A few small corrections I noticed after finishing! Both SP//dr and Ironheart should have lower reliability. I should have mentioned that Cyclops' ability to search for the perfect card (Phoenix, alter-ego ability and Tactical Brilliance) adds to his amazing reliability. I should have talked about Clarity of Purpose being the card that truly pushes Spider-Ham up into the same tier as the hero above him. Also, when I said Spectrum draws a card when she changes form, I meant from Speed of Light. Thanks guys!

I really liked the colorized stars you used for Ms Marvel to show how her strengths change based on aspect. Many of these heroes change power-level significantly based on aspect. Spider-ham is low A or high B tier to me outside of the insane S-tier Leadership + Clarity of Purpose builds.

It’s great to see your thorough breakdown. I enjoy the tierlist throwdowns, but they are sometimes one dimensional (based on liking them, power level, etc). I enjoyed Toni’s videos a lot because of this kind of analysis.

Great video! Glad to see you making content here. This was really interesting and I like how you approached it. I often wonder on hero rankings how much aspect cards impact that. For example, how you said that Clarity of Purpose boosts Ham significantly. I tend to build my decks very thematically. So even though Prof X is always great, he is rarely with my Avengers. I know that limits the power of the decks though.

Thanks ! You actually helped me with Spectrum ;) I always tried with all my deck to play with her high stats, but as you said. Their energy form are too unpredictable to build around this. I never actually tried to just see this as a bonus. I think I'll still put 2-3 "Ready to Rumble", it works too good on her but I think you're right about her and better playing with ally or event but not stats. My favorite deck with her is an Leadership Aerial deck. Otherwise, don't you think we have seen only the tip of the iceberg about Rogue potential (like Adam Warlock) ?

Great list! I don't find anything I strongly disagree with, and where I do I think it's all down to personal preference and amount of experience with the various characters.

This is pretty much exactly what I would pick! Wonderful list! I would move black panther in A. Golden City is ridiculous, paired with the mansion. I flip him almost every turn to take advantage until he is all out go mode. The card draw is insane and his economy is nuts. I do understand his pieces make him a bit of a wild card, but it's so potent when all is out.

Iron Man is so quick and easy to set up now, there are so many Tech upgrades in Protection and Basic. Spend a few turns flipping to/from AE and after that I find I'm up to hand size of 7 by turn 3.

Great list, glad to see Storm so high. I agree she is super strong, particularly in multiplayer. I'm surprised to see Cyclops near the top. When i played him, he just didn't do much. I made my own version of the TMMX deck. I guess either my deck sucks or i was unlucky lol. I do need to try him some more though

Hi VillainTheory, thanks for sharing this comprehensive video. I can only imagine how much time went into thinking about and creating all these for the community :) Have always been a big fan of your decks! But may I also ask: do you not feel that the newer villains that have stalwart/steady have greatly undermined the effectiveness of heroes who are reliant on status? This applies to many of the characters at the top of the list: Doctor Strange, Venom, Miles, Spider Woman, even Scarlet Witch etc. With status immunity, even Doctor Strange has a hard time preventing activations. Doctor Strange used to be my favourite hero but I feel his power dipped quite significantly as I took on Venom Goblin and Magneto. In contrast, the other heroes that do noy rely on statuses much (Spider Ham, Ironheart, Storm) feel much more consistent/reliable to me. What do you think? Or perhaps, are you also basing a lot of the evaluation on some of the easier villains that do not have Steady/Stalwart? I think that could be fair since they do form the majority of villains, it's just that the more difficult ones may be more helpful in differentiating between the top tiers?

I think some of these change in solo vs. multiplayer. For example, Hulk has a soft spot in my heart, and is VASTLY better in multiplayer. On a completely other topic, I picked up NeXt Evolution yesterday, and I can't wait for you to give us a Domino deck that blows my mind.

Great video. Out of interest, you have captain marvel really high but I couldn’t find a captain marvel deck you have published. If I could be so bold, what does a 2023 villain theory captain marvel deck look like?

Now you need to do it again including fun factor. Then you could point out that the crank the handle machines that set up loads of upgrades (SP//dr, Iron X etc) are nowhere near as fun as the whacky ones - can I play 6 Hex Bolts in one turn. It's not random if you play so many that you cover every outcome. Nebula is like that too - I think her cards are incredibly efficient, and that lets you overcome the fact that they may not be quite what you wanted. Great list ie I broadly agree though I have gaps in my knowledge (Vision is so boring that I have not even played him yet). Poor Valkyrie; I would quibble that she is low readiness. She just needs a weapon & the fact that she only has Dragonfang(sic?) in her base kit makes her really, really unreliable but not unready. You need an anti-purple star for just how inconsistent she is and maybe for Hulk thwarting etc :) That makes me think of another factor "versatility"maybe or how big the difference is between their best deck and their worst. IE you really have to build for Iron Man or Hawkeye or Valkyrie while the Caps play well regardless for different reasons - Cap A has strong cards in his kit while Cap M has the economy and draw to power through. I think that also means M has a higher ceiling than A as she benefits Incrementally more from each new powerful aspect card.

