A Martial challenge between Nick Thomas of the Academy of Historical Fencing, and Oli Barker, from the School of the Sword. Nick is in the white striped trousers, Oli all black.
Actually fencing with the rapier is about inside and outside lines and working around them, it's just normally done with blade contact/engagement as that is the shortest route with most reach.
Double hits here a plenty, as I was saying ... Small Sword is no more or less prone to doubles than Rapier or any other system, It is inevitable, and an even chance in any encounter no matter the weapon. Nice clip and great to see a Pappenheimer getting a workout, they are my favourite type of Rapier also.
That has not been my experience at all. Smallsword fencing at every level of I have watched has resulted in more double hits than most other styles. I think it is an interesting weapon and have many originals myself, but I do not consider it a particularly partially sound weapon. But such opinion on a weapon and style will always be opinion, no matter how educated or considered that opinion is.
