Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis sing Every Street's a Boulevard on the 5/20/54 episode of The Colgate Comedy Hour. This was the first time that they sang it on the show. They would sing it again in a later CCH show that year.

This song just goes to show that there wasn't anything in entertainment that Martin & Lewis couldn't do and do well. Even their singing (in great harmony) and dancing were dead on perfect. They were wonderful.

The movies were TRYING to capture the lightning from their stage shows. Yes, the movie numbers found their way into their stage routines, so there was cross-pollination. Jerry was the uncredited director of some of their movie bits because the actual directors would not have known how to capture some of their routines. There will never be another comedy team like Martin & Lewis, and there will never be another comedy genius like Jerry Lewis.

Because both Dean and Jerry and Dean's daughter (Deana Martin) have always said that EXTERNAL FORCES tore them apart! Their story is way more complicated than what the usual anti-Semitic idiots who hate Jerry because they believe crap gossip about him are writing everywhere. Those two made peace 14 months after the breakup. And they talked to each other, they called each other often, and in 1966/1967 they were literally talking about going back to work together. And they were back in touch months before the 1976 Telethon. SOMETHING VERY BIG TOLD THEM APART AND KEEPING THEM APART!
@jerrylewisthekid5479
@jerrylewisthekid5479 Год назад
@@susantunbridge4612 Deana Martin considered Jerry her second father! She said he was ALWAYS there for her like a real father and even now calls Jerry "Uncle Jerry"!. They even sang together. But stop writing bullshit. If Jerry had been that bad, would Dean's daughter have loved him that much? Ah for your other information FRANK SINATRA had a controlling personality, arrogant, a perfectionist and intolerant of those who disagreed with him. And he liked having dangerous friends. Basically Sinatra had a worse personality than Jerry but Dean worked with Sinatra for years! So how do we put it? Jerry was totally submissive to Dean. Those who are intelligent understand it only by looking at them!
@kellycaviness4850
@kellycaviness4850 Год назад
Exactly. Just watch them together. Jerry Loved Dean so much and I think Dean loved Jerry. He just couldn't say it. Jerry could convey his feelings better than Dean. People are blind if they can't see the adoration and love between them whether they were gay or not.
@jerrylewisthekid5479
@jerrylewisthekid5479 Год назад
@@kellycaviness4850 Jerry was Jewish. And most of Dean's fans are toxic fans: homophobic, anti-Semitic, racist (I'll never understand why he has so many. Sinatra had a bad temper but he doesn't have as many toxic fans as Dean). And they believe all the crap gossip they read. Jerry's character (the character not the person) is a loser character. The sad clown, the incompetent child, the idiot. And Martin's toxic fans don't understand that that was just the mask, the character. On the other hand, Dean's public character was successful, although smoking, drinking, gambling, having promiscuous sex, having mafia friendships can be considered cool. For the American way of life based on appearance, on power, on money, it's cool. Jerry is seen as unlucky, Dean as a winner. And a winner can't deal with an idiot. Even love him? (any kind of love we're talking about). The more I read and study about them the more I am convinced that they were a couple, like Romeo and Juliet. They loved each other, they hated each other, they loved each other again. The opposite of love is not hate. The opposite of love is indifference. And those two have NEVER been indifferent to each other. I've also read that when one of their children was physically ill, the other would call to ask what was going on. Their own children were friends! Ricci Martin and Anthony Lewis were great friends! Ricci Martin has performed many times with Gary Lewis saying he is honored to sing with him. Gary Lewis and Deana Martin performed together. If it was true that fathers didn't get along why were their sons friends? No, there's everything to find out about those two. The "true" truth has never been told.

