Amazingly great review, but Canada has become even more degenerate and Cuckafied, woke, so no surprise nothing was spoke about this this in this PC video review, Wolverine, Bret Hart, Deadpool would be disgusted because of your lack of sincerity and call it how it REALLY is. Typical Canadian. Ya'll afraid to call LGBTQ on their discrimination against non LGBTQ people. How both our governments are pandering hard and pushing this LGBTQ agenda as if its the new normal. But hey anyone who has constructive criticism are automatically labelled bigots or some type of homophobe. Yawn.
Personally, Spidey 2 felt like a linear-open world game. It wanted you to find very specific items/people as opposed to naturally stumbling upon those. Perhaps that’s Insomniac’s formula but with some of the other 90+ rated open world games (Elden Ring, ER, GTA V, BotW, TotK, etc) they all had a level of “Whoa! I found that! How cool!” and although I LOVED Spidey 2… it never once gave me that :/ it was a neat story and obviously I teared up at points, but I’m done with it now.
teared up? realllllly? for sm1 i understand but 2? what point was even emotionally impactful? Nothing sticks and theres no consequences that happen. Anything relatable isnt anything that is emotional in this game imo, im just genuinely confused what made you tear up?
@@JooshMaGoosh Not even watching Peter get stabbed and almost die from Kraven? I didn’t tear up but my jaw dropped and I felt a bit uneasy watching my boi spider get stabbed shanked and die, maybe it was the music playing in the background
The weirdest thing for me is the lack of Police. Like come on, how're the hunters just able to go speeding through New York without any Police in sight.
It's because after the first game came out, there was some controversy on sites like Twitter where people accused the devs of promoting facism and claimed they support copaganda because the game had you working directly with police a lot like Yuri. And because they claimed the game was painting cops in a positive light. That's why in Spiderman 2 they replace most police with fire fighters. But the devs ended up putting them in many situations that don't make much sense for them to be in. Like in the Carnage cult side story, the firefighters are giving you info on hideout locations + hostage situations, and them telling you they'll head inside the hideouts and take care of things from there after you beat up the cult members instead of getting the police.
When it comes to the open world? They better not touch the map, but ipgrade the INSIDE of Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. No more adding new islands. It's time to go deeper within the cities you've built.
bit late to this game, i totally agree with all of your point. Like the story feels barebones and lizard destroyed half the city and he was like chill afterwards as if nothing happened lol. In the first spiderman game, the characters had depth to the story, they acknowledged there's police in this game. The aesthetics and controls of this games is immaculate. It's the big loopholes they don't address, this game could've been so much better, and that's disappointing
@@lemonlid it is a single player game like what kind of things are you excepting from it, you start, play and the end of a story like what do you want after story endless crime mission which it does have and some quality side missions, that's it. this is not a live service or mmo rpg game where you play it endlessly.
Why do their faces looks so plasticky and weird. I never realized how much worse they looked until you show spider 1 next to them. I also have to say there was 0 grit to any dialogue it feels like it was drowned in sanitizer. Great video sir!
@@WhyitJellyDonut I’ve been thinking about this a lot. Stupid name I came up with, but I call it “happiness propaganda”. When Peter gets angry in the black suit, he essentially says the exact things he’d say without it, just shouting in a grittier voice. Even with his confrontation with Harry, Peter is not believably mean-spirited in the slightest. I think there were involved parties in the writing of this game that steered it in the most vapid direction possible. There is not one dour moment that isn’t completely drowned out by some paper-thin message of disingenuous hope and positivity. There is nothing even remotely serious about this game, it’s story is halfassed, predictable and boring as shit.
Everything about these insomniac spiderman games feels watered down & drowned in hand sanitizer. Every one is so bland. Every character acts like a socially-naive church kid. These are literally the unflavored chicken wings of video games. Sauceless pasta
Finally an honest review. This game needed way more time in the oven. The story is leagues below the last 2 games to the point where I have to ask if something went wrong. This game is my biggest fear for Insomniac come true. They’ve been bought out by Sony now and you can tell. The campaign has so many walking-talking sections and QTE cutscenes compared to both the last games it feels like they ran out of time. Sony definitely pushed them to rest on their laurels to get the game out. It hurts because this game has a masterpiece in it. Just needed more time.
The others can be honest too bro, honest doesn’t always mean objectively right, and video games can never be judged objectively, there were always be bias or preference.
@youtubeperson3111 What he meant by being honest is that some reviews or even comments are overhyping it and are ignoring to talk about the negatives of the game. While this guy is talking about the good and the bad.
