Man! You guys do the best demos on RU-vid. No pedals, no flexing, and succinct. Demonstrates just how bad most youtube channels are that we've had to endure over the years, like Andertons and all the teachers who aren't dealers. Probably one of the top 3 most talented players on RU-vid too.
Great video Cooper, thanks. I own one of the original SC-13e KOA models. While I like it and it's definitely a "players guitar", I see it as a niche product rather than an every day piece. If I'm doing solo or duo gigs, I go with something else (J-45, Hummingbird, D-55, etc.) but with a 5 or 6 piece full band this is my go-to. I feel this series is definitely aimed more at lead players and/or electric guitar players that need an acoustic/electric now and then. As always, your playing is very impressive.
Tried both of these models today myself. I’m veering towards the Burst special…Beautiful tone! Looks cool too! Thanks for clarifying a few things. I have been watching your videos with interest, and feel like I know what I’m looking for now! ⭐️🎸
I bought an original sc-13 after playing nearly every guitar in one of the most famous acoustic guitar shops in the USA. I walked in ready to spend 5 grand. During my time trying many various guitars there my expectations of which guitars I would like and which ones I wouldn’t was proven wrong. It came down to the sc and a custom shop guitar. The custom shop had more projection but not enough difference to justify the cost, it was very close. I purchased the sc and I have no regrets. The action was slightly high for my preference and the shop offered to lower it but I took it the way it was. I returned to the shop two months later and they adjusted the action in about 5 minutes. That was 6 months ago and I couldn’t be happier. I don’t consider myself an expert but I do have a studio full of guitars including many much more expensive than the sc-13. I haven’t played one of them since I bought this one. Actually that makes me think I should go dust them off. Maybe this guitar is for you or maybe not. I am vary satisfied with mine.
I really appreciate the comparison between the Fishman pickup and the L.R. Baggs. I have bought quite a few Fishman products over the years, and it has been a mixed bag. The Fishman Ellipse Matrix Blend is by far the best pickup I've ever used, but I have never owned an L.R. Baggs Anthem and I wonder how they compare.
Martin just announced a CS-SC (Custom Shop) version of this guitar. All solid wood. Made in the US. Limited to 300 units. I think the price was around $4,999.
I'm going to get an SC-10e, pull out the Fishman pickup and replace with an LR Baggs Anthem after which it will sound better than the SC-13e Special with the LR Baggs Element.
Wow…finally a Martin that’s not plain vanilla! I love the burst but wish it still sported the fishman and tuner. I used to have a GPCPA and liked the tuner on the side. In the hole seems counter productive to sound vibration. I’d buy it simply because it’s a Martin and burst finish.
As far as neck adjustments it might not be a bad idea to allow people to work on their own guitars but either way it sounds like it’ll be much less of a headache and expense than a neck reset on a traditional dovetail joint.
What ? The burst is 2700$ here in Canada ! I just played one today while out Taylor shopping. Loved it and agree the LR Baggs is the Bomb. I'm headed back soon to slam some cash down on that baby. Thanks for your opinions 👍
OK- So i bought the 10e… and its been a very hard choice. It was between that and the 13e special and ive played both… the 10e definitely had a very crispy top end that can be a little unpleasant, so i might be switching to the special. It definitely sounds better and outperforms… the one thing that is SUPER annoying is losing that TUNER! that soundhole tuner w the MXT is one of the best innovations in acoustic electric guitar that ive seen in years. Acoustically, the 10e still sounds incredible, but being that the pickup accentuates that super high end frequency i ended up with a 10 band eq on the ground… that does fix it quite well… IDK man i hate to drop another 500 bucks and lose my tuner but its real tempting. Side note- my 10E had too low of an action. It needed a new saddle, and instead of replacing it the local shop actually glued wood to the bottom and sanded it down to the correct angle… got it playing perfectly… again tough call !
Jibber-jabber was mildly interesting and all. Your playing is off the charts amazing. The sounds you’re pulling out of this pair of marties is nothing short of mezmerizing.
Great video. The LR Baggs still has a better recording tone, but still with that piezo quack. Running into FX/DAW with an acoustic DI might help with both. 10e is the deal. Not to find one to try out...
Cooper think the 'veneer' on back & inside has mahogany between it - not solid i know but when you hear veneer the mind tends to think the worse ! Fantastic playing as always man !