For the 10 years they were together - they were amazing. I saw them at the Paramount - people would not want to leave which is why they started throwing photos out of their window! Jerry was the control freak. Dean was the laid back crooner with a fantastic sense of comic timing. I believe Jerry truly loved Dean. You can see it in the way he looks at him. I think Dean loved him as well - as a good friend. Their breakup according to Jerry was his doing. I don't know if I believe that. They made a fortune of money and were going strong so there has to be more to it. As I stated above Jerry had to be into everything and Dean wanted to play golf and live his life. He couldn't care less how a camera worked - Jerry wanted to know everything. I think that was the main cause of their breakup. Jerry upstaged Dean in every sketch - in movies - everywhere - and as Jerry once said he could never had taken the backseat that Dean had to. That Jerry Lewis is still alive at 90 considering all his physical ailments - those falls he took - just proves that if a person has good DNA - they last. I miss this team - there will never be another one.

That’s all so well said.... I wonder since jerry worked so hard, why Dean didn’t just relax as he wanted, play golf as he wanted, appreciate all the comedic talent and investment by Jerry. But I read that Dean did not like Jerry’s Chaplin Sh-. It would Have been better if Dean had not put Down Jerry studying Chaplin. He could have encouraged him and appreciated and berm grateful for his Talent. Jerry was never going to give up his study of Chaplin. However, the press was a lot at fault. They constantly lauded Jerry. Yes he was so much the creator and mastermind. But Dean was a perfect partner, he loved him, held him snd pulled him back from the audience and humanized him. Both.... needed each other for the magic. Both pulled the team apart. Jerry had huge aspirations working with Chaplin and Stan Laurel. He wanted to direct, produce, write on a high level and Did. Award of France’s Legion of Honor, broadcast Association Award, nominated for Nobel Peace Prize, Oscars humanitarian award and so much more. He needed to grow. Dean wanted to entertain. He felt at times, stuck, and the breaking point for him were limited roles on their movies. Hal Wallis was the cause/fault So Dean wanted to prove he could do other movie roles. And he wanted to sing and not not work hard. They both ended up having different career aspirations. They both had polar opposite with work ethics. That’s difficult to manage. They both broke each other up. I wish they could have pursued their own careers, given each other a Little space, appreciated each other more.... and performed perhaps 2x per month. People would have flocked to see them and they could have mdintsinrd the relationship. Jerry loved, loved- Dean. Dean opened to Jerry, bot after their break he closed and was hurt too. Re Dean, people mentioned they could not get close to him. Many people said they didn’t or couldn’t get to know him. He also never innovated the way he did with Jerry. His creativity slowed but his entertainment value did not. With little effort he had super popst songs snd talk shows. He did what he wanted- work little and he was a popular entertainer. Jerry pushed the mark again and again, pushing himself. He took risks. Greater successes and some things that didn’t work. Dean did not want the risk. I wish they both could have appreciated their mutual magic together, and Continued to perform. I miss them as a team and love them together. Magic. Here is Dean’s life in his own words, and his goals. www.saturdayeveningpost.com/2019/01/dean-martin-lush-life/ Here are some accomplishments on Jerry The Not-So-Nutty Professor In addition to his varied entertainment, philanthropic and family responsibilities, Jerry has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, where he taught a graduate course in film direction. The Total Film Maker, a book based on recordings of 480 hours of his classroom lectures, was published by Random House in 1971. And since the book hit the stands, it became mandatory reading in every university and film school in the United States, as well as Continental Europe. The Films of Jerry Lewis book is one of the most comprehensive studies of one man’s body of work in the motion picture industry. The “Real” Jerry Lewis Behind the pratfalls, the jokes and the public persona, Jerry Lewis is a devoted family man who always carries snapshots of his family in his pockets for luck. The entertainer has a daughter, Danielle, born in 1992, in addition to five sons - Gary, Ron, Scott, Chris and Anthony - and several grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A frequent MDA Telethon highlight is a performance by Jerry's number-one son and his band -- Gary Lewis and the Playboys -- and the Telethon cameras regularly catch Sam and Danielle