I know you said in the disclaimer that you like all the heroes, but I'm really biased towards Peter Parker Spider-Man and wanted to give an argument for why I think he should be bumped up! I think Peter's hero cards/abilities are all very simple and easy for beginners, but super balanced (he has resource generation in web shooters, healing in aunt may, defense in backflip, and encounter card interrupts in enhanced spider-sense). I agree with you that his damage/thwarting cards are lacking, but I feel like those weaknesses are the most easy to fix by using allies and playing in the justice aspect compared to like Miles Morales who has a weakness that can't be easily fixed (being unable to negate encounter cards and defend from enemies that aren't stunned). Overall I agree with your Miles ranking since his ability to stunlock and economy are so good that he beats a lot of villains easier than Peter, but I think Peter should be bumped up since this is a ranking primarily for expert mode and I think Peter is stronger against the toughest villains like Ronan and probably villains like Thanos/Magneto/Venom Goblin since they have steady/stalwart. I don't know forsure since I haven't played against those villains yet but I definitely have an easier time against Ronan expert with Peter and feel like he's always underrated in tier lists! I feel that Peter Parker Spider-Man can beat all of the strongest villains in the game consistently easier than most of the heroes ranked above him. Btw this was an awesome video and very informative about all the different heroes! I really only play Peter and Miles so it was really cool to analyze every hero and see what they're good at.

I agree with you so much that I feel like early on Rogue had a lot of people saying she wasn't good because their janky Sorcerer Supreme decks weren't consistent. Her kit is so strong, I kind of think of her as baby Venom (which isn't an insult, I also think Venom is a top 5 hero), where she kind of has access to all the best things. My only wish is that she had even a minor alter ego ability. With her access to confuse and how good Mutant Education can be to recycle her powerful cards, even the most minor ability would be a major boon. I also appreciate you rating Spectrum so much higher than most people I see. I feel like she's got so much power, and you just have to go with the flow with what she offers you. My favorite runner in Android Netrunner was MaxX, who some people didn't like because she felt a little too random for them (at the beginning of each turn you would mill 2 of your cards to draw a card). My take on MaxX was that she was so inherently powerful that you just had to go with the flow of what you're given and it'll be great. I think a lot of people get frustrated when they can't do what they want with her at all times, but that feels like the balance. I feel like if you printed on her "Once per turn you can spend 1 or 2 resources to change energy form" she gets broken.

Honestly seeing scarlet witch in leadership is actually cracked. Literally the third strongest hero i have seen only behind the pig and the superior mystic strange. Haven't seen alot of magik but mystic support is honestly cracked, especially summoning spell.

Although I will say, you did my man Vision pretty dirty. BORING!?! He may not be flashy, but his versatility and the puzzle of his form swapping make him fun. Add in a way to recur Androids, an excellent ally, access to Reboot, and Phase Disruption really can come in clutch!

Strange, I thought I made a comment a few weeks ago, but I don't see it. Maybe my tablet didn't post it. Anyway, thought I ask again anyway. :) Would you be willing to share your slides by any chance? I have been looking for a rating of the heroes based on difference categories that I could print into like a booklet / sheet. That way, I could look at each hero, and it would not only help me pick a hero based on my mood but also help me deckbuild them to cover their weakness as I predominantly play true solo. If you dont plan to make it avaialbe, I understand. I Just thought I ask as I'd love the thought of such a resource! Thanks either way and this was an awesome breakdown of each hero! Nice work! :D

Explaining the extra purple star with Spider-Man on the screen and not giving it to him for survivability lol. Yes he’s my favorite hero. This is a great way to “rank” the heroes without it being a countdown of from worst to best because every hero is good on their own way.

You should've given Iron Man an extra 2 green stars for his Readiness in Protection. Repurpose makes this deck go wild.

I would like to add a new video suggestion! One of the things I'm most excited for when looking up heroes and decks are incredible synergies like Ammunition Bunker and Agent 13. Combos that make C tiers jump to B. I'd love either a long video on a couple of those, or a bunch of shorter one going over those "Cards you *Should* run on each Hero".

Unpopular opinion: The game is much more fun and interesting in multiplayer. My favorite Adam-Warlock deck revolves around high value allies and buffing/maintaining their HP via Med Team, Reinforced Suit, and discarding Protection Cards. She-Hulk, Giant Man, and Sentry as primary targets.

Shadowcat Ease of Play at 2??? She’s the most complex hero for me so far. You need an encyclopedic knowledge of the turn sequencing and player windows!

too many categories and some are redundant. card value can be easily incorporated on economy. reliability and readiness can be mixed together. it would be better if you can condense the categoties a little more so that this can be much bearable to watch

Now hot take. Venom is overrated. Imo should at best be in the lower parts of s tier or even a. I noticed he can do alot but what he does isn't that high when it comes to power scaling.
