When I was a little girl, I used to listen to this song almost everyday when I was in my abusive home. I came back to listen to it in 2019 now that my step dad was sent off to jail and my home is now full of love. I’m almost finished high school and have so many opportunities lined up, but when I was a kid I didn’t even think I’d have the opportunity to live. So grateful for how things turned out.

One of the scariest things right now about the shelter in place orders for COVID-19 is that kids are stuck in these houses now and parents who already had abusive tendencies are experiencing more stresses now. I worry that a lot of kids won’t make it through this. If you have any suspicion someone is at risk, say something and do something.

You NEVER disregard a vulnerable person in an abusive situation. Ever. That's a rule for all of humanity.

I am a metal head through and through. This song breaks anyone, BE BETTER. No child deserves this. Love your kids and protect them and even if its not your own PROTECT THE CHILDREN.

This thread of all who have suffered abuse in our childhoods but all finding solace in this song is so beautiful to me. My heart hurts for the pain you guys endured but I am so happy you all survived and get to have 4:08 minutes where you feel seen, heard, and loved. It’s not an easy life, but these small moments where we get to acknowledge and comfort our little selves are so profound. Get your healing anyway you can and love yourself for what you survived. I hope when you hear this song, millions of others are feeling what you are and you are not alone. I love you.

I was this child and I survived. A lot of people who suffered this pain then go on and do it to their children. Break the cycle and be better. Always an amazing song. Such a powerful voice and message.

This may be an older song but it still has a very clear message. CHILDREN SHOULD BE PROTECTED! DON'T LOOK THE OTHER WAY, get involved! NO child deserves to die like this.

Heard this when I was kid and cried for the little girl, Now I have 2 kids of my own and it just broke my heart. So many emotions ran through my body I had to go hold my babies 😢

I remember seeing this music video on CMT as a small kid, and knowing it was sad, but not fully understanding. My mom was watching with me, and when I asked her about it, she had a strange reaction and wouldn't talk about it. We were at my grandparents house. Years later, I learned my mom lived the life of the girl in the song, abused at the hands of my awful grandmother. Nobody would help her or say anything, all too concerned with minding their own business. I'm glad they showed a woman as the abuser in this video, it's not acknowledged enough that women can be cruel and abusive too. I've decided to become an adoptive/foster parent, and help kids who've lived through these situations. If I can keep even one child from living through what my mother did, it will all be worth it.

I had younger children when this video first came out. I cried thinking about how innocent children are. I now have 3 little granddaughters and I still cry hearing this song.

"Sometimes she wishes she was never born". I felt this. I remember being a child and hearing this song for the first time. Knowing I am a concrete angel. I had abusive dad who never showed me love. I have a permanent bruise on my arm, people always ask if its my birth mark. No its my angel spot, my concrete angel. To everyone saying there is no such thing as a permanent bruise, thank you. I did not know the medical term.. I do not understand why the fuck it bothers you all so much about this comment. I wrote something in confidence about myself, I do not need someone from anywhere in the world to tell me what happened to me. I felt connected to the song, and that was the whole point. Did your parents not teach you speak if you're spoken to???

I love how the song focused on the love that was brought to her. Great job. Despite what happened the one thing she was seeking was love and she found it in her neighbor. The little boy truly demonstrated to be a servant of the Almighty.

I wish I hadn't missed this in the early '90s. McBride seems to do a great job on these songs that deal with such serious subject matters.

All these years later and I still can't handle this song. It is at once strikingly beautiful and heartbreaking. I was not a child of abuse but lost 2 friends at a young age to abusive relatives. The punishment is never enough. NEVER.

A friend of mine died young. She drowned when she was 19, and at her funeral they played a recording of her singing this song as a child. There isn’t a word for the kind of pain I felt.

This and Independence Day live in concert are a WILD experience. Not a single dry eye in the arena EXCEPT for Martina. I don't know how she does it. She also has one of the most impressive vocals I've had the privilege of hearing live. ❤❤❤❤

Terribly powerful and sad. Having survived this type of childhood I promised myself to NEVER be the parent I had! After watching this I dried my eyes and Immediately went and hugged my 7 year old daughter. She will Never know this kind of life. Wish we could protect them all.... 😔😥

2024 im 29 this year, i lived this life, every night for the first 12 years of my life and it only got worse after that. I always listened to this song and would pray that would happen to me, so my suffering would end. it never did. There are still children living this life and we sit idle doing nothing to save them.

