During a trip to Ireland to perform at a TV awards do, Martin and Eliza Carthy performed a few songs at a private, unadvertised gathering for a friend, Dan McDonald. Here is a song - with long introduction - from Martin, from his 1960s repertoire, in a new/alternative setting, as recorded for a 2014 BBC TV drama soundtrack, 'Remember Me'.

Lovely to hear Martin-tho it’s too bad his comments are hard to understand. I heard him sing the more famous version in 1965, when I was an American college student taking a year off. I lived in Judith Piepe’s apartment at 6 Dellow House, in London’s East End, when Paul Simon was also staying there. Art Garfunkel arrived sometime later. Arty, as Judith called him, asked me to show him Martin’s chords to the more well-known version of Scarborough Fair. What a wonderful privilege that year was! --Caroline Culpepper Staples

Wonderful. If you ever meet Martin in person, he is the politest most humble person you could ever hope to meet, not to mention his absolutely HUGE contribution to English Folk music. I hold him in the highest respect. And I never forget, he showed his version of this song (I know its original source) to one struggling Paul Simon who went on to make $$$$$$ out of it - and never gave Martin a penny.

Apparently he finally apologised to Martin a few years ago. Agree that he’s one of the nicest and most humble people you could ever meet.

I did a warm up for Martin in the 90s at the tontyne hotel in Ironbridge, I wonder if he remembers, I was playing classical guitar. Lovely man.