I’m happy you dug in on the iron spider arms. WORST part of the game for me. The way they just appear out of cloth outfits is so nasty. They ruin every single outfit almost. Big bright metallic arms just popping out. I’m Peter uses those very rarely and the fact they did it for a whole game is so stupid.
Personally I don’t hate them conceptually cause I find it cool that he takes inspiration after his biggest/strongest villains and uses their abilities for good (Doc ock, Venom), but them being unexplained and most likely nano tech is stupid.
It’s crazy that they give you them before the symbiote as well. You should’ve been base Peter until the Symbiote then once it’s off he builds these. Now the arms are just lame asf and are too powerful. Once you get the symbiote it really doesn’t feel like a power increase it feels like you just got cooler looking abilities yet Peter goes on and on about how much stronger he feels when we never feel that at all. Web of Shadows did this better 15 years ago. Insanity honestly.
Just discovered you recently Goose, I'm so shocked that this channel isn't a big gaming commentary channel yet, the content and production is top notch my guy, wishing nothing but success to you
Also notice the quality between this game and 2018s game. We got 3 DLCs 3 months after the game released. Now it’s been 7 months since Spider-Man 2 was out and they’re slacking hard because we keep getting cosmetics instead of new story DLCs. And it took them a few months just to add NG+ like WHAT. Hopefully SM3 isn’t as bad
I have 3 words for you: Sweet Baby Inc. If you have no clue what this means go ahead and look it up, it perfectly explains what happened to Spider-Man 2.
17:04 It’s less obvious in this game cause of the scale But they DID change. Peter is taking a break from Spider-Man to move on to his actual career. And Miles is now more confident of being able to balance his spider and miles life.
@@CRAgamerthis is just wrong venom as a character is the symbiote I get you mean the character venom but the symbiote is crucial and it’s in most of the game. And I think they built up to him pretty well
Well when Norman said save my boy he didn't expect Harry to be in a coma from a forceful separation between him and the symbiote, he thought he would be saved and conscious. Also Peter is the type of guy with so much emotion that he would apologize for things that he screwed up, remember he's been Spider-Man for 10 years at this point he has so much experience good and bad, plus it ties into a theme seen in other Spider-Man stories, the stress of the job and balancing his double-life. (Plus they never said Peter was retiring, he's just taking a break after the Venom incident), Mary Jane wants to make a difference and help others the best way she can because one line she says "if I helped one person it was worth", and while she was a reporter in the previous games, it was going to be much harder to spread the truth with Jameson returning to the Bugle and being her new boss concerned about controversy instead of the truth. Ok, where do I start with this: Sandman was tearing the city apart to find his daughter after Kraven's hunters were after Marko and trying to put Keemia in the crossfire. Also Kraven's drones that resemble animals are called Talon Drones and Beast Drones, oh and in Venom's mind he could help Harry heal the world through symbiosis that way everyone will be safe from all diseases that threaten them and the hosts can be part of the hive mind, because Venom was more about bonding with people then dominate, despite a little bit of corrupted impulses to dominate thanks to the Symbiote God Knull. Kraven has a rich family background, oligarch wealth to be exact from Volgograd, Russia to get every weapon, supply, and transport he could get, plus if you listen closely to the hunters some of them talk about how they join Kraven, plus the Kravinoff empire is big news in Volgograd. (Also Kraven's a big game hunter, of course he would style his army after anything from his hunts, plus he spent a lot of time in Africa besides Russia) Kraven wanted his hunters to find the equal he was searching for, they catch the candidates and he hunts them in wherever Kraven picks his battleground, plus the shift from Act 2 to Act 3 shows how strong Venom was when fighting Kraven, and the great hunter got what he wanted an equal predator to end his life because he refuses to let cancer be the death of him. Yuri Lowenthal said in that interview that there was some visual problems with the original face and the decision was made to change it to improve the mocap performance that Yuri was doing for the game, plus the PS5 graphics were focusing on everything in the game not just the character designs but the whole city and hud elements too.
That thumbnail is just about right. Not only were we missing more Venom voice lines. Not only did Insomniac slack off by not adding new game plus, weather change & mission replayability at launch. Not only did this game launch buggy. Not only did the story feel rushed with Harry & the symbiote Peter segments. But this game suffers heavily from a lot of wasted potential. Overall, I give this game a 6/10. Not bad, but should've been greater.
god of war ragnarok didnt have new game plus at launch and it worked just fine for people now weather change and mission replayablity yes we need those and new game plus is coming at end of year as insomniac said and they should also add weather change and mission replayablity along with new game plus
@@santinopugliese1837 Here's to hoping that the new game plus update brings about weather change, mission replayability & new suits to make up for taking almost 2 months to get the bare minimum. Though getting new suits with new game plus sounds unlikely, it's not impossible.