I'm 15 and was abused physically and mentally from birth to 7 years old by my mom older brother and sister I then went to live with my dad but he passed away on August 29,2014 now I'm living with my aunt I miss my dad dearly he was my everything my world I would have died for him if I could of but the stupid hospital neglected him there were over 650 people who came to his funeral that's how loved he was he was the best man in the world no one can ever take his place :( I love and miss you daddy 3/16/1959-8/29/2014

Why was I so obsessed with this song and music video at age 9?

This song as a mother of a daughter just hits even deeper man. I’ve always never been able to listen without crying but now it’s just too much. I’ve always believed some songs we have to force ourselves to listen to though if it’s difficult for us to hear just imagine how difficult it was to endure! This will forever be the hardest song and most powerful for me to listen too. The visuals paired with audio just broke my soul years ago when I first heard and saw it and it continues to have the same impact as that first viewing to me. Such a beautiful song on every level!

thank you God for my life , I almost became a concrete angel at a very young age as well , until you came along and took me away from that life that was so cruel to me for 9 yrs , and I pray one day that horrible monster who took my childhood will have to answer to you ... I'm 44 yrs old now it's still hard sometimes , but I will never forget you Lord . or will I ever forget what you have done for me .... Martina has already topped Reba in the "Heartbreaker" battle, I never thought anything would beat Watcha Gonna Do About Me by Reba, then up comes Martina with Independence Day, Gods Will and Concrete Angel. The first two got the eyes watering, Concrete Angel is a different story, I almost cried a swimming pool. I didn't know a song could stir the emotions the way it did. Between this and High On You by Survivor it has knocked my former second favourite down to fourth, I don't think this or anything will ever beat my number one The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter by Reba McEntire, its way ahead and nothing is closing in. Martina is closing in on Reba for top female and outright favourite, Jimi Jamison, is snapping at the heels of Rod Stewart for favourite male singer, Jimi and Survivor have already taken top lead vocalist and top band from Jon Bon Jovi and Bon Jovi, it looks like 5 of my 6 favourites could have changed in 6 weeks of curiousity. I thought Reba had it nailed on for life but Martina did exactly the same as Reba, as a Brit I hadn't even heard of her, then comes Michelle Wright "Safe In The Arms Of Love" liked the song so I looked further into it found 2 covers of it first by Irish singer Lisa Stanley and the other Martina McBride, I got curious found Independence Day and the rest is history. If thi keeps going I think Martina will have it by the end of August, less than 3 MONTHS of first hearing Independence Day she is on the verge of topping a 28 YEAR favourite. Martina has just blown me away

As a dad of a young daughter this just breaks my heart. I wanted to cry by the end. The thought of any child that isn’t loved by at least one parent just hurts my soul.

As a survivor of child abuse this hits me hard. I was luckier than my littlest brother who is now a concrete angel as well. RIP

My childhood was filled with abuse and beatings . I could never imagine doing this to my loving beautiful children . Love always wins. Your kids WILL remember what you do and how you show your love to them . Love them , kiss them , hug them and tell them every day how much you love them .

My mum sent me this song when I left home at 16 to live with my boyfriend aged 20... little did I know that this song would give me the strength to pull away from 8 months of physical, verbal and mental abuse every day I was there. My mothers biggest fear was the call she would get to tell her that her daughter had been killed by her abuser... this song breaks my heart and I sympathize with all children, men and women who are going through or have been through abuse 💜

I was a child abuser by my father because I was deaf. I had courage enough to leave him when I was 16 years old after I learned about this song. I have always sing this song in American Sign Language in my whole life and I gave a perform to the audience last summer. Martina McBride saved my life, so thank you.

Remember listening to this song on repeat as a child, because of the abuse I went through. I just connected with the lyrics. Back then I always saw the lines "but her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved" as she flew to heaven. But as an adult those words have gotten another meaning to me. I wanted more out of life, I had ambitions.. and those things definitely let me to where I am today. With a man who loves me and cares for me❤ Still trying to heal from my childhood traumas, but I'm getting there 🥰

Just found out that I had cancer I'm 53 years old a mother of two children that are grown and gone and two grandchildren. Both of my parents died of cancer 64 and 65. I listen to this song all the time it gives me hope and prayer. Don't know if I'll be here six months later from now but if my children see this on here I'll know that I love this song and I love them
