I'm sure it's been said a million times, but your videos are a real asset for the gaming community. When I get a new game, the first thing I do is check your videos - it's even to the point where it has influenced my buying decisions - I'm a lot more likely to buy a game if you've done a video for it. I really appreciate your dedication to making it easier for people to learn and play new games - I bet there are thousands of people who love games that they would have given up on or never tried if it wasn't for your videos. You, sir, are appreciated.
Really very nice of you to say. It means a lot to know the videos have been useful, and I hope they can continue to help people enjoy their next favorite games :)
@@WatchItPlayed Every time we look at a new game my wife asks "has @watchItPlayed Reviewed it yet"? I have also bought games on your recommendation. Thanks
You teach a game like no other, Rodney! Great job getting into the nuance of Dice Throne. It's very accessible, and your explanation helps to clear up any misunderstandings people might have with the basic timing of the game. Very cool!
Great overview, as always, Rodney. Love the graphics you’re adding to your videos! Tip for new players: each hero leaflet also ranks that hero’s complexity from 1-6. Start off playing heroes with a 1 or 2 complexity. They’re just as much fun to play and just as powerful. What makes them simpler is they are straight up damage and defense. You don’t have to deal with getting token A so you can exchange two for token B or power your defense unless token C is in play which means…😵💫 This way, you can get comfortable with the game mechanics more quickly. 👍 Welcome to everyone discovering the Dice Throne family for the first time! Have fun! And “keep rolling sixes”!
Thank you for the advice! I have a 9-year-old and do you think this would be good for them? I know it says 9+, but sometimes that isn’t the case. All seasons can work together right?
Great advice. Is there a refrence of the the hero’s and complexity? I bought the 4 character box (Loki, scarlet witch, miles morales and Thor) . Miles was a 2 and Thor a 3. No complexity 1 in that box :)
I think this version of Dice Throne is more appealing to me personally because My friends will more easily understand the game because they know the heroes. It's easier to explain Black Panther's moves than, say, a Moon Elf, thanks to the movies and comics.
Curse you Rodney, I'd never even heard of Dice Throne before this video and now I've gone and pledged for the battle chest. I'd be angry with you I'd you weren't so bloody good at your job...
I think you'll be very happy. This is my favourite game! It's very accessible, great balance of luck and strategy, and it's endlessly replayable. My wife and I play it all the time.
This looks great. My wife and I don't have many people to play games with or anything, but she's kind enough to play Marvel with me, even though it isn't her favorite thing. We really like Marvel Champions. This game looks good, too. She saw your review and showed it to me. Can't wait!
Nice! Thanks for the video. I am probably going to look into getting it. I had seen dice throne in stores before, but never gave it a try. Who wouldn't want to play Marvel Battle Yahtzee?
Thanks for this video! I am only 17 years old, and loving board games already. Especially marvel champions, and terraforming mars. I like to watch video's about new games, and you explain always very clear. Thanks! Keep on going.
So helpful! Just played this for the first time with my husband and I'm sure we got a few things wrong but it was definitely less daunting after watching your video instead of trying to figure it out ourselves. We had a lot of fun :)
Great video. I hope that that's not the final production for black panther's cards. That undefenable instead of undefendable will drive me crazy. Let the know about it. Thanks for the video!
Solid video!! If you haven’t already, you should make a tips video for explaining rules! I like to start by telling new players the goal and working backwards then back forwards. Idk if that’s more confusing but that’s the way my brain works. 🤷♂️ looking forward to more of your content!
@@WatchItPlayed oh same! For some reason I wasn't expecting that combination but now that I see it, I think it gives the marvel characters a unique look while still capturing what's great about them
Thanks Rodney for all the knowledge! I got the battle chest and am playing black Widow atm. My freind and I are confused about some of her hero upgrades such as widows gauntlets ll that also have a separate ability 'covert mission'. Do you choose either ability or do you get both abilities since they are on the same card?
Hey Eric, thanks for checking out the video! I do my best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card effects/powers, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!
Quick question: I had the original Gunslinger vs Samurai pack, and although I played it a few times, I wasn’t enamored with it. I ended up trading it on BGG. However, I love the Marvel universe, and am curious if people think this might pull me in more? Thanks for any replies 👍
I can’t answer for you. I am a fan of Dice Throne. It is one of the few games in my 150+ collection that my hubs will ask to play and it’s one of my personal favorites. I will say that as a Marvel fan, I was super excited to hear about this collection of heroes and can’t wait to tear into it! (Especially since the set includes Dr. Strange and Scarlet Witch) I guess it really depends on what you wasn’t fun for you in Dice Throne. To give an extreme example, if you don’t like rolling dice, then you’re not going to enjoy Marvel Dice Throne! 😆
Rodney, Rodney, Rodney... there are few other things that get me as excited as bacon and Marvel-themed board games is one of them. I'm actually here to learn the game instead of just to hang out. Here, take all my bacon!
I think I see a mistake at 4:45. Captain Marvel's leaflet (seen in the video) doesn't say she has to spend Radiance to use it. So the Radiance token should have remained on her hero board, right?
Very good catch - an unfortunate oversight that I chose to use "that" power as an example, because, as you say, that one doesn't require spending the token to trigger it.