Martin should include the shims with the guitar. Afterall that adjustability was a major aspect they used to sell it to me and about half the reason I ordered one. The nearest martin service center to me is 4 hours away and they can't tell me if they have it or not. I myself am a tech/luthier. And worse yet I had asked Martin to skip the Fishman crap and put in the LR baggs just like the available option on their other guitars the refused and I litteraly told them that was fucked up because it was optional on other models and they knew damned well in a year or two that they would put that out. Sure enough. And they kept me waiting a year on it.i have never been so disappointed in a guitar and customer service. After a year of owning the sc13e it became unplayable which is insane when none of my other guitars moved at all. Since I picked it up to be a beater I went and purchased a much better beater at a much better price. I have had a 12 string Seagull I bought new 20 years ago it sits low from it's original setup, I've never detuned it and I've never had to adjust the action or truss rod. So I said F martin (minus my vintage ones) and I went and purchased another Seagull Guitar because, Seagull>Martin....
So i have not has a chance to play a SC-10E but played both the SC-13E special sunburst and "Vanilla" at the Martin factory and i was so impressed by there unplugged sounds....does the SC-10E sound as good as the SC-13E's specials when played unplugged? Anyone?
I liked the Fishman pickup better. I think if the treble was slightly reduced on the Fishman it would be a sweeter more realistic tone than the Baggs pickup.
Guys, tell me which is better to take Martin Guitars SC-10E or Taylor 214 ce plus? Which of these two guitars will sound better? It’s especially important to me that there are more overtones and more bottom end in the sound🤔
I love Martin guitars myself. I have a 00028 VS 12 fret , and a 00016 nylon string also a 12 fret. They are both cannons and sound like a piano or an organ . However I personally couldn’t rationalize to myself paying this much money for a guitar that isn’t even all solid wood.
Them tuners are Graphtec ratio tuners. I purchased a set for my Martin junior, good idea but they feel cheaply made, a bit sloppy and thin. Shame really, great idea just poor decision to produce them on the cheap and charge a premium price. They cost £130 a set here in the UK.
I recently purchased the Martin sc-13e ae in natural. It was a great looking guitar but I sent it back after 3 days. I was extremely disappointed that Martin would ship a guitar that was so bad. The high E string was rattling on the frets and the action was very high to the point that it was hard to play. But the real killer was the intonation, it was way off. In order to get the high e string to sound close to being in tune I had to bend the e string about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch at the 12 th fret. Needless to say I asked for my money back and sent it back. I have never been so discussed with a guitar in all my life. It was horrible. Never again
I would have taken it to a Martin Certified Shop and let a Guitar Technician try to adjust it before sending it back. Guitars especially acoustic guitars change with humidity, heat, cold etc. Its possible the wood "settled" or moved during shipping. A certified approved Martin Guitar shop can fix and adjust alot of problems many under warranty.
@@stever.7658 I would not waste my time taking that guitar anywhere except the city dump. This was the second guitar that I order online and the first, an Epiphone Hummingbird Pro AE was in perfect shape when it arrived. You would think that Martin could ship a guitar at least as good as Epiphone and the Martin was 5 times more expensive. Never again
i will not pay that much for ANY Mexican guitar. i think all the Mexican guitars are good, BUT, They are STILL not the Nazareth, PA guitars and Martin is overpricing them. I am a Martin owner and a fan. These, as good as they are are not worth the price to me. AND they will not make a lefty, even the new CS-SC with solid wood. Not haven't made a lefty in the SC series since it's inception. Yes, I am a lefty. And I still will not be gouged.
Why would you not pay that much for a Mexican Martin? Do you think they are not as well made? I have owned several Nazareth built Martins. My SC13-E which I bought over a year ago has flawless build quality and the setup and playability from new is the best of any martin I've ever owned. Stability has proved to be excellent with no adjustment to the action being needed in over a year. Furthermore the acoustic tone is probably better than any other martin I've owned. That includes 000-16, 000-15, 000-28, D-15, D-1. Although laminate back and sides, the guitar has matured and has an impressive bass response for the size of the body. A friend has the special edition and within a few months, the same thing has happened with the guitar developing an impressive bass response. I have upgraded the pickup to a Baggs anthem system. Value wise I think it is a great guitar!
Yeah, plugged in they sound unpleasant to my ears. Almost plasticky. Do you any acoustic guitar that sounds "acoustic" , the raw wood sound when plugged in as well?
Both these guitars Chinese made?..You can definitely here buzzing on the model 10 and the 13...way too much $$$...better options available...cheaper...and not Chinese made
@@AlamoMusic I stand corrected..but not much difference..if I'm gonna pay over $1500...It will Japan craftmanship...either Takamine 341sc/dx. Or any or Yamaha... red label which sound 10x better
Or get a custom made Dowina with your chosen woods in Slovakia, by a Master luthier. All Solid woods. The laminated B&S that sounds also amazing, is half price of this Martin that is also laminated.
Because you play with such a muffled flesh pick and play so inconsistently with that style it is very hard to make a comparison. They both sound muffled.