@@santinopugliese1837god of war is a different kind of open world game. more open segments. GOWR didnt neeed NG+, though it wouldve helped. This on the other hand greatly feels like it needs it as theres not much after the story and the side quests dont last long. GOWR had some lengthy side quests & hidden bosses. Where is any of that in SM2. Aside from both sharing the sony formula in certain parts they are completely different games and santa monica is in a different league compared to insomniac. always has been.
@@santinopugliese1837 Ah yes bring up a completely different game that has absolutely nothing to do with the conversation. Just cause one game has issues doesnt excuse other games for having similar issues.
What you can say about story I do love how they made Harry Vemon. Its a great change it creates way more tension when Peter gains the suit cause Harry is dying again and emotional attachment when you're told you have to kill Harry to stop Vemon
these games have some Awesome concepts, but they keep doing the "Ubisoft" thing instead of specialising the game even further, which makes sense when you want to make the most money i guess
Imagine how much better this game would’ve been if they didn’t force miles into the universe the way they did. He doesn’t add enough to the story to have warranted a spinoff title in-between games. & the time/recourses spent on the spinoff could’ve been put into making 2 a better game
Yeah when this game first dropped I remember after Venom was officially in the story, I took a week off of playing.. It wasn’t even because of work or me being busy, I just got bored .. I believe i went back to Resident Evil 4 and Cyberpunk 2077 .. Then i finished the game, 100%’d the districts waited for NG+, played for like 2 days and again, stopped for another week before finishing the story for a second time . It’s just not as fun/engaging as the first Spider-Man .
Yeah man, I have similar feelings about Spider-Man 2. I enjoyed it but just not as much as the first one. The story-telling wasn't as strong but it was still a really fun game. I'm hoping if we get DLC it will tighten things up a bit.
You have good points, but not all. With Kraven's army, like all crime of groups of villains, theyre always in surreal or fictional large groups beyond logic in the weirdest places, bur thats the game. Also, Kraven's float has cloaking tech and he is rich and an entrepeneur with houses everywhere so ofc he would have easy ways in. Animal drones because theyre hunters and they prey on others so hence the predatory drones. They dont judt scan, they prey. And yeah New York is weird, if Insomniac wasnt so rushed, they could have improved on the npcs in the streets from the previous games and have them feel in the moment or behave differently. Or theyd have hints to fixing and cleaning the city each chapter, albeit via the podcasts of Danika cos it lacks rn. They do mention the symbiotes etc and fighting back, but we dont see it. We dont see much of the police or military at all.
You hit most of my problems with this game on the head. It was probably the most hyped I've ever been for a video game, and now it just makes me sad to think about. I think the character models in particular are the worst part, bc some of them in certain scenes look downright goofy. Personally, I think 5 years should be plenty of time. It was just never going to live up to the hype.
Hi goose. Just to let you know, Spider-Man’s partnership with iron man gave him access to stark tech and an intern position at stark too. That’s how he gets access and can build the stuff he has without being rich. 😊
Ik I’m late but how come no one really mentions about miles fighting alongside when playing as Peter but Peter never fights alongside miles when you play him. If people mentioned it more insomniac might have fixed that 😭
This supposedly the spectacular Spider-Man game always lacked smth and I felt not very satisfied with it when I watched the gameplays but now I know there's not just one but a few issues thanks to you and your amazing new perfectly scientific and never ever wrong Spider-Feel-O-Meter (cool name btw). Also, LOVE your videos Zenkai, they're totally awesome and soooo fun to just sit and watch and have and share opinions on Spider-Man contents Keep doing the amazing job!
Interesting video, I liked your takes and agreed with much of it. Editing's a little too meme-y for my taste but that's the beauty of content creation. Looking forward to your next videos. also I think at 16:56 you meant Spider-Man 1 instead of Spider-Man 2 on the left
Finally, an honest review that isn't overly and stupidly negative, but still reasonably points out some of the flaws that this otherwise great game has. It fails in some parts but in my opinion, nearly adds and improves on everything the first to Insomniac Spider-Man games introduced. I personally enjoyed the story a little more because of how the story built on a lot of the previous characters more while obviously and unfortunately killing off other beloved ones off screen. (yes, Symbiote and Kraven bias mostly. Others may disagree but I LOVED their portrayals in this game and am ignoring some inconsistencies with spider-sense. . .) My only personal complaints with this game really was some stuff that you pointed out. The lack of attention to the gadgets and stealth from the last two games in favor of the new abilities as well as the story's somewhat weird and rather sudden pacing from Kraven to Venom without properly focusing on the fact that HARRY BIT KRAVEN'S HEAD OFF for very long. Here's to hoping the third game has some extra padding to the story to REALLY flesh it out properly. I genuinely thought the game was nearly flawless during my playthrough until you really pointed out some fairly noticeable issues, kudos to you.