sitting in their customary front row seats. It’s also no coincidence that the official Jerry Lewis Web site, www.jerrylewiscomedy.com, is hosted by Jerry’s son, Chris. Jerry is famous for his love of children, and the immense popularity he enjoys among them is hardly surprising. “I get paid for doing what children are punished for,” he reasons. “In doing this, I can help them get rid of their hostility quotient.” Or, as one 14-year-old fan put it: “Jerry is just a nice big kid who makes us laugh. Kids love him because he’s really one of us.” Jerry summed it up himself when he said - in response to the countless well-wishers who wrote to commemorate his 76th birthday in March 2002: “76? You got the birth date right, but the age is wrong! I’m only 9 … remember? Always have been, always will be.” The motto that best expresses Jerry’s ongoing love affair with humanity is this: “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” --- Humanitarian Awards “Jerry Lewis is a man for all seasons, all people and all times. His name has, in the hearts of millions, become synonymous with peace, love, and brotherhood.” The late Secretary of Defense Les Aspin, then a congressman from Wisconsin, penned those words in 1977 in the conclusion of his nomination of Jerry for the Nobel Peace Prize. Never in the history of show business has an entertainer been so honored. In 1984, the government of France officially recognized that country's legendary admiration of Jerry Lewis by giving him its two most distinguished awards. First, Lewis was made a Commander in the Order of Arts and Letters, and was extolled by French Minister of Culture Jack Lang for his “human qualities and generosity. You are a child’s friend, and a model for adults.” Later that same year, Jerry was inducted into the Legion of Honor by the decree of President Francois Mitterand. Legion membership honors individuals whose accomplishments demonstrate extraordinary public service. Back in the United States, on June 8, 1985, the Defense Department presented Jerry with its highest civilian award - the Medal for Distinguished Public Service. The citation that accompanies the engraved gold medal reads, in part: “His service has had a profound effect on the youth of our country, on men and women in uniform today and their children, and on those children who shall one day serve our country in its defense.” In December 1996, the American Medical Association presented its Lifetime Achievement Awards to Jerry and MDA “for significant and lasting contributions to the health and welfare of humanity.” Jerry was honored for his decades of dedication to MDA, becoming only the fifth person in AMA history to receive this award. As National Chairman of MDA, Jerry has devoted two-thirds of his lifetime to the effort to eradicate neuromuscular diseases. His unflagging, year-round work for this cause has endeared him to millions. Under Jerry’s leadership, the Association has been - and will continue to be - the recognized leader in the worldwide fight against these diseases. Legendary Entertainer One of the most successful performers in show business - with worldwide box office gross receipts of his films in excess of $800 million - Jerry Lewis has received global acclaim for his unique ability and style with both comedy and drama. Best known for his comedic genius, he's considered among the elite in the history of comedy. He has an exceptional feel for comic timing and possesses all the other unique qualities of a great clown. Critic Harriet Van Horne described Jerry’s screen persona as “a sort of witless genius,” while Hollywood director Leo McCarey called Lewis “the Pied Piper of the business, the heir to the mantle of Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd.” In 1991, Jerry received two impressive honors as the show business industry recognized his lifetime of achievement. On January 13, he received the Comic Life Achievement Award during cable television’s annual ACE Awards. The National Association of Broadcasters paid tribute to Jerry by inducting him into the Broadcast Hall of Fame on April 17. Jerry was inducted into the International Humor Hall of Fame in 1992. And on February 22, 1998, Jerry received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Comedy Hall of Fame. In 1999, legendary film director Martin Scorsese presented Jerry Lewis with a career Golden Lion award at the Venice International Film Festival. Lewis was honored as “an extraordinary example of the total filmmaker: scriptwriter, director and protagonist of his films, therefore fully responsible for his work.” He kept giving and giving and giving to us. He loved so much. We are so grateful to him and his life. www.criterion.com/current/posts/4845-jerry-lewis-1926-2017

Dean went on to be one of the most talented performers in the mid 20th century. He excelled in acting, nightclubs, t.v. comedy and did it with ease.