"When Black Partner and Miss Marvel wanted to get some time alone to train, Thor follows them and won't leave them alone." That's my thought of a good scene with these 2 characters after watching the video. Now I wish it was made into an actual Marvel comic. (It would be good for Valentine's Day.) Also, one thing I wish is that in the future, a game similar to this comes out, but you can build your own custom decks from a large pool of cards for each character, and/or a general deckbuilding-type game where you start with starting decks and dice, upgrade your deck by adding new cards and trashing weaker ones during the game, and upgrade your starting dice by buying new dice/face and trashing weaker faces/dice. I know that idea is complex for a board game, but the idea of customize decks and dice during the game might work one day (Combining Dominion and Cubitos together.) Anyway, nice video. I might look into the game myself one day to try it out. First they use general known characters, and now Marvel comes it. (By the way, can you pit Marvel characters against non-Marvel characters in Dice Throne, since I don't know if the rules mention anything about using a Marvel character with someone like Ninja from the regular set?) Maybe next, DC will join the line-up.
@@WatchItPlayed So you could play a game with Black Partner vs Ninja, for example in Dice Of Thrones, even if one's from Marvel, and one's from the regular sets?
@@WatchItPlayed So in summary, you can pit any character in Dice Thrones against other, even if they are from different franchises, like you can do Marvel vs DC, for example? And sorry for asking that question 3 times. When I first saw the video say "Marvel Dice Thrones," I was thinking that you can only pit Marvel characters with each other due to the Marvel tag, and your video didn't share any details about if when you play Marvel, it can be only be Marvel, or you can include the season sets as well. I felt like I wasted your time with that question, when the answer was "when you pit characters in dice thrones against each other, one can be Marvel, and one can be non-Marvel if you prefer."
@@danielschaublin Normally I express cross-compatibility in my videos, so I understand the confusion created by the absence of me saying anything about it in this video. The catch is that sometimes with licensed properties, there are restrictions on what can and can't be said about the product, and how it can or can't tie to other products (even if it CAN tie to other products). But I see they've added this to the FAQ on the Kickstarter page "Marvel Dice Throne is compatible with the entire Dice Throne ecosystem." - so I guess any restrictions on mentioning that have now lifted.
The combat points, you start with 2. Is it like money when you spend cp on a cards so if a card cost 1 cp, do I reduce my combat point marker from 2 to 1 or I leave the cp counter at 2?
For some very strange reason, sometimes RU-vid defaults to auto-translating something different than the original language the video id cleary in. For someone reason it "auto-translated" Korean instead of English. Once it "auto translates" one language, it doesn't allow to auto translate another. And I don't have the resources to do it manually. Very small tutorial operation here (ie. me).
I'm not sure I stated that (but I may also be misunderstanding the question - do you have a time stamp for the section you are referring to?). I usually have time stamps in my tutorials, but it takes a few days to get them up.
@@WatchItPlayed I probably am wording it weird. It's about the 12/13 minute when you're talking about defensive dice. I think I'm confused on how to proceed if someone has more than one defensive ability
@@emsully03 Sometimes you can have more than one panel on your character board that is listed as a defensive ability, when you are attacked, you pick which one of them you want to use. (this is more of a general Dice Throne system rule, I'm not sure if any of the heroes in the Marvel set will have more than one Defensive panel).
Auto-translations are done by RU-vid and it's been a long time issue that sometimes RU-vid auto-chooses random languages instead of the native language of the video. No idea why it happens.
Hey my friend and I were playing the edition with Loki and Wanda and had a question. So Wanda has an ability to “steal” a positive status effect from a character and apply it to herself. In this case lokis positive status effect is called bag of tricks, it can be applied to himself or enemy players and is resolved at the beginning of the turn. It’s resolved by rolling one dice and the number determines the outcome, if a 1 is rolled the person with the bag loses 1 cp, if a 2-5 is rolled then Loki decides between 1 of three outcomes, and if a 6 is rolled the player gains 2 cp. all the logistics aside this is about the 2-5 range. If Wanda uses her ability to apply bag of tricks, can she apply it to Loki or does she have to apply it to herself? And most importantly does Loki still determine the outcome of a 2-5 is rolled because there is no clarification that Wanda has control over bag of tricks outcome, just that she “steals the positive effect”

@@WatchItPlayed I will now that I have your tutorial to go by! I will play it tonight after I go golfing, lets tame a moment silence for the poor woodland creatures who will be dodging my errant tee shots all day!
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for.
@@WatchItPlayed It does seem like there are a couple of good modifiers which I like. Also, rolling dice makes a game exciting. Sometimes good, sometimes bad!
Figured it would get views here. Watch out people on Facebook are scamming people "selling their pledges" I was one of the unfortunate ones. I blame myself, just wanted to get the word out to be careful.
This is very newly announced, and is on kickstarter today. I don't usually cover games on kickstarter until they are releasing, but they were able to get me a copy that is 99% finalized (aside from some tokens being shaped slightly differently), so I was happy to do it, and hopefully it'll help give you some good information on whether or not you'd want to back it - or if you pick it up down the road at retail, this tutorial will still be valid.
