Because Amp effects are very basic and normally you can't use more than 1 at a time. With a pedalboard you can use, mix and have much more of each sound or tone of effect.

John Whitehurst fulltone fulldrive 2 is a good alternative. It has a comp cut mode for clean boosts, a vintage mode for more gainy OD, or a mid option. And there’s a boost pedal which beefs everything up A LOT. I highly recommend, it’s my favorite pedal I own by far

This is kinda late but someone does a patch cable test with 73 different cables. Mine are middle of the pack. EBS Goldflat cables. It's a very good test video.

@@daviday87 The reason I went with EBS is cause I found this in a mom and pop store and bought 1. Checked it out at home and was really sold. Then found on Ebay a seller willing to make deals based on quantity to help keep the price down per say. Ya I got big Lots of each size but I'm happy with my many purchases. I have extras of each size stored away. Even tried a couple others brands but nothing feels right or works out as good as the EBS cables on my board. Almost 3 yrs and no problems at all on any EBS cables YET. I even nicked a cable with a knife. Just lightly melted electric tape on cut and haven't had any problem with that 1 either surprisingly.

Compressor pedals can be very subtle, often difficult to demonstrate on videos. Took me a while to work out how to set it and what it was actually doing. When you set it right it can level out dynamics, that can be useful for strumming and is especially good for hybrid or fingerstyle picking (which can sometimes result in very uneven volumes/spikes). Need to get the balance right, too much compression deadens the dynamics. They can also add sustain and warmth. You know it's set right when you switch it off...that's when you realise what it has been doing.
