Not for the faint of heart. Iko Uwais shows off his frenetic, brutal brand of Pencak Silat in the Indonesian Action Thriller.

i was the japanese translator for the raid 2 and i get to hang out with iko and kang yayan a lot. just a fun fact for you all, kang yayan does 200 pushups & situps every morning when he wake up from his sleep. that should answer why he never tires doing these stunts.

@@ajinurfajri1952 the NCFU end fight is brutal but in terms of camera angles it was sloppy. the punches were held back and you could see too many bare fist->chest which led to the camera angle showing they weren't connecting. it was alot of rubber/noodle arm swinging in terms of actual fighting. the metal tacs and exacto knife stabbing was fucking brutal though

what i always loved about this scene is it doesnt do the "ill way my to turn to attack". they fully take advantage of their numbers to the very end, forcing mad dog to put them down, even if just few seconds, with each attack. as you said, the raind (and its sequel) has incredible choreography. this fight, the machete gang, mad dog vs rama,...i honestly couldnt pick a favorite. the kitchen fight and the prison riot in the raid 2 were also memorable.

@@BurridgeMartialArts604 Have u watched these movies yet, (the full versions of them), The Raid: Redemption The Raid 2 The Night Comes For Us There all excellent movies, the choreography is as u said, extremely brutal, so good, some of the best I've ever seen captured on film before, not only do they all do there own stunts, (no doubles, CGI, etc) , but as u said, they don't pull punches, they are not only great marital artists, they know how to shoot these scenes because they don't need quick cuts to hide anything, they can perform the choreography, (which was created by the guy who was in the middle of the 2 guy's that he was fighting), it's absolutely brilliant, I truly believe we need more movies that show marital arts off like these movies, brutal, wide shots, no quick cuts, just flowing, violent and beautiful action, tho, the John Wick series does a pretty good job of showing that off for American audiences the kind of in scene, wide shot, long take action that they usually don't give us here. 🙌😃

I commented on one of your videos a couple of days ago, and it was one part praise, one part criticism. After watching a bunch more and subscribing, I just wanted to add a bit of praise. We all know movie fight scenes are choreographed, and many reactors will belittle them, but you always look like you're enjoying them like they are supposed to be enjoyed, and while you do have the occasional "ok, that's a little unrealistic" moments, it clearly doesn't sound like a complaint. I'm loving your reactions so far. I wish you all the best.

Yayan Ruhian is the short one (Mad Dog in the movie) Side notes: 1. I first saw this movie 2013 and since then have considered these movies as a breath of fresh air from the mostly run n gun type action movies. It's like Ip Man but more brutal and gloomy. 2. The little guy as mentioned is the fight choreographer and apparently he wasn't supposed to be in the movie but no one could do the choreography as good as he could so he ended up in it.

Haha! I could see that being really frustrating, creating this amazing choreography and then nobody can do it justice! 'Fine I'll do it myself I guess!'

I'm glad that you didn't criticise the Guru. He is the real deal. And one of the greatest martial arts practitioners living. All three of those men are silat masters in real life.

There is nothing to criticize! The guy is amazing at what he does and I am no expert when it comes to Silat so I wouldn't even know what to try and criticize haha!

Did you watch the hallway fight though?? that scene is lit on its own. There's two hallway fight scene in the raid 1, the second fight scene kinda brutal but the first really show me on how to utilize pencak silat better in a fight.

Watching this scene from the persepctive of fighting someone that good with my own brother makes me wonder how far I'd be able to push myself....an awful thing to think about, but that's what a good story does.

Ruhiyan's past job as military self-defense instructor for the presidential guards may contribute to the aptitude for gore in his choreography. POTRI Guards are all ex special forces, and so are their instructors. Silat is originally an assassination technique rather than an art. The artistic "kembangan" or fancy stance functions only to taunt the enemy. There's hardly a high kick in Silat, as the feet are meant to hit soft tissue and vital organs. Multiple punches are a rare sight, as its signature attack is the 3-finger rip of the jugular. Creating long fight sequences featuring Silat, therefore, calls for incorporating other martial arts. Otherwise it cannot be pretty nor long. It's always MMA, never just Silat. This is also true in real-life. You need other martial arts to soften your attacks in street fights; because using pure Silat will only get you in jail for murder.
