Really is incredible, watched it yesterday and I think I'll be thinking about it for a long time, maybe longer than any other film I've seen before. Shame so few people actually saw it
Silence is probably the best movie ever made about the subject of faith. Not christian, not catholic, simply about the subject of faith! There are incredibly scenes that will stay with you for the rest of your life!!
An incredible movie. I am biased, I only have respect for M. Scorsese but this film is a pure art form. It is basically impossible to make a film about faith and Christ, but this is the closest a human can possibly get.
Did anyone else notice at the end when Rodrigues was hearing Kichijiros confession that the curtain railing and string in the background of the shot formed the shape of a crucifix? I wonder if that was deliberate or not.
Definitely intentional, I think its meant as a way to play with our subconscious and it also symbolizes Rodriguez acting as a Padre for one last time as he hears God's voice
The complicated layers of this film must be carefully examined in order to appreciate it fully. If you’re looking to be religiously inspired from it, you must earn it, not be spoon-fed. Yes, climbing a mountain is hard work, even deadly, but the view at the top and feeling of accomplishment is unmatched. That’s the brilliant message of “Silence” (and enlightenment in general). I think Scorsese is offering difficult answers to what makes us Human in all of his films. Silence was almost comical to me at first. The bumbling priests, the odd behavior of the Japanese Christians and the inquisitor’s strange attitude. It was confusing-on purpose. Things changed as the film moved forward, and clarity of the situation showed survival is the only way we can continue with our ideas, so we must do what we must to protect our deepest self. I was totally impressed at the perspective this film gave to me as non-religious and who has taken a lifetime interest in Japan. That is what an artist can do, and Scorsese is one of the greatest.
This is sad. Hes slowing down. Where is that chirpy animated genius who talks as if there are too many thoughts in his head and he's struggling to get them out? I hope he stays on form for a little while longer
@@guileniam he's just speaking like that because of the nature of what he is saying and the intimate environment in the interview, look at interviews from either wolf of wall street or the irishman and you'll see he still has that energy
Mr Scorsese, would you treat well somebody who throws a cucaracha on you when you are praying the rosary? I would excpect that from an atheist, but would you?
a bit late here but the film wasn't trying to change any doctrine, it was just showing a very true part of life, and through its cruelty ends up exploring the true nature of faith. it's not against it, just showing something that actually happens
Martin Scorsese has a real problem with Jesus Christ . He is loocking for the conversion but he deeply is not convincent. He prefers to talk about the evil instead to tell about the true. The same problem is with the last temptation .
