During the years of communism, priests, monks, and faithful believers endured great suffering in communist prisons. They experienced hunger, illness, and beatings. Because they did not renounce their faith and even managed to spiritually uplift their fellow prisoners, some of them were martyred. Recently, the Romanian Orthodox Church has canonized Fr.
