Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

There was a comet that came down about 12,000 into the ice sheet causing an advance of the ice and colder temperatures, leading to the end of all the large mammal species including the mammoth, the giant Sloth and I have no clue how many more.

I love your passion about birds and àlso about first nations history and the holy landscape and so. We have bald eagles🦅 here, they migrated and live fortunately in the Biesbosch ( south of the netherlands in brabant wich is a huge wetland nature park). They also had eggs and chicks🐣. Kind regards from the Netherlands. 😃🇳🇱

Hello Martin Just watched your share of I guess it was 2019 Winter Solstice & Perowan Gap = fascinating. Thank you deeply for sharing such marvellous knowledge & your own personal feelings for the history you dwell within. I am here on South Great Barrier Reef for 3 years now having returned for my ailing father. LA/Pasadena has been my home for nigh on 30 years & I intend to return once covid-19 is a little less threatening. Hopi Indian sacred dwellings has been my favorite visit in reverence. I intend to explore Southern Utah upon my return. The Painted Desert is one of my most awe inspired memories in my US travels. I love your videos. Your road trip & lecture at Big Bear made me so nostalgic. Thank you for all the care & share you, Susan, sweet Helen, beautiful Belle & super Scout give us all. Heartfelt best wishes Alison-Clare

Great to know that there are still a lot of eagles around, but also sad that they can no longer live and hunt as they used to. Same with seagulls on the east coast, where I live. They used to eat fish, but, with all the over-fishing, they just hang around supermarket parking lots living off of scraps.

Your tour of the gap should be put on the history channel so everyone throughout the world would be able to learn from you. You have a calm & interesting way to present information. Your able to teach history that you have experienced yourself which the world is better knowing the whys & what caused things to happen as they did. There should be more than a thumbs up/down &should have a scale of 1-10 to rate your videos. All of them would be above 8.

Forgot to put snow on the back half of the yard. Might be time to look for new set and continuity staff. :) Love to see the hawk releases. I do wildlife photography and raptors are one of my favorites to get a chance to see. Found a redtail and a Mississippi kite so far this week. The owls near home have been doing a good job of hiding, but the nightly hoots confirm there's still a great horned close by, a barred a little farther out and at least one eastern screech owl passes through on occasion. Do you get northern harriers in your area? They sometimes winter near here, and it's always a special treat to find one's hunting ground and just sit and watch for hours.

There's a couple interesting things about dislikes. 1) Often it encourages others to like 2) Anyone who dislikes the video, must also watch the video, so it is still a view, so still helps the channel.

At the end of this clip's a tour of petroglyphs. I share the interest in its existence after so many unrecorded years. It's important to memorialize those who lived before us, even those who aren't related.

I get choked up with every release. (except the owl,i giggled bcuz he was screeching-to say lemme go already!). its heartwarming the work you do. great about getting the wires insulated 👍 i was curious if youve ever rehabbed ravens? thier my native bird(ive been told). theres a pair at my job i talk to,when boss isnt watching. 😊 well have a happy valentines day to you and your lovely wife ❤🌷 on a side note its infuriating how people have disrespected the sacred area, writings on rocks as well as grave sites. so sad actually. if only they understood the repercussions. 🙇‍♀️

When this birds of pray stay in captivity for years or so, don’t they become domestic and risk of not managing to hunt and survive by they own when they get released to the wild after year ?

Hi, guys, I've been watching videos on your channel for two weeks now. I come from Austria and was looking for videos about birds of prey, because I want to prepare for a falconry day, which I will visit with my wife in summer. Your videos are really great and I also think all the information you get besides the ones about the birds is great. Like in this video. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Austria P.S.: I have a question that may already have been answered in a video, but I am still far from having looked at all of them... ;) In one video Martin examined the broken joint on one wing. I noticed that the bird did not react to it. Do birds feel nothing at this place, or was he just under shock?

Not without pain, but also very stressed and very tired so overall bad day for the bird.

Rudolf Steiner, founder of Anthroposophy, also discussed the Moon knot in the life course of man. When the Moon is at the same point after 18 years and six months as when a man is born, there is often (not always) a major event, which does not necessarily have to be negative. It may be that someone decides to go on a world tour, or to start a particular study, it may also happen that someone suddenly has a violent illness. These moments are therefore repeated after 18 years and six months and are fixed points in human biography.

With winter coming wouldn't he prefer the comfort of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation . Seems like survival in winter is hard, where do they nest during the storms. Boy were those words foreshadowing about the coming year. Its been all down hill since January.

It must be better sweet to release a bird of prey. You have taken care of it for some time, rehabilitated it and returned it to the wild. On the other hand, you have bonded with it, so I'll bet it really feels very bitter sweet. Also I want to thank you for explaining about the American Indians and the Petroglyphs and the soltis. It is a shame that people know about it now, but it's also a part of our ancestors. I'm glad that you keep secret, about the sacred burial grounds for they are very sacred. Wow, I've never heard this story. Do u know what tribe this is? I know the Salish, Kootenai that I lived with for a year in MT called the Creator of the world, Yahweh, or the Creator. Another tribe called Jesus the Messanger or the Prophet. Thank you so so much for this Native American culture information!🦅🦉🦅 Is there anyway, without hurting the Indigenous people's writings is there any way to take off the wrong graffiti that someone vandalized on the rock?

Protecting native culture and heritage / art is important ... but the "balancing act" can take another turn again if MASS TOURISM ever should show up. The fantastic animal drawings in the cave of Lascaux in France had to be protected from visitors, because they were disappearing due to the artificial light being brought in and whatnot. They built a "copy" of the caves for visitors. The same is true for the colours in egyptian tombs ... The concept of the petroglyphs is amazing ... because you would have to work on the idea over several years observing events and counting the days ... and then figuring out the idea with the rocks to stand on.
