Marty Friedman left Megadeth because he said he liked to paint with yellow and purple instead on the same bullet grey. Jason Becker was like the perfect counterpart for his potential in my opinion.

Marty is just such a humble and down to earth dude. Most guitar players would get jealous if another guitar player would 1-up all the time. But Marty wasn't jealous at all. He embraced it and ended up teaming with Jason to make some amazing material. The two are just so amazing.

Maturity and comprehension, some of the most important things you'll need for being a great musician, knowing when to bow down and play along some magnificent guitarrist, or keyboardist, or even drummer or bassist is the best moment ever in a rehearsel or even a record, playing along, challenging, having fun and loving music as it always should and always will be.

I like Paul Gilbert's style a lot. There are some guitarists out there that it seems like they aren't flexible. Marty kind of gave me the inspiration to go after barebones guitar theory. It's confusing how to be individual when there are so many good guitar players.

It's rather easy for pros to 1-up each other because they have so different approaches to music. Why do you think it always sounds different when guitarists cover each other? It's because it's easy for them to add something to the original idea often making it even cooler than it was before. Not always though but you get my point.

@Merioc2k3 Guess it depends on your definition of a "great" guitarplayer. My definition is someone who has a personal and recognizable style, great vibrato, outstanding melodic sense, as well as great lefthand and righthand technique and speed. Malmsteen has all those things. Batio only has technique and speed.

@mgdth502 You right, theory or not it's still music. Theory is no different than having good technique on your instrument, it's just a tool for you to use to express yourself. Actually if you know your way around the fretboard you're already using some theory. I think people are confused and think just because you know theory you'd automatically write master pieces. You still have to be creative, it's just a tool. You may be using it with out even realizing it, like Diatonic Theory.

@mgdth502 While you're trying to finding notes you want, I'd already know which ones I want and use them the way I'd like. The only thing that will make it sound robotic would be yourself. It only takes a second to throw in a different note yes, but with in that second a person with knowledge could create a complete musical phrase while you're trying to think where else could you go after that one note that may or may not be a pleasant one or even what you're looking for.

@mgdth502 Music theory is more of a way of understanding how to and what makes music. Sure you can use your ears and there is nothing wrong with that at all, but what could take you hours to figure out you made a simple I-IV-V7 progression could of taken you a minute of your time and not only that, but you'd know what would and wouldn't work over those progressions instead of fishing for notes. You could also understand musicians alot better, making you a well rounded player/musician

@thegreatgarry : Was is the word i think you're looking for here Maybe he was but mostly different, with a higher degree of technique. Yngwie was an influence of Jasons and as such paved the way, moved the posts and Jason took it and ran, moved on technically. Their styles are so different though, Jason was more progressive, more metal and less classical than Yngwie so they're not that easily comparable. Technique on its own isn't that interesting though but Jason was more than that.

Also, Rhoads was nowhere NEAR as technical as Yngwie, though he wasn't the first guy to play that fast. Also, why is neoclassical playing "bullshit" yet you're commenting on a Jason Becker video?
