I believe people should not rely on relationships and pursue to have their OWN place rather than live off a partner and the partner's place. Relationships can collapse, then what? You can't live in their property after the break up. Have a contingent plan before it happens. I keep telling people never rely on a boyfriend or a girlfriend etc. People do change. Some people divorce etc. Luckily, I thought about this as a teenager. I said to myself that I want to earn my money, own my own car, own my property, etc. Everyone has a different mentality I suppose. Wisdom is a gift as it helps you to cope with the trials of life.
