Yes roaring head after Sal Buscema art I agree!!! Look at any Incredible hulk comic #208 to #255 and its a wonderful Sal style and he's my favorite late 70s early 80s Hulk artist.
Me too! I haven't seen this video yet but I almost bought this whole wave but then cancelled them all from Big Bad Toy Store before they shipped which is scheduled for April and May, I somehow gave up on them as I went for higher quality seeming figures from Japan and more expensive things, and then wanted to cut these out to save a little money or re-allocate the funds to what I thought might be better overall and more pleasing. I loved the retro haircut aspects and the idea of having retro looking fashions and styles in my collection, but then I had issues with how all of them looked, even the nearness of the eyes of the Captain America masked and the bigness of the chin in images, the blue streaks and strangeness of the Iron Man face sculpt, and even the weirdness of Hulk's expressions, though I thought they also looked very cool and interesting too, they also seemed a little bit ugly to me, and most of my things aren't very ugly seeming to me, even M.O.D.O.K seems more "cute" ultimately to me haha.
You're right on the money saying the heads feel 70s! The sculptor Paul Harding based the recent Hulk, Dr. Strange, Tony Stark and Captain America heads on his art series of 'Marvel in the 70s'! You can see it on his twitter or instagram!
I'm kind of surprised that they didn't include the torn shirt with this figure, as there was a Toy Biz chase Hulk figure that came with a shirt back in the day.
We need Madman, Ravage, General Maverick, and Weapon H in this mold! To make it easy, Hasbro should just release Madman and Weapon H, but include just the heads of General Maverick and Ravage as extra pieces like they did with Shadow King and Onslaught. The General Maverick head can be put on Red Hulk, and the Ravage head can be put on Maestro.
In my opinion, this is the best Hulk made by Marvel Legends. The accessories, the painting, the head... simply loved it! I have to get mine! Thanks for the review!
So far, the 80th Green Hulk is the best so far. The 80th Grey Hulk is the second best Marvel Legend Hulk figure. Other than those, the rest are kind of lackluster to me. 'Nuff said.
What the *Beep*, $40! That’s how much it is here and usually Canada pays more than the US and UK because of the conversion rate… The price is starting to really take the fun out of collecting Marvel Legends, these are $40, and a regular wave figure are $35. Hasbro lines are not the easiest on the wallet anymore, it might be time to pay a little more for better quality lines... Great review Dave!
Wow, that is exactly what is happening to me. Hasbro's price increase has actually sent me away from Hasbro and towards more expensive things from Japan instead, since I figure (lol stupidly?) that if Hasbro is getting so expensive without improved quality, then why not go for something considered much fancier and higher class that is made much better, for a little bit more. A lot of Hasbro's work in all their lines is sometimes looking very plastic, and since I'm in Canada, the stuff is ending up around 30 or 32 CAD to 40 and 60 CAD and beyond for figures that just don't look worth the price at all. For 76 to 100 and up to 160 on the really deep end of fancier stuff, I can get a one of a kind custom figure, sometimes an art sort of figure, or something with really skilled sculpting work like what I've seen from Japan and even China from some companies. There are the Figuarts, Figma, Medicos, Medicom Mafex, and others that all make much more inspiring and appealing imagery, sometimes even at prices that are pretty close to what I'd have to pay for a Hasbro figure. On top of that, Hasbro seems a bit mean and unpleasant in several ways, not only in their "reveals" and apparent resistance to giving customers what they want and sometimes their quality control issues like things coming with scratches or paint issues and joint issues and their apparent lack of care or concern while raising the prices anyway, but the fact that they, after some of their biggest profits ever while so many were at home shopping because they had nothing else to do, ended up feeling that they should take the opportunity to see how far they can push the prices before people start backing off. This is where we start backing off though. I cancelled a whole lot of my Hasbro figures to re-allocate more of my silly purchase budget towards fancier things of all sorts, which stimulate my mind more and just look much better to me. For example, I was finding it difficult to get a reasonably prices Obi-Wan Kenobi from Hasbro that also looked good to me, and then I saw the Figuarts one and that was just perfect and amazing looking to me, the same goes for some of the droids (which I haven't purchased), and the figures from the past in the Black Series Archive collection seemed slightly larger, then they became really small and cheap during the Rogue One period, and then they've improved since but are still sometimes seemingly on the short side and not all that fancy, with a dreadful lack of aliens and side characters. I mix my figures and lines and sizes because there aren't usually enough options in each for everything that I might want to represent or new or interesting characters and stories to make. I removed Hobgoblin because I have the version from the Spider-Man Classics era now that I think looks a lot more fun and artistic to me in many ways, and because the Marvel Legends older release with the Green Goblin scaly body sculpt is too expensive, and the new one really looks so plastic-like that I felt ashamed for having to pay 25 or 26 USD plus 3 or 4 USD shipping which ends up being something like 38 CAD from some places, otherwise in Canada with taxes and things where I am it comes to like 40 or 44 CAD and things like that. For something that is mostly so ugly looking? What the heck! So I couldn't do it. I cancelled a lot, and then still put in things that seem ridiculously expensive for their size, just because of their beauty and the craftsmanship involved, such as Judy Hopps from Zootopia from one of the companies, haha though I still may cancel that before it ships.
