Marty's improvisations are better than most guitar player's written stuff..marty is a titan of guitar..there is no one like him..he can play with emotion to give u the chills and can shred to melt ur face off...he is my favorite guitar player
You say it in a way as if Kirk or Slash were better than him because they're trash compared to Marty, He is better than both of them combined in every single way possible not by opinion either, It's a fact.
He is not a fan of Jimi Hendrix... but it did not stop him to peform beautifully this song. Clap clap calp... Marty, you are a very open mind and great guitarist.
I can hear Hendrix applauding from his grave....... Marty is the Most melodic player ever.Period. He introduces a new melody every 1/2 a second...and its always a great one!

while anyone can admit there are 1000 players more technical and faster... 99.999% of them couldn't touch him in soulful playing or his ability to turn the exotic scales into pure melodic sensation!

so many styles in one, he keeps switching and he never ceases to amaze me. all his solos are so melodic, take tornado of souls for example....this guy can play!

Marty is a guitarist who plays with more melody and feeling then technicality. His playing is very fluint. This is improvised. Which most of his solos are. His sense of melody is amazing. He just follows the chord progression. And I love Hendrix but later down the line it was said that Hendrix did know music theory. Regardless you can't compare to the original but this comes close.
Marty mastered every aspect of shred by the time he was 16. At this ages hes at the point of development most guitarists will never reach in a lifetime. Its not that he can't play fast, hes just better than that.
Marty is phenomenal player. His unique note choices and scale choices are what make him a awesome guitarist. His sense of melody is what makes him so unique. He doesn't play to sound "cool".
There is a difference between improvising off camera several times to come up with your final pieced together version of a rendition and improvising something completely fresh for the 1st time live on camera (which he most certainly didn't do here) Friedman is my favorite guitarist though.

it doesn't matter how you hold your damn pick or how you use your fretting hand as long as you can play decently enough, marty is a great guitarist and he shouldn't be critized by a bunch of ignorants who believe that there is only one way to play guitar.
lol. It doesn't matter. It's the soul that is put into the song. You can hear it in Marty's playing. He intensely loves that song. And loves playing it. That's all that matters. If you can hear the soul in one's music you don't need anything else.
It's always so interesting to see people take the time to post criticisms of Marty when he's trying to play his heart out for everybody. SRV did Little Wing the best and was IMO the best blues guitarist ever, but unless you find a vid of him acing Peace Sells...Who Buying, maybe you should just appreciate Marty for being awesome and down to earth.
Hey!... I used to have this video back in the day. I still remember when Marty and Mitch are walking down the street at the end of the video and some guy turns around towards the camera and waves, and Marty says, "We got fans everywhere".
I love how people say that speed can't be soulful... are none of you listening to this? You can do your pentatonics all day and your bends, but that doesn't make a solo meaningful, it just means you're an amatuer.
the reson he can go fast and CLEAN with that picking style is because THAT particuler picking style brings your pic more parralel with the string, therefore less scratching noise, ps this is like my fave vids of him... he make this song(little wing) the most beutifull thing in the world
The most important thing Marty shows us is that speed is only PART of the guitar playing. The melodies, the music, is the most important. With videos like this he slaps the face of those "shredders" all around, who only want to play fast and sound all like crap videogames.
