Clarification: 8:00 You dont exhaust Iron-Man when using the Tony Stark action, you exhaust him if you use the attack/thwart/def

Thanks so much for this video!! Love you guys. I just read the rules tonight... I think you might have missed the auto drop of 2 scheme the villain does every round before attacking/scheming. His scheme should have been much scarier this play. All in all great video!!

Great job as always: it is a pleasure to watch your playthroughs. You are not only very comprehensible but simply nice couple. And I really envy you because we still are waiting for this game to be available. I feel this will be a really big hit for FFG and for good reason. They are clearly learning from their previous designs and using that knowledge to build even better games. So thx again and have fun with Marvel Champions. I certainly will :)

Thanks for sharing! As many have mentioned, I'm excited about this game. I'm already a LOTR LCG fan. I think FFG has taken that and Arkham, learned from them, then added some great mechanics to this game. I think it will be extremely popular.

Yes! I was so happy to see this pop up in my alerts. I'm a huge fan of Marvel, of Fantasy Flight Games and of their Living Card Games. Didn't know this is coming out so soon. Can't wait to watch your video and then buy it and play it myself. I love the Arkham Horror version they presently have. Curious to see if this plays like that game.

BTW, you don't exhaust to do the Futurist action. You only exhaust when you thwart, attack or recover.

One thing mentioned with these games and sentinels of the multiverse specifically is keeping track of the number. My group has all of sentinels with multiple copies and the fan sets so needless to say we play it a lot but what helped keep track of it all is dice. D tens (numbered) for the hit points and pip dice for the pluses and negatives to damage. I think this will help with marvel champions as well to make the numbers more visable.

At 50 minutes you used stark tower when in hero form but it's only allowed during alter ego form and you had already changed form that turn.

At 25:15 you forgot to place 1 threat per player in Phase 1 of Villain Phase due to the Scheme Acceleration field showing the +1 per person up arrow, which occurs before the Villain actual scheming due to alter egos. So really after the Villain schemes that phase, there would be 6 threat total as of 25:22.

Great playthrough, but you have to Futurist every turn to build up. The extra event card that will come eventually is minimal to the strength you can gain early.

The default actions of attack, thwart, and recover cause exhaution, but other actions don't unless they specifically say that they do. Futurist has a built in limit of once per round, but it doesn't exhaust. Edit: You also forgot to place 1 threat per player on the main scheme every villain phase past round 1.

I was counting the extra threat on my hands while I was watching... luckily I don't think it would have pushed over. But yeah, I've been watching Team Covenant play this for weeks, and the villain turns seem the hardest to manage. Add threat, make attacks/schemes, then draw encounters... if you start chatting in the attack phase or so it seems easy to feel like "Hey, we already pulled cards for this guy, right?" (the boosts) and miss something. But I'm sure we'll get used to it.

I could be wrong, but aren’t you supposed to add one threat to the main scheme at the start of each villain phase? I only saw you do that the first time.

indeed in fact, it is 2 threat per turn no matter what, and then the Villains attacks or schemes against each player, so you kind of play at a very easy level ;o)

Clarification: 16:40 You could use Tony Stark ability, then shift to Iron-Man then thwart. 26:20 Same. you could use both.

As far as the deck building aspect of it goes, I'm really happy that the "core" builds are so easy to put together. After watching a lot of people play this, they seem to migrate very organically into the higher levels of villains and start to -cut- cards they know won't be as useful (Jessica buffs with schemes... does this boss put out enough? / Do we need minion control?) and eventually people get "their deck". It doesn't ever look like Magic or Netrunner, where you have to build a deck from one or two core cards and fill the entire thing out... more like the opposite, where you start with a full deck then cull it / swap tiny pieces to tweak your favorite combination. I think this game might be the best way to teach people how to enjoy deck building games going forward.

Ben Listen Totally agree. The decks are almost made of modules you can simply swap to your need or play style. Huge plus for me as I hate deck management as you described.

Just got it yesterday, after vowing never to go down that rabbit hole and get an LCG... I have to talk my partner into playing tonight, we did have Terraforming Mars scheduled (I also got a cheap electric card shuffler so we want to test it on the TM deck :P) but I might persuade him to try out Spiderman and Captain Marvel. :D In the meantime I'll just enjoy this video and learn how to play :D I already went through the rule book and the glossary so I think I'm ready; I mostly watching these types of videos before my first play to see what the most common mistakes are and how to avoid them :) The comments other people leave are really helpful. :)

Wow! Favorite card game!? Guess it's an easy buy for me now - especially with the Marvel theme it'll be easy to get friends to want to play it! Aeon is still #1 for me though 😋 - guess we'll have to see if it gets dethroned! Great stuff as always 👍

Yes. This is why it infuriates me when I look up games being too hard and I find people are saying that the game is too easy. It's because they make mistakes like this. No insult to Ant Labs btw.

Love the review, thank you Haven’t played it my self, but didn’t you guys actually loose the game ? He had 9 threat on his evil scheme and it is a 7 limit plus one for two players. Anyhow great run thru, keep up the good work

I’m pretty sure that you can decide to defend after you draw the boost card up until you discard it. Also on that side scheme doesn’t it say 2 threat per person? Anyway I love you guys! Keep up the great work.

You are supposed to draw the boost cards face down when the villain attacks, and when you/hero have decided who to defend the attack with, that's when you flip the boost card and boost the villains cards. Wouldn't make sense to draw them face down and make you choose defenders before, if you could just change your mind afterwards.

I don't think you pull a boost card on an event card that says the "when revealed" villain "attacks" or "schemes", right? You just take damage from the natural ATK and SCH numbers, yes? That was a new one on me.

The question is if it’s worth paying $70 for a base set with what? 2 scenarios? Seems easy to beat rhino, so that leaves one scenario. I don’t see the replayability here. Beat the villain, sell the game. Why would you ever want to play this again after you beat the scenario? If you could play against each other, like mtg, that would be different. It’s an inherent problem with every co-op ever made. Playing against the game is boring. Why would you care if you win or lose? The game doesn’t care. So for more variety I have to buy the next box expansion with two more scenarios in it for another $50. No thanks.

shatnershairpiece It’s actually 3 villains with multiple side schemes and minions to mix in. You also have the hero Nemesis schemes that may or may not come into play. Then you have 5 different heroes with 4 different archetypes to mix and match. For me personally, that’s a lot of variety to hold me over for a while.

And in November for $20 will be Green Goblin with more villian cards. The core comes with Rhino, Klaw, and Ultron. There are also extra villian modules that you can add. Each villian also has expert mode as well. December will be the release of Captain America for $15.

Rhino, KLAW and Ultron all come with 3 difficultly levels. This was level 1 for Rhino, which by all accounts is the villain (and level) you use as basically an introduction when learning the game. I urge you to seek out some of the many other videos where it shows the villains at different difficulty levels. Then again, by the sounds of it this might not be your type of thing. So That's about all I'll bother nudging you to research more in depth.
