@@TheNaturalPatHarris I mean, the story around them is sad, but she was around before he was really famous. And they were married I think for 36 years and she died from ovarian cancer. Even 10 years later cause she died back in 2010 he still hasn’t remarried or from the public hasn’t really redated anyone.
Was there ever a better talkshow guest than Martin Short? He's the epitome of an actor/comedian who never needs a script (yes, I know some of that was rehearsed).
You cannot be spontaneously funnier than that. Seriously. Robin Williams was a great improviser, Russell Brand, Craig Fergusson and Graham Norton are great too in coming up with shit on the spot, but Martin is the nº 1, because he comes up with the funniest shit and delivers it as if it was rehearsed.
@@paulj0557tonehead Martin Short is like Don Rickles. Unless you come up with the perfect format, both are better when they are playing off of someone else.
It's not spontaneous. He works all this out before he comes on the show. Usually the host and the guest go over the talking points. It is rehearsed though he will ad lib a bit.
@@watchman1178 What are you talking about? If it's calling out all the Confederate racists and other antisocial creeps then they deserve all the bashing that they're given.
This country was a happier place where music, dancing and humor were shared. Then the effects of the divisive Repubs like Rove, Koch brothers and other schmucks started to kick in
I really think Jimmy Fallon was influenced by Martin not just as an impressionist/visual contortionist but also marty did this thing where he talked through 'thin lips' and fallon does that too at 7:28. pure fallon.
My inspiration for how became me, how I've handled life through sarcasm and humor came from two people. Don rickles and Marti short and I know how funny I am but without those two people being there on letterman, on sctv, SNL, Carson.. I wouldn't be here and I wouldn't be me. The quickest response to anything, anything, Martin Short.
im so glad i saw this comment because i am totally going to use it in a book i am writing a book on how the anonymity if social media attracts anti-social people. the premise is that the anonymity of social media allows anti-social people to engage in misanthropic behaviors without the consequences of behaving like that in person. misanthropic people hate naturally charming and engaging people like martin short and try to explain away their social skills by attributing it so some dysfunction like drug use. Frank Grossi just because you cant be as witty, charming and interesting as Martin Short without the aid of drugs does not mean Martin Short cant. Martin Short has been consistently hilarious, dynamic and engaging and delighting audiences of millions for more than 3 decades even AFTER the tragic death of his wife. that is nothing short of legendary. what have YOU done?
Frankly, I think commenters here are a little confused about what makes Marty so affable and funny. He's not, especially, a "great improviser," as some would state (although he is not without considerable ability in that regard), and he is not a host persona as opposed to a guest. A lot of what he says and does is obviously rehearsed and repeated often. The key is that he makes it seem like it's not. Plus, it's so damned endearing that you not only "don't mind" his repeated schtick, you love it. Why? Partly because the man has more charm than almost anyone you can think of. Witness his talk show guest performance entrances. Almost always the same. And yet, it's almost always charming, unlike most other comedians. Contrast him with the other great comedian (and better actor) Billy Crystal. Crystal is a major intellect, an actor and a superior improvisor. Do I LIKE Billy better than Marty? No, not really. I love them both, almost equally. You know, like you do your kids.
She hadn't come out of the closet yet. She was still trying to make people think she was straight. Same reason why she had that phony bit going about having a crush on Tom Cruise.
@@iadorenewyork1 How would you know if they do or not? Regardless, this was nothing more than a publicity stunt. That doesn't make Dusty Springfield a bad person, but this was nothing but a PR gimmick.
