On July 8th, Martin was called out to a public city park in Cedar City. He went expecting to find Kestrel Falcons that sometimes nest there. However, on arrival, he found a young Cooper's Hawk, also known as "the hawk everyone loves to hate". The Cooper's Hawk is a small and aggressive hawk. They hunt mostly small birds.
This young hawk had left the nest, which is normal, but unfortunately, all around the nest was a busy city park full of people and dogs and all kind of threats to this young bird. Because of this, Martin took the young hawk back to the rescue center.
On July 13th, Martin was called out to the park again. This time for a second Cooper's Hawk from the same nest. Both birds were kept in a chamber together.
On July 26th, when both hawks were old enough and feeding themselves, Martin released them safely out of town in an environment well suited for the young hawks. These hawks will have the same chances as any others despite being separated from their parents. They live mostly as solitary hunters until they are old enough to mate.

Martin Tyner
Martin Tyner, founder of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah, is a federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator, educator, propagator, and master falconer with over 50 years of experience.
Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.

Almost always when Martin rescues wildlife such as eagles, owls and hawks, inevitably they seem to calm right down when he leans then against his chest. They surely can hear Martin's heartbeat, must be calming. God bless you guys for all you do for these beautiful creatures! ❤⚘🦉🦅

@@GowildlifeOrg You are absolutely correct. Our property backs up to a state park (in Maryland), so we have plenty of wildlife (fox, deer, ravens, etc.) we can observe. It just wasn't much fun to clean up the blood, fur, and feathers they left behind on the patio! You could definitely tell when they were around as the birds and squirrels would suddenly give frantic alarm calls and then complete silence.

A couple of years ago, I was feeding the ducks down by our docks and there were a few pigeons there, as well. A Cooper hawk came down and struck a pigeon right by my feet. He kept trying to fly off with it but kept dropping it after rising 6-8 ft. Eventually, he got it up to a low branch of a nearly tree. I didn’t realize until watching this video that pigeons outweigh Cooper hawks.

Hi Martin😁 WHY are they the bird people love to hate? How much bigger will they get? When you put them in a pen that an owl or other bird has been in, can they smell that something else has been there & do they feel threatened at all when you put them in cage that other birds have been in? Hi, Martin. Interesting pair of Cooper Hawks. I wonder... would Coopers Hawks predate on Starlings? Also, would they eat grasshoppers/locusts? I believe they are in the towns eating pigeons. Am I correct? Thanks for sharing! Stay healthy!
