Hey! Just want to send a quick appreciation post for all these videos! They have been keeping me sane and entertained during the COVID induced gaming/design lulls over the past year or so. Keep up the good work! 😀
Oh man!! Thanks so, so much for those extremely kind words, Hunter!!! 🤩🙌 That means a lot and is extremely inspiring! Also, great to read you post in the guild about partnership games. I'd love to help playtest anything you're cooking up! Thanks again for being so nice!!😁
@@ClaudeAndTaylor Good to know! I have one progressing that's super quick and pretty wacky, haha. I'll share with you as soon as I'm convinced it's not entirely broken. 😅
Cool video! Wouldn't mind seeing a video comparison of Wizard Extreme to Zing!, Die Sieben Siegel, or Sluff Off. That might possibly be the most re-printed trick-taking game out there.
I was considering Marshmellow Test, but now hearing how Voodoo Prince works, I must have it!! Too bad it looks unavailable on BGG or anywhere else...BTW, your video title says 'Voodoo Price'
Hey Shawn, yeah I think Voodoo edges out Marshmellow for me, but it's sooo tough to track down ha! And OH NOOOO, thanks SOOO much for catching that! How embarrassing haha! 😅🫣
Really enjoy your channel, though I think I like the idea of trick taking games more than actually playing them. I just can't get past the card counting aspect and wish there were more games where this information was tracked in game, which is one reason why I will look into the new "Cat in the Box" game I wanted to mention that you also missed a pretty significant difference in VP and MT in scoring, I guess that ups the tension some? In Voodoo Prince, the last player to go out still scores the number of tricks they already won. In Marshmallow Test, the last player to go out gets ZERO points regardless of how many tricks they won
Thanks Dr. Manhattan! 😁🙌 I think you may like games like American Bookshop where the cards stay face up. And yeah that does help mitigate the tough loss for sure!
After watching this (late to the party), I tried to find a copy of Voodoo Prince, to find that it's hard to find... so I tried to find a copy of Marshmallow Test. The US English version is out of print, so I was going to try and get the French version... to find it was also out of print too *sigh*. Luckily, there was a third option from Kanga Games out in Taiwan. And after speaking with them over email, was able to grab an English copy(-ies ((x3)) and they were able to send it just as covid restrictions were ending over there. Along with other games you've highlighted: Cat in the Box, 9 Lives, Ghosts of Christmas, Shamans - that I've purchased recently, I think it fits as a starter before the change ups in the other games, for newcomers in this genre. I've also, late backed (this weekend) a copy of 535 and looking forward to the English version of Inside Job and your own game Zip Zap Zop. So thank you again for thoughts and insights to this beautiful nook of this hobby :)
Oh woah, what a wild journey, Thomas!! Thanks so much for fostering such love for the genre and I hope the games land well!! It's awesome to hear the genre growing so much and it's thanks to rad people like you!! Cheers!!
what do you think of marshmallow test with the following changes: 1 beats the 12 of its own suit at 5 players, players each receive 10 cards (10 cards are left out). maybe this avoids the weird "who leads?" question ignore the trump rule about ignoring lead for subsequent players I guess I just want to use my copy of marshmallow test to play voodoo prince haha. I wish the box for marshmallow test was smaller. one changed i dont think i heard mentioned is that in MT, the last person in a round gets 0 points which to my understanding is different from voodoo prince.