The amount of "actual comic reader" in here & reddit are quite astonishing lol. Or maybe it's just the comics is super old? And they aren't used to it? Idk, but this fig is based "golden" era of Marvel, late 60's to early 80's. Hulk on that era looks just like this (even modern Alex Ross to some extend), late Kirby era, Trimpe, Byrne, Buscema etc. So making a big deal out of his lips is strange to me, here I thought it's quite standard for Hulk with a face feature like that🤷♂️?
I'll stick with my Diamond Select Hulk, best Hulk out there and scales nicely with Legends. Looks great with 80th Thor/Iron Man, Dr Strange and 20th Cap!
I think you are right on with your perspective on Hasbro's release. If you missed out on the 80th, this is a great alternative. Being selfish for a second, I wish he was just like the backing card though wearing his shorts (I know, he didn't come that way 20 years ago). It would have made for a wonderful original Avengers line-up. I'm a greenskin fan since the King, and the best artists that comes close to his portrait are: John Byrne (Marvel Visionary Hulk book cover) or Pablo Marco for the Might World of Marvel #78 cover.
Great review David! As always, for me I don’t have a hulk so I’m happy I ordered this one, I can’t wait to get it in hand I like the way he looks, I do wish he came with that torn shirt as an extras accessories, definitely makes it look better
I just bought Marvel Select Immortal Hulk and I can't wait. Im gonna put Maestro's head, braces and necklace on the Select Hulk body and put the Hulk head on Maestro's body. I'll put a short video up if your interested whenever it comes in.
An "incredible" review, David. Tbh.....I'm happy with my 80th Anniversary Hulk. The 20th anniv. does look ok. But for me an easy pass. Imo the head sculpts are trash.
I have the Diamond select hulk and might just stick with that one. He looks nice but isn’t for me. The ones I am getting are Captain America and Iron Man. But who knows our minds change for things, I just love classics lol.
Definitely got to grab this Hulk....my 20th Cap arrives today (along with retro Scarlett Witch and retro Vision)....good Avengers day. I need that Hulk and retro Wasp next.
Soooo is anyone else feeling a 80s style end of a toyline ? Hasbro is charging 40 bucks for essentially new heads and base ? Great for new comers or if missed out (minus the price hike uff) but for lot of us pass...Cap for me only and maybe the elusive Toad ?
I agree that the Marvel Legends 80 years Hulk is the best because I don't have a Hulk and even though the head sculpts are not perfect, I still might get him for my Avengers display along with 20th anniversary Captain America. Also posing the three Avengers along with the big guy are awesome. Thank you David.
It's Hippie Hulk! Even the 2nd head looks like he is stoned. LOL I might break down and get him, because I don't have Hulk in my collection. Heck, I may even get some funny pics with that stoned face. LOL
So, does anyone think that after they finish with the X-Men animated team members that they want to make, they'll turn around and repaint all of the 20th-anniversary figures in animated colors, and release better-painted X-Men figures afterward?
I have so many Hulks. Going all the way back to series 1 in 2002. Face-off was my definitive Hulk for so many years. Until I got the 80th. I like the paint and accessory bases on the 20th, but prefer the 80th head. So he is still my definitive Hulk.