Big thanks, this was my exact goal with it. I don't like the overly negative or cynical takes, I think a lot of wonderful hard working folk built a game and I want to respect that while also showing what didn't work in an accessible way. I'll only get better with time, but I appreciate your thoughts on the video and game. I agree with a lot of what you've wrote! Great job!
@@ZenkaiGoose Thank you, I've seen a lot of small nitpicks at the game in a lot of these takes and appreciate that you pointed out a lot more of the more noticeable issues.
Hey Zenkai Goose, like your setup/quality of videos. Happen to have a list to your equipment you use? Also, big Spider-man fan here that collects vintage shirts. Loved that video and definitely subbed
My only criticisms of the game were putting Miles in that god awful suit at the end of the game, and giving the symbiote back to Peter and making him Anti-Venom Spider-Man after they just took it off of him. Made it feel like all of Mile’s work saving Peter was for nothing, and had to save Peter’s ass for the second time.
See, I think the best interpretation if a symbiote story in a video game is spider-man web of shadows. 1. You decide which path you go down(evil or good), 2. The symbiote suit actually felt different than the red suit(you could seamlessly change between the 2), 3. The whole city changed is a realistic way and the symbiote invasion actually felt significant.
I'm glad someone else as a Spiderman fan addressed the "IRON-SPIDER ARMS". Peter has never needed them. They honestly pissed me off when I was having to deal with Scream. Especially considering that Insomniac felt the need to make mistiming powers necessitate a full recharge.
I liked the crossover in story, but I think if you weren't so immersed in the fact you're playing as Spider-man or Venom, you'd be like... what is going on here. I played Last Of Us 2 & grew to love what they did with the crossover in stories (sensitive subject), but here upon reflection it didn't flow perhaps as well as it could. Generally? Great game & easily an 8/10 for me, but it could have so easily been a 10. Another great video mate. Bravo.
I understand your points, still when I played this, I thought it is one of the best games ever made. It took me like 5 days and haven’t played it anymore since then, since I completed it 100%, so if there is one point to critic for me it would be the replayability. Waiting for some DLC.
Buckle in for a long comment of my problems with this game. Venom was heavily advertised in ads and videos and he had maybe 2 hours of screen time? (I'm being generous) Miles is sidelined for much of the story and has 0 of his own villains to fight. Only Peter's. Kravens entire reason for being in NY is "i kill someone cool before i die". There is no emotional attachment like there was with Doc Ock or Venom (as Harry) Venom's whole thing was heal the world but not once did I see any attempt to "heal" anything beyond NY. MJ missions that many, many people did not want. Its very obvious that by credits end, this was a very safe sequel. But the number 1 thing that bothered me the most. The entire sinister six was killed OFF SCREEN. gone. Never to return. This screams lazy writing to me. "Uhhh i dont know what to do with this characters so lets kill them off"
idk how web wings are so praised.... it removes any reason to swing around other then height & is a largely railroaded mechanic with little player experimentation. (i.e. you use it to glide straight/down or use wind tunnels and air vents which kinda fuckin suck mechanically, theres no independent physics to them its all animation based and are antithetical traversal wise but that last part is more or less personal opinion.)
I do agree I think there should’ve been a limit on how long you could use them because web slinging kinda became pointless if you didn’t just like doing it
Man, this had so much potential to be as memorable as the 1st game, but the story didn't hit. Peter apologizing, MJ doing stealth take downs, and the whole plot is just a mess. I really hope the 3rd game makes more of an impact.
Great video but I will say for Norman he said save my son not put him in a coma lol The Avengers should have been there but I'm pretty sure Peter said in Spider-Man PS4 they are rarely in the city & sometimes off-world
Hated how they turn Peter lame, made him SUPER ridiculous, timid, always apologizing, and just trash compared to what he was in the first game(and DEFINITELY compared to what he is in other media, he is MF SPIDERMAN!). And I hated all that crap with Mary Jane, not just the missions(which they KNEW people hated and they just shoved them in again, but with a damn taser) but with her making everything about her, and when her true feelings came out when she was affected by the symbiote, and bashing Peter for being a damn HERO, it was awful..
