As a Celtic fan of nearly 70 i was lucky enough to have watched Jinky , he was one of the best i have ever seen and one of my favourite players when he consider the money players are paid now compared too back then it is obscene , not only that the wee man was so funny and had a heart of Gold R.I.P. wee man always remember you Hail Hail

Thank fuck Celtic don't have anyone close to the wee man nowadays. Seriously though I'm a rangers supporter but Jinky is a joy to watch total character and along Baxter something we will never see again. What a player

As a Leeds fan I know from experience in 1970 how good JJ was . Terry Cooper was a great defender for us but he really struggled against JJ in the 70 European Cup semis as well as this game . Also it shows how influential Billy Bremner was as he's always in the camera shot whichever part of the pitch the action is .

As a Englishman, got to say, he was genius.

Wee Jinky absolutely tortured Inter Milan in the European Cup Final in Lisbon in 1967 when Celtic became the first UK club to win the trophy. The only way they could stop him was to kick him. Tragically struck down by MND and no longer with us! RIP wee man!

Jinky was something else. He along with George Best were the best dribblers in the British Isles (with all due respect to Sir Stanley Matthews). I grew up watching both of them on the 1960s, and they were out of this world. Both of them left us too soon.

What a player he was, the way he beats players by just moving his body and not even touching the ball is truly quite remarkable

An absolute legend! I remember him as a kid when he used to visit his sister in law down in Bothwell Lanarkshire as Jimmy used to be out running down from Viewpark Uddingston. He would stop and play football with all the weans (kids) me included. I’ll never ever forget those days. Some of us wore Rangers shirts but that didn’t make a difference to him as he rose above that narrow minded mind set as he was all about football. My dad was from Viewpark and Jimmy had a cup of tea at ours before going to see Francis. Apparently one of his idols was Garrincha. For me he was one of the best players of all time and up there in terms of ability with the greats. He just didn’t get the recognition that he deserved. Even now with the very popular EA Sports FIFIA Ultimate Team video game he’s not included. In that game that sells millions Globally they have players rated as icons. None of the 1967 Celtic team are included nor indeed the Rangers team who won the European cup winners cup either. As a Rangers fan I can say we were all proud of Jimmy and tbh Celtic too as we are all Scottish and the same culturally identity. If your a true football fan then blue or green should make no difference in your admiration of a great player RIP Jinkie

As an English 9 year old growing up in Singapore ,who's idol was G. Banks , i never heard of Jimmy Johnson , untill the Gordon Highlander kids my school mates told me about him . I remember next day Sunday 10 am ( Time Difference ) . Jocks & English at my friends Jock house , a cheer went up everytime J.J. touch the ball .

He was a magnificent player and a joy to watch.

I feel for Jimmy here. He was accustomed to playing with like Lennox, Murdoch, Connolly and Hay every week. Half of this team are nowhere near that level.

My God ...poor Terry Cooper ended up with twisted blood after this and Glasgow Celtic v Leeds United..European Cup Semi final in 1970 ..that wee Jinky tore Leeds apart😁

Remember JJ well ! I was only about 8 , but even then-in England!-you just knew there was something special about anyone who played for Jock Stein's Celtic, JJ was one of the select few World class Scots who never came to an English club. Great player.

Don't ask the Celtic fans how good Jimmy was, ask the Rangers fans. Along with people like Wilson, Henderson and Willie Johnston of Rangers, Hughes, Lennox and Jimmy Johnstone of Celtic, we had a load of great wingers.

I'm only going to comment on what I've seen here but it's lovely to see a player play like he was in the school playground as one of the better kids. Held on to the ball too long as time and gave the ball away a lot but ran around giving so much. England looked to foul him as the only way to stop him.he had very close control which is difficult to defend against!

Wonderful skills in the days when we still had a team to be proud of! Jim Baxter playing keepy-uppy against the then World Champions team in 1967 is another great moment in football history...

As a scottish man myself we did have some great players but couldn't do it at big tournaments one day I hope things change. Our current squad under Steve Clarke still need a jimmy johnstone and a Kenny Dalglish but also I feel we need a world class central defender or two cos we concede goals at the top level you have to be rock solid. I don't know if we will get past Ukraine if we do then it will be tougher against Wales.

Apart from a few nice moments in the first half. He mostly lost the ball, running into brick walls. On a side note: the ball moved like a brick back then. Modern balls move so swiftly with just a tap. Makes for faster moving games.

If only he could have played a through ball in this game. I never saw him in the flesh, but he looks like one of those players who would infuriated me.

One of the most underrated players ever. How anyone can forget what he did to Madrid… The Madrid fans were screaming ‘ole’ and clapped him off the pitch! Years before the Madrista’s did it to Ronaldinho. He’s up with there with Best and co. Legend.

Ah, British football in the '70s! No players diving, lots of hard tackles, and referees who understood that physical contact was part of the game.

Beautiful footwork. Very similar in style to Garrincha. He often shows the defender the ball and at the right moment takes it away from him. Another similar trait is he throws a defender by letting the ball run across his body without touching it.

Remembered those balls, heavy a nightmare to head and super slippery.

A fine wee player from a time when Scottish football meant something on worldwide basis. That said, the only real moment from this clip is at about 2.30, where he twists Terry Cooper’s blood and even makes Sir Bobby get his shorts dirty! An achievement in itself.

He showed loads of enthusiasm but didn't have the ball under control very often.

Back in the 70's they used large strange orange looking balls. It was bad for players heading that massive heavy ball. I'm glad the technology has improved these days to have better lighter more aerodynamic balls.

Jinky was legendary etc but his light was starting to fade here. 70/71 was a season where he'd excelled at club level. After that he steadily declined and was in the American soccer league four years later. Alcohol problems then Motor neurone disease meant he died just 61 yrs old.

Brill recommendation. I’m a Shankly era kopite and Jimmy was one of my favourite players outside of my beloved reds.

Would have been better showing him vs England in 1966, when he scored 2 goals, even though England won 4-3.
