous is a genius when it comes to Marshall Plexi Amps. If you take the time to check out those 3 amps....I assure You, That You Won't Regret It. All three are in the $3500-4000 range. Not cheap at all, but they are handbuilt, handwired, custom transformers, custom every thing, with Lifetime Warranties. Once a person owns one of those three, they rarely look at other amps, or want to purchase another amp again. Big Lifetime, Amazing Quality Investments. Also, you might wanna check out 4×12 speaker cabinets with the speaker configuration of 2 greenbacks on top, and 2 vintage 30's on the bottom. Amazing tones. Bogner sells a cabinet like that, and Friedman has quite a few cabinet with that same setup. Have a good one. Love your playing! 😎😎
Shawn Taylor I like your heavy sound, it's just a bit over the top for Halen and ACDC type of stuff. I have rediscovered the clarity of a heavier edgy sound from the amp and then turn down the guitar pickup volume to mellow the input signal to the amp and then you can get the intro to Drop Dead Legs nice and chimey then wack the volume up on the guitar some for the attack riff. Try it out, the dynamics are wicked.
Shawn Taylor I sometimes set the amp for stun and then put guitar volume at like 3 or 4. Eddie liked his amp to do all the work and use weaker pickup volume and you hear the strings more.
