Join me for a walk around the gorgeous little seaside town of Marske-by-the-Sea, located in between Redcar and Saltburn-by-the-Sea on the spectacular North Yorkshire coast. Despite its smaller size, Marske is home to a number of fascinating landmarks and hidden heritage, from its town centre to its wonderful beach.
As we walk around Marske, we pass a number of interesting sights, including Marske Hall, St. Mark's Church, Winkie's Castle, The Ship Inn Pub, Outwood Academy Byedales, Cliff House, Marske beach and the North Sea.
Thank you so much to the following sites for their help in my research of Marske:

Although I'm originally from New Marske (1956-1981) I went to senior school in Marske by the Sea, back then it was called Bydales County Modern and I left in 1971. I met my first girlfriend in Marske Square and have spent many hours on the beach, it was even part of our school cross country course. This video brings back great memories. Thank you.

Moved to Marske aged 4 in 1960, lived at 5 High St, not there anymore. Left aged 19 to join the Royal Marines. Happy childhood memories.

This brought back happy memories of visits to my grandparents in Marske. My Nana was very involved in the church community at St Mark’s, including the Mothers’ Union. They lived not far from the church and Marske Hall, while my grandad’s brother lived overlooking St Germain’s churchyard. Such a lovely village. I remember the Valley Gardens, the beach of course, and visiting a little shop called Anderson’s to buy gifts and souvenirs. Thank you for reminding me of some very happy times 😊

I lived there untill I was 12, then my family moved to London for my dads new job. Went to Errington and Bydales. I used to live in a road called The kirklands. 5 minutes and I was on the beach. Great memories. Great video.

My Grandmother was from Redcar, and her ancestors were the Huttons of Marske, breeders of thoroughbred racehorses. There's a wonderful painting of the horse, "Marske, painted by George Stubbs.

Sitting here in Melbourne Australia. I grew up in marske, went to byedales school and errington primary school. I know every inch of that little village spent all my childhood days running around it. I often dream about the place would love to return someday and just take a walk around the streets I grew up in. The nostalgia is hitting me hard watching this.

how beautiful, I first heard about marske when we got a typical holiday postcard saying greetings from marske back in the early 80s from one of my dad aunt´s. THX

Thank you so much! That holiday postcard may have been commonplace back in the early '80s but I bet it's a collectors' item nowadays! It might even get a place in the exhibitions at Winkie's Castle ;) Thanks for watching and your wonderful comments as always - I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed the video!

@@LetsWalkUK The collection at Winkies Castle is a closed collection. It's comprised of the artifacts collected by the late Jack Anderson. There are old postcards in the collection though. Out of interest Jack was actually a Master Shoemaker but was referred to as the local cobbler.

The White building opposite St. Marks Church was actually built as a Miners Institute + it was this that became a cinema (Kinema).

I'm surprised you didn't mention the most beautiful thing in the town. Inside St Marks is the most beautifully carved Norman font which was found buried in the sand dunes where the Norman church of St Germains stood.

@Briardie Год назад
Sheila I live in Marske,have done for 33 years. Longbeck station is at the top of my road. So no, Longbeck Station is not in Redcar. The next station after Longbeck is Redcar East, then Redcar Central or if going the other way, Marske, then Saltburn, which is the end of the line.

I'm afraid you're using too wide angle a camera resulting in bent verticals, very tiresome to watch.
