I was there was my wife and two sons and still, every time I see this try the hair on the back of my neck stands up - amazing try from an amazing player!
I was there - I like the way Tait pats Offiah's back after Offiah scores. Proper RL solidarity that. Good Leeds' sportmanship. Always respected Leeds. Good bunch. A Wigan fan
i remember watching this with my dad. All the Wigan greats....botica ..skerret...Robinson.....Connolly...tuigamala...Edwards....Farrell.....those were the days. (sigh)
And six months later during the 1994 Kangaroo Tour in the Australian's game against Leeds at Headingley....the exact same try happened with Tait getting beaten on the outside and on the same side of the field.....by of all people Allan Langer. I could have understood if he's been beaten for pace by someone like Andrew Ettingshausen, Michael Hancock or Steve Renouf (who were in the green and gold that night). But Allan Langer was a 5'6" halfback who would have been hard pressed beating a front rower in a foot race.
im a wigan fan i was there that day. i still to this day cant get over how incredible that try was martin offiah faster than greased lightning breathtaking awesome
Keep watching this.Still amazed. But look at the crowd...Full house. Packed to the rafters.Today is a struggle to get that full house! Need something from RFL. Cricket boosting their audience.Need new energy in RL
I was in that corner where he scored. crowd were goin bananas... He went round tait without even trying. Gotta be the most lethal winger in rugby history.
I still have my shirt from 94, signed by Jason Robinson, Barry John Mather, Chris radkinski and a few others. My dad was in touch with Jack Hilton and he sorted it 👍🏼
Alan Tait had a habit of doing that (showing wingers the sideline rather than try to tackle them) and it usually backfired. It did here as Offiah just burned him for pace, and Tait actually did the same thing later in the year in Leeds' game against the touring Aussies when he showed of all players Allan Langer the sideline, didn't attempt to tackle him, and like Offiah here Alfie scored in the corner.
The best try I have, ever, seen in a Challenge Cup. I remember watching this, with, a few friends. And, apart, from, 'laughing-my-a!$%-off,' at, the, sheer, brilliance of the try, I was laughing at Martin, looking around for pursuers (too fast for them, mate!). As well as, probably, teammates (too fast for them, as well, mate!). As for Alan Tait, he did, EVERYTHING, right. But, he might as well have been showing Usain Bolt 'the outside.' I think Martin Offiah was 'Usain Bolt' to other RL players (in terms of speed). However, to Usain Bolt, Martin Offiah was.....Martin Offiah. In a 100 m sprint, MO would not stand a chance against UB. It has been documented that MO could have run 100 m in 10.6 or 10.7 secs - which, means that he would have struggled to beat the top FEMALE sprinters (then and now!).
As good as the try was,Alan Tait at fullback was shocking. He almost shepherded Offiah to the line.He could at least have made a diving attempt to tackle him or ankle tap!
Tait was bragging in the lead up to this game that nobody including Offiah would get past him on the outside. To be fair from the second replay you can see there is quite a big gap between Offiah and Tait. Too far to make an ankle tap or diving tackle. On the first angle they look much closer.
