Great demo. Not because of the amp. This review is organized and recorded EXACTLY like I'd like ANY demo created. It walks through each control, has live audio as each control is being adjusted so the viewer can see how "finicky" or flexible each control is. Gives a clear close-up of the controls and all back-panel jacks, etc. Everything one needs to see and hear with zero hype and fluff. WELL DONE.
After listening to most of the Origin videos (several times) over the course of the last year or so, this video ranks at the VERY top. That Tele is 6 strings of pure bliss !
Best demo ever! I particularly like that not only did you dial in a plethora of tones, but you did so with a variety of guitars and pickup types; THIS really showcases what the origin is capable of. Fantastic job. I also like that your focus is on the amp, rather than your ability to noodle all over the neck. I'm very impressed with your professional approach to properly demo gear! Subbed!
At last a simple and informative demo. No need to talk or to play fancy heavy licks. Just the sound and the controls with all the features tested. Great demo Toby. Thx.
I just got origin 20 Head and love it. It really starts to come alive with master and gain at 8 oclock. also has great cleans. I've got a PS 1 coming to attenuate this monster though because I have neighbors and even on .5 watt setting , it screams! I run mine in my '87 Marshall Jubilee 4x12 cab...sounds so good.
really appreciate you showing off the clean tones with some pretty arpeggiated stuff. I like blues and old school rock but it’s nice to hear something different.
I’m infatuated with this amp. Dude, your playing sounds particularly good in this demo. Nice work as always, but you gave it something a little extra this go round.
I have both the 50 watt and 20 watt combos, they are brilliant amps. The 50 watt had a crap speaker, once that was replaced and a new sett of JJs installed, it was Plexi heaven..
Just bought this Amp Head , Wanted a Fender or Marshall tube amp with 20 or 25 watt range for my upcoming YT vids , not sorry that I picked this Head . It's amazing. Great Review , you sold me on this Marshall , thanks for posting it. now a subscriber to you.
For the last 3 weeks( November- December 2021) I been going through countless of Marshall Origin 20 watts videos on RU-vid and no one does a proper demo, its all "I think this is and that and more of that and that". well you get the point... Since no local store carry them in their store. I have to buy it first without trying it first, and this is by FAR the most awesome demo I have seen , demo should be done this way. Because of this video I can finally make my decision of what I need to buy. Thank you Toby's Guitar Gear Demos for this! God Bless you and your stuff and families!
just bought mine ,,terrific amp head and had to come back to this vid to check the setting used,,,great demo bro ,,,thanks for posting,,cheers from australia
Man, always enjoy your gear demos. These are proper fun amps. Easy to misunderstand and dislike unless you're approaching them with a 'vintage' mindset. They are also one of those amps that sits in a band mix at stage volume far better than they sound in your bedroom. Reminds me a lot of Fender amps in that respect. The crunch is great but strongly recommend people get a NOS ECC83 or two. The 20 watt sags a lot more than the 50 and consequently sounds more plexi when dimed imho. The 50 has the head room for louder cleans..
this is a great amp, it's a take on the classic 1965 Marshall. that's why it's called Origin, so if your looking at this for metal, it'll do just fine, but it's best suited for hard rock like AC/DC. the Marshall DSL5 combo or DSL20 would be a better option for Metal. you can't go wrong either way, i think the crunch channel sounds fine on this, but the gain channel on the Marshall DSL series does sound better for Metal. the Marshall Origin series are for those people looking for that Classic sound, that's why i bought it. the DSL can do classic rock as well, but the DSL series is based on the JCM800, so if you want an amp that can do it all, the DSL20 is your best bet. i don't need all that, and don't worry they both take pedals just fine.
Great demo! Mine arrives tomorrow, and I was starting to get nervous. Most demos sound fizzy and scratchy. And a LOT of yapping! Love your approach: All rock. No talk! Now I'm confident I'll love the Marshall Origin 20H, too. Bought the matching slant cab, also. Wifey's gonna kill me! Haha! Thnx again!
Fantastic tone and excellent presentation (effect of controls, on-screen control settings, and use of effects loop). I especially appreciate how you've made a point of showing the clean sounds in this amp. Most tube amp reviews only focus on overdriven tones. Great work ! 👍👌
Got the 50C about six months ago.. great big cleans and takes well every (I say EVERY!) pedal, never seen any other amp makin’ roar my muff or getting on the edge with a TS9 like that. Same with MXR Dist+, even an old SD-1 sounds good! A lot of room, but don’t expect bedroom volumes, even at the lowest watt setting (with the 50C it goes 50>10>5). At home unfortunately I cannot crank it up.. but I wanted a combo, the 20C got a 10” speaker and the price was very close to the 50C.. the controls are veeeeery responsive, you need to get confident with this baby.. BTW, best demo video i’ve seen. Great, clear and smart work!!!
Really helpful. Thanks for showing the front panel settings for each different sound. I'm thinking of putting a Nu-X Cerberus in front of this amp because my DSL20 has too much dirt, even on the Classic Gain channel. This amp seems capable of a cleaner, more transparent tone for pedals.
Wow.... finally someone shows off all the tine options in a brief amount of time. It does clean, it does crunch, and it can do metal (classic not death or anything). Thanks for a great demo.
Excellent representation of this amp Wanting a Friedman but this is a great low cost alternative 34s instead of 84s tube wise I heard as well Great demo
I’m really tempted by these. I saw one user who put kt66 output tubes in his and he said it really got close to a jtm45 he had with them. The jtm45 is one of my favorite amps but I want a little lower power amp.
Best review : you don't use some expensives guitars, is a Gibson tribute? I have one and I think I'll buy this head, maybe a good wedding I think, thank's !
Hi i ve one of these monsters. The sound is great to play on a stadium. Forget to play with Zeppelin distortion at your room . You need an extra distortion pedal to play with distortion in a reasonable sound. However is a great option. I like Marshall sound and this os great. Nice review
Even with the power reduction? 20 watts is still crqzy loud, yes, but 3 and .3? Do you not use that feature, maybe it doesn't sound as good attenuated that way
Great video tones and playing. I did have the combo version of this amp but sold it due to difficult tube access. I've decided to replace it with this head. I have a cabinet with a Celestion Cremeback so I'm ready.👍🎸
These are great amps just got one. The Tolex and knobs are mid grade but for the price the sound makes up for all of it. I’m not buying a beauty piece 😂 killer demo!!
