And this award is before Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, Hugo and Wolf of Wall Street coming out!!! Probably the best director of all time!!!!!!
@Anthony Salerno Gangs Of New York, The Aviator and The Irishman are the best ones imo after the AFI achievement award. The Departed, after all, was a remake and The Wolf Of Wall Street is what it is just thanks to DiCaprio’s terrific performance.
Martin Scorsese is greatest person that Cinema has produced in last 50 years or so. He formed Film Foundation with other eminent Film directors of Hollywood and was responsible for preserving, reproducing some of the finest, yet forgotten films across the earth.
Dicaprio evolved as an actor is only due to association with Scorsese. Scorsese literally guided from Romantic boy (Titanic, Catch me if you can) to winning Oscar in The Revenant
Leo was a brilliant actor long before he met Scorsese. “Growing Pains,” “This Boy’s Life,” “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” “The Basketball Diaries,” and “Marvin’s Room.”
@@largervoid1708 The OG post here said Scorsese’s presence was “literally” the “only reason” Leo did what any good actor does (gets better as they go from childhood to adulthood). Nonsense. Have you ever seen his performance in “This Boy’s Life?” He was 17 when he filmed that. “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” He had just turned 18 when they filmed that. One of the best performances I’ve seen of anybody, kid or adult.
@@margarinetaintedgreen8140 Don´t forget "basketball diaries" his acting as a junkie was FANTASTIC... but in the end he still had to mature and Scorsese was a part of his process.... OG has his opinion, I have mine and you have yours....
The night when Martin Scorsese accepted the AFI lifetime achievement award he accepted it from Gregory Peck. The night Robert DeNiro accepted the same award from Scorsese, Gregory Peck died that same day. The universe works in mysterious ways.
At the end of movie in Saving Private Ryan, there's scene of Tom Hanks dying, where Spielberg made use of silence to bring out emotions. This was inspired from Scorsese, who since Taxi Driver, uses silence at Important moments of movie to enhance scene emotions
It's not about money. Spielberg, Lucas, Cameroon has given Money Spinning movies. But Scorsese has given us films which are Encyclopedia for every aspiring moviemaker
What a class act. Turns a personal triumph in an institutional Sacrament. A true Priest in the best sense. Scorsese is a Film SAINT. God bless this man.
He was not only humble, he revealed an extraordinary nobility of soul. Of course he is an artist, and as an artist he is never really satisfied with his work. The horizon towards which he reaches is always beyond his grasp. But in this speech, this diminutive man demonstrated that he is truly a giant. Amazing.
In the way he walks to receive this great award I could see a shy man overwhelmed by an importan moment in his life. He is a sensitive and humble director.
He's certainly up there with our great Anerican directors. Also, Orson Welles, John Huston, Robert Altman, Francis Ford Coppola, Sidney Lumet, Martin Ritt, Woody Allen, to name a few.
a legend and i completely agree with him about film preservation as the films of the past should be protected and saved in any way possible so that those masterpieces will live forever
Every actor who associated with Scorsese, has evolved into better actors. There is no other better Master for acting compared to Scorsese. Jodie Foster (The Silence of Lambs etc ), Joe Pesci (Home alone etc), Ray Liotta, William Defoe (Spiderman 1 etc), Harvey Keitel (Pulp Fiction etc), Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon, Daniel Day Lewis, Mark Ruffalo are some of gems who polished performances after associating with Scorsese
I am marty's cousin, and i live in rochester. He donated a large collection of movie master copies to the george eastman house for eternal preservation. he should have gotten many more awards for his own movies himself. Raging Bull is the best movie of the 80s decade alone.
i love that the great ones that get this award, like scorsese, keep making masterpiece long after they get the award. soon theyll have to give him a second
@ElderSword Bob is a short name that's simply given to those named Robert....I don't know how that came to be....but it just is. Marty is a close friend with DeNiro.....so he calls him Bob.
Is there any way to watch this whole award show? Or does anyone know where to find the movie montage they cut out right before Scorsese walks up to accept? No idea why they cut that out.
De niro 's Great Performances have been solely associated with Scorsese. Outside Martin, Bob given only few great performances such as Heat, Silver Linings Play book, Midnight Runaway.