Hi Dave my parents bought me 20th cap at forbidden planet London . They also got drunk at Bob Marley show and watch ur vids then my dad went back to forbidden planet and bought muddy mandolarion . Sorry I missed this went to bed early cause on Sunday me was 🤢🤮
You know when I first saw this figure I was so disappointed because of the heads. But now this is just great opportunity to get a new hulk and in time I really began to like these heads because they are so different and unike with ugly 🥒lips😆and longer hair. And of course this stand. But still I really want the 80th anniversary one and SDCC one. For now my only hulk is the immortal hulk from select and he is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. Doesn't fit into legends in my opinion but such a great figure to display. And you know If I want to have hulk collection I would like to get. 80th anniversary for the classic hulk to display him with first apperance wolverine, SDCC for the modern hulk (which is my favorite), Grey hulk but not that much, red hulk such a great figure, maestro but I think I will wait unitl they will give us him with boots normal pants maybe cape and some trophies. Compound hulk is awful and there was no need to make this figure. And finally the 20th anniversary one I would like to get him to display with the avengers and i don't know maybe he could represent mid era of him in comics? If there are some translation errors sorry my english is not perfect
This Hulk is from late 60s to early 80s, from Romita to roughly Buscema. If you look at the artwork from that eras, this Hulk is spot on. Lips is not so bad, people overeact a bit about it, if you actually look at the artwork it's based on, Romita, Herb Trimpe & Buscema pretty much had spot on facial feature.
Ah, no. As I look at my immortal Hulk which is still quite awesome.. minus the one major obvious thing of not having another head with a closed mouth. Different expression. Other than that... Wow
I was fortunate enough to get the 80th hulk BUT my favorite design for the hulk is Alex Ross’/ Immortal Hulk/Joe Bennett version of the character, so what I might end up doing is grabbing that 20th Hulk and get one of those 3D printed immortal hulk heads from eBay, and put it together to have my ideal Hulk
I much prefer the face sculpts on the 20 year Hulk - I don't quite understand this whole lip thing, either. Hulk is not known for beauty, and having a dainty mouth would just be... weird. I do wish he had that shirt, though. (Oh, I'll get that shirt.)
I really like this version compared to the 80th Hulk for a couple of reasons. One is that the hair and face reminds me a bit of the Hulk from Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and I really like that show and that version of the Hulk. The other is that this head is a bit larger, and sits a bit lower on the neck than the 80th figure. I really think that works better with how large this figure is, especially with how wide he is. If the 80th's head was just a bit larger then I think his proportions would look better to me.
Thanks for presentation. But this is a expensive Hasbro- kidding. Every time the same bodymode with ugly cast- noses👎. Better the Imortal Hulk from Diamond select👌. More figure and cheaper.
I got my 20th hulk to go with 80th wolverine from two pack to recreate wolverines first appearance fro. Incredible hulk 181 as the 20th hulk is perfect for it...exact I would day.
Good review dave I'm probably just going to stick with my diamond select immortal hulk who I would recommend over even the 80th hulk that figure is great
Like this Hulk but my favorite marvel legends hulk is the annihilus wave planet hulk the non metal arm version even 15 years later it's a great looking Hulk
Thanks once again, Dave… have mine on order. Definitely agree it will look great sealed… I’m hoping to get a 2nd one for that as this just has two many fun options to utilize and looks great. If I were recommending one Hulk, it still would be the 80th two-pack one… I LOVE this area of the Hulk and the paint apps and accessories are the best overall IMO, but the 80th has the iconic look, hand options, and the lack of it being overly stylized means it probably would fit in with most displays. However, if the person wanted a more 90s-onward Hulk, definitely the SDCC (with correct lighting on it). If however the collector is keeping it sealed, this has the best presentation from the package. A 80th with paint apps on the pants, the same hand options as well as an alternate open-mouth head sculpt… that would be something!
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour haha for me is the other way around preferring the darker shade of green and the new headsculps. The shirt accessory is definitely a plus for the 80th. But probably that's the Hasbro plan.
@@thetoybandit I like hulk having a darker type of green honestly! That’s what I think of when I see Hulk. The lighter green still looks nice and pops but it doesn’t necessarily scream HULK! in my opinion.
The hulk and wolverine 2 pack were about 60$ or 50$ this hulk is a better looking figure, and has more display options, yes 40$ is too much but think about the new paint applied, new face sculpts and the base, i'm going to buy this hulk, because o don't have the other one, i think this is a lot of plastic but yes, for 40$ is a bit over priced, still gonna buy it
