Sorry for the lack of videos the past week. My focus is still to upload highlights and games that are actually good, over mediocre ones. Maru is probably the best defensive terran ever. Time after time he is tremendously outmined by his zerg opponent but takes incredible trades vs them. But I am concerned for the match up if the best zerg players' best option is just to a-click a death ball and hope they break the line.
The matchup is fine. Maru is the only Terran with a lategame that looks anywhere this strong, and even the other top Zergs have plenty of options to dispatch him in the early-midgame.
@@Pzychosis Bro. Ghosts are Terrans only answer to late game Zerg. They're not too strong, you're watching an A tier Zerg run into a brick wall of an S tier Terran. If Solar just focused on denying Maru ever getting a 6th instead of spending thousands of gas on killing ONE base while he has the entire map to mine out then he'd likely win. Zerg has the incredible benefit where a insane bank is able to be spent and you can be maxed out almost instantly while Terran has to build everything based on production. If Solar mines the entire map, waits for maru to kill him, he could remake his army 10 times more and faster than Maru can.
@@DrCaesars Solar also had plenty of chances to make an entrenched counter-siege position (make some spine and spore crawlers with that massive creep spread to cover a ball of Brood Lords) yet for some reason kept on throwing expensive Baneling masses despite the move not working several times in a row.
Rules of warfare: 1. Never invade Russia during the winter. 2. Never get into a land war in Afghanistan. 3. Never try to attack Maru's entrenched bases.
Watching Maru play is so satisfying. Even when he loses, he goes out with a spectacular bang. Watching him hold off waves of Zerg attacks in game 1 was insane. You can never count that man out with his impeccable micro.
Really not sure why Solar didn’t replace a few of the ultras with vipers in game 1. Sure, the ghosts snipe ‘‘em but being able to yoink 2-4 tanks or thors so the lings and banes have a way easier time is the optimal play, right? I’m not the only who thinks that am I?
I think it works really well on ladder, but what solar and other zergs are thinking is that snipe outranges abduct and terran prolly kills vipers after the first abduct. ( But like if you're throwing banes like its nothing then its it was probably worth it tbh.)
To be fair anything was worth trying than mass banes once the initial bane runby didnt work out Solar kept trading too inefficiently and was way too impatient with taking engagements, didnt really pressure other bases as well and eventually Maru just outtraded Solar’s 8 base advantage
Its not really a rivalry when 1 guy (Maru) keep beating the other most of the time. It was so bad that Solar literally asked others to not pick him into Maru group when there was still the GSL group nomination.
8:00 Feels like Solar should just attack the bottom part of the map where there probably are way less units for Maru there. Oh Tastosis actually mentions it haha Game 2 was so well played by Maru
The thing is Maru has 3 Sensor tower and always able to keep track of the movement of the Zerg army on the map and making the right movement to match that of the Zerg, plus he got lots of scan to check on whenever he want to. Yeah, Solar could have attack elsewhere, but ultimately his micro wasnt good enough.
@@tianhaopeif1109 It's more suicide to attack the place where Maru's entire army exists than to attack a place with only two planetaries and probably no ghost there.
Ok, Listen I completely agree with the point that SC is hard and "have you tried doing what the best player in the world does?" isn't helpful, but sometimes a pro player will see that the enemy has 15 ghosts and then START making Broodlords. And....am I the crazy one here? Cause they got absolutely shredded in their first fight.
He very nearly won, like they were saying, I think that's where his head was at. Maru is so good at soaking damage and keeping up his micro in long skirmishes, though, he barely squeaked through.
@@missbelled6700 and Maru didn't spend all his money, so solar thought, he might be at the edge of killing. But Maru is great at baiting the Zerg with a mineral floating technique, that only really high skilled players can do. Most people, that do float minerals, do float them, because they mess up their macro. Also you dont wanna be floating, if you are on the aggressive side.
I think he felt that maru was so efficient for so long, and had so many ghosts (one of the most efficient units in the game, and one which bassically forces solar into a ling bane style due them sniping all his ultras and broods) that solar didn't think he was capable of breaking maru before he was bassically mined out.
We done know how much mining Solar got left on his 8 base, remember he lost like 75k of resource up to that point, even if he mined out all 8 of his bases, he could only get around 115k of resource, and aroud 20-25k of that already spent on the infrastructure (building and upgrade), that mean Solar only got like 15k of resource left un-mined at the very most, that means hes almost broke.
@@kenjiyamamoto423 he got time to build another army before losing too much. Just sac a base and go for some ling run by to buy time. He still controls many mineral locations while terran just started getting a little bit more mining going, He also just finished a bunch of lings and an ultra. 1k income lead is no joke
Solar, maybe just ....try something different? He had a huge bank advantage, he wasn't trying to do anything else except smash through the front door. Send harassments at the terran at all parts of the front line, spread them out.
@@missbelled6700 I didn't say "just make better decisions" I specifically suggested some alternatives. It's clear that going through the front door wasn't working and with each attack he weakened his position. Solar played poorly here.
I think solar left a little too early in the first game. Could have attempted counter attacks to bottom bases, then following up with attacks on the too, I think he had the economy for it
Solar just ragequit that first game XD He was absolutely not dead... tho with how frustrating that game must have been, I can understand him quitting to save some of his hair.
you dont understand, he has no lurkers , good amount of broodlord , maru already has thor ghost and mech army , you think its easy to tackle them without lurkers?and do you think its some kind of diamond league ladders where opponent will wait you tech up and upgrade abit before decides to attack you?
Maru already started to take control of the game, and he will not let Solar mine that top left base anymore, so Solar will be broke in the next 2-3 minutes after that if he couldnt get another base. I think most of his bases was mining out.
@@teeee8534 Lurker is the absolute WORST unit to fight into that Terran army, especially control by Maru. It maybe counter-intuitive but the best units to smash that army is actually LingBaneHydra imo.
I don't understand why Solar GG'd that game. Maru was being out resourced and all Solar had to do was get a squad to hit the ghosts from the rear and the defense would be broken.
Seriously, they can almost outrun banelings, face-tank them if do get close enough, can easily gun down any zergling surround, and will kill any larger unit from 10 range away
you're right. if Solar maxes out 200/200 with sososososososo many banelings, he can destruct all of things even if there are 2 planetary fortresses like Maru made
@@rexekim3397 The thing is, Maru already got 3 Sensor Towers up, so he will know when Solar try to get the army to that lower base and will move his defense accordingly. The issue with fighting Maru turtle defense is that, he seems to have enough units EVERYWHERE, which is not the case but he just match the movement of the opponent army so well. But yeah, you will have to attack multiple locations at once and hope that Maru will slip up somehow.
@@tigera6 yes, I also think Solar didn't want to draw attention to the bottom right as he was "illegally" stealing from what should be Terran base in split map scenario. If he lost a fight near that area, Maru would just clean it in an instant.
Who the hell are these caster? That was one hell of a fight in match, and these casters were talking about random shit. One job, casters cast what the players are doing, and especially when thee fight was that intense.
Maru just showing if you don't do anything and just go full defence you can't win against terran no other race can do what terran dose or break it so boring and unbalance
Solar is farrrrr from being the best Zerg in the world. Terrible commentary on balance using this match up. Maru and Clem go back and forth being considered the best Terrans so it wasn't a very equal match up, really
Are you happy to watch a full NBA game, or are you happy to watch a game recap? I feel the same way when I'm watching a game, and all of a sudden, you jump in a few minutes later to show us another "battle". Please stop doing that.
