I’ve been on the fence with this one. I thought something was off with the tongue head, but then I just realized, he doesn’t have drool. I think I may add some Gorilla glue epoxy. Maybe give it a greenish tinge and add it to the tongue and in the corners of the mouth. That would really amplify Toad and make him the gross slimeball he was meant to be. Great review as always!
Trust Me Robo…I was not upset when Toad didn’t lick Peely’s face and say: “Oh, How Appealing!” Love your opening movies! My daughter said it reminds her of me! :)
Using that Toad head for Puppet Master is a great idea and I can't wait to see the final result if you go through with it. I also really like this Toad figure and hope they do get around to releasing green Wanda and Pietro, as well as an official Master Mind body to go with that Hellfire head (the head that comes with the figure could have longer hair maybe to differentiate it).
Great review Robo! I'm glad to hear someone else have the same pins reaction as me. I mean its definitely cool when they don't have them but if they do I'm good either way, lol.
I would have preferred the dumpy, classic Toad, but I'm not going to scoff at adding to the Brotherhood. However, those toads are just going to end up as snacks for Fiona 😏🐊
I love the look of this guy, especially the paint, but that price is... oof. Here in Australia, I saw him at Zing/EB Games for $75 AUD! That is only just under the price of two regular Marvel Legends. Given his size and what he comes with, I just can't justify that at all. If I pick him up, it'll definitely be when there's a sale.
Me, reading at the title: "Wait there's an unannounced new ML Brotherhood box set? Where did Robo get that!?" Me, re-reading at the title: "Ooooooooh it's ML20th Toad of Brotherhood, my bad 😵💫"
RU-vidrs like Fwoosh need to be a bit harsh on these new marvel legends prices instead of ignoring the subject especially when the quality of the product does not remotely justify the price. 35 for a figure(incl tax) like this is a joke.
Yeah, I didn't say I waited for a sale at the end or anything, or talk about the prices hurting and having to skip some releases every time it's brought up. Or am I supposed to make angry rant videos specifically on that subject, with lots of threats and demands and tell people what they should do with their money?
@@TheFwoosh No one's asking you to pull off a Gordon Ramsay of figures but not calling out over a 50% price increase which has less to do with inflation and more with the corporate greed feels like everyone's going too easy on Hasbro especially with other companies either not increasing their price or barely increasing it while providing an objectively better product. RU-vidrs have a voice and even if half of the toy sphere called this out in whatever capacity they could could've made a difference.
@@TheFwoosh I’ve been concentrating on gijoe customs lately. But I want to finish my Pryde of the X-men shelf too (yes we need another Blob) not a rerelease
I don't mind highter prices even reissue if it's worthwhile like Sentry or a figure we have seen before and need to fill out a team. I want all the Galactus Heralds out there but I'm disappointed with the Firelord and haven't bought it cause I don't feel like they did as much as they could have for the current prices. Especially when you compare him Gorr who highlights what's possible with effort.
Just got my Toad and noticed that the ball in that torso is really hard to turn. Wonder if the ball is just stuck... There's a lot of "wobbly" resistance.
I still have the OG Toad around here, somewhere, never opened. That $40 is keeping me hesitant on this one, but I did just score another Frogger to custom chunky Toad or Goldballs/Egg….
I just got back from my local Forbidden Planet and saw this Toad and one of the Diamond Select LOTR Moria Orcs. Roughly the same size as each other, Toad definitely has more articulation and accessories, but that Orc from a paint and detailed sculpt standpoint won me over (and it being on sale for nearly half the price as Toad and the new Rings of Power series hype in the air being a definite factor). I do think I will get this eventually, I'm just waiting for sale prices.
"We need a new Blob figure." *Has been watching Marvel Crisis Protocol videos and confused their announced Pyro & Blob for a new ML.* Me - "but...wasn't he just announced?"
Man, it says a lot about how memorable their art was on House/Powers of X that I instantly assumed that the swamp background was by either Pepe Larraz or RB Silva.
I'm not trying to be negative for negative sake, but this figure makes little sense to me, being an older comic book fan. He just looks like an evil 12 year old boy! Naw. Not my idea of the Toad. I passed on this figure. I like the other three anniversary figures though, and had to get those. Cap was great (except for the shield with holes in it), Iron Man was okay, but it needed the gold instead of the yellow, and the Hulk was decent, but he needed some drybrushed lighter green color on his face to make the head match with the body. The Toad's not my cup o' joe. I would have preferred a nice original Toad with a modern buck, but since the Toad isn't really a character that I'm very invested in one way or the other, I'm not fuming about it. It's just an easy pass for yours truly. However, if this Liefeld-ish figure is more your speed, that's cool & the gang by me. As always, Robo, your reviews are awesome and fun, and I look forward to each and every one of them, whether I like the figures or not. Thanks for making toy collecting fun!
I have known the Toad since X-Men # 11 (1965) when he was a lackey of Magneto. I also got to see him in earlier issues including X-Men # 4 which is a landmark issue - it introduces the Toad, Mastermind, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch in Magneto's Brotherhood of evil mutants. This figure of the Toad appears more comic-book accurate than the Toy Biz figure - the costume colors are right but not the face. Jack Kirby was the very first X-Men artist and he made the Toad look like an ugly peasant in medieval Europe and is dressed like one. Jack Kirby's Toad didn't have a long tongue like the one in the first X-Men movie So, much as I want a comic book Toad figure, I will give this one a miss. Shame on you Hasbro. You care more about big bucks than your customers. Toy Biz Marvel figures were inexpensive by comparison and look at the prices of current McFarlane Spawn and DC Universe figures - reasonably priced and are just as well-made. McFarlane Toys was a pioneer in 6 inch action figures back in or around 1994.
_"Overview.."_ You Know Hasbro's in-house communications are REALLY BAD, when you can tell the stupid background "dio's" are waaay to small- BECAUSE THEY WERE DESIGNED W/ THE STANDARD _Legends_ boxes in mind. Not the Throwback _20th anniversary_ plastic bubble packaging.
Another head that could make a good puppet master is a baldified Arcade. The Toad head is definitely creepier but the Arcade head is probably easier to work with. i.redd.it/0rlfst4tw3981.jpg
