@@Nova-fh2et because of how dark and realistic it is, compared to all the goofy stuff Marvel has done such as Ant Man, Spider-man Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor Ragnarok.
This must be the darkest opening credits I’ve ever seen in the MCU. Children being separated to be brainwashed to be killers. Even the song just gives you instant chills down the back of your spine!

@@kermitdasewersidefroggy74 she is a big enough character and Feige wanted a movie for her after Thor, but he kept getting declined by Perlmutter. He almost wanted out of the DCEU because of him, but now he’s fired and Feige has control over everything now. That’s why Black Panther and Captain Marvel finally came out, way too late tho
The way they showed real life politicians sent chills down my spine. While the movie itself could’ve been better, this opening sequence is honestly the best one in the MCU.
This is probably the darkest scene in any mcu and it terrifying that girls all over the world experience shit like this because of human trafficking. I actually teared up watching this the first time
@@its_jsk of course men experience it too. But it’s important to note that the majority of the victims are female. I’m pretty sure it’s like 90% of trafficked victims are minors that are female
May sound like a backhanded compliment, but for me this was the best part of the movie. Such an incredible piece of work and the editors should really be proud.
It truly is. Even though it's a superhero film, it focuses on a real disturbing real world issue and the cover of smells like teen spirit is very haunting and honestly made me forget it was a Marvel movie for a bit. I don't know how best to describe it because I still enjoyed the film, but I wish the film was more like the opening and downplayed the superhero aspect and maybe told a more grounded and mature story. Not necessary a hard R movie but went with more serious and somber tone. Reminds me of a Punisher MAX story arc called The Slavers in which Frank Castle goes against human traffickers and the overall story feels very different from a usual Punisher tale of him gunning down bad guys.
I think the scariest thing about this guy, what arguably makes him one of the scariest Villains for me, is just how realistic he is. Stealing desperate little girls off the street for nefarious purposes? Not that wild a concept.
@@XVNRX I definetly feel like this movie wouldve benefitted in its second half with a less superhero feel The plot is so promising but the villain doesnt deliver for some reason
@@jimmym9341 it was great but they really should've released it earlier. All the performances were great and I hope we get another shot at Taskmaster. This one was just not it. Great movie though
A lot of people want to know more about what happened in the opening credits, but red room is supposed to secret. It’s like the directors and producers telling us ‘we’re not going to show what happened in the red room, because no one is supposed to know what happens in the red room’. The whole reason this film did so well is because like in reality, half the time we don’t know the human trafficking is happening. It’s relatable.
This was scene was probably the best from the whole movie. This intro just take my breath away how amazing it looked. It didn't felt like I was watching a marvel movie it felt like I was watching a movie about cold war. I absolutely loved this. And it absolutely fit the theme of the movie. They should definetly do more of these intros. Music, Action, enviroment and those details were incredibly in this movie.
Winters soldier have this atmosphere and vibe , mcu just pussy or disney just can't go 18plus which is sad , hopefully they can go like invincible or zack Snyder Justice League
After watching this opening, I finally see that Natasha has the most tragic childhood compared to the other Avengers. I’m happy that she still knows how smile.
2:09 if you didn’t notice one of the girls was pulled back from the rest. This implies that the villain sent her to be killed since she “wasn’t good enough” this scene has many good scenes and is something I wouldn’t expect from Marvel. I loved this movie even though some didn’t. Adding on to this, yeah Thanos, Dormammu, Hela, etc are scary, but Draekov is scarier. His political power and being so high up is what makes him the scariest. Like he said, he can start and end wars with a snap of his fingers. That’s what makes him so scary. The realism of it. The fact that he could be real. That he “is” real.
Bro I noticed her looking sideways but didn't realise he pulled her from the queue. You've got an incredible eye, and this sort of detail I what I live for.
@@Synthesyn342 Yeah I got a few subtle things just the line up thing was crazy, felt like the villain was more intimidating in this scene than the whole movie for stuff like that, but that's my opinion of it. Still a good villain with a good background.
This opening scene is better than the rest of the movie. Shows parallel to the dark underside of human trafficking and could explore that more, but goes back to the basic formula.
It really is a shame the rest of the movie didn't live up to this scene. The whole plot felt pretty clunky and downright stupid. Yelena made it tolerable though.
i’m so glad they didn’t sugar coat this. i think the red room is one of marvels darkests things. if you rlly think about it, it’s human trafficking. i even love how in the movie the line “recycling what the world has too much of, girls” was used. it rlly just shows the reality that sometimes women are targeted just to be used and treated like they’re nothing
It was sex trafficking. they sexually abused the girls on a weekly basis in the red room. they stole them from their families and killed them if they weren’t strong enough. It was straight up evil but also straight up human trafficking.
I love how this didn't feel like a traditional marvel opening, it's ominous and very unerving, and the use of "Smells like team spirit" works really well.
Having been a victim of human trafficking as a child, this scene brings back so many memories that I had to leave the theater from the breakdown I had.
I can’t believe you went through it. I feel sorry for you. I had a breakdown over the Holocaust back in 2018 and smashed everything in my house. I’ll not forget about my 2018 past and mum’s friend Michelle told me I have emotional and anxiety issues and I knew why I went out of control
It is horrible because once I overthink it I can see it and that’s why I can’t sleep at night anymore because I’m too scared to see the same thing again. Even last Sunday I’ll not forget about how our beloved Lord Mountbatten died and I’m still crying over this one week on. I was also shaking so much throughout the documentary. Now I’m getting dreams about saving Mountbatten just seconds before he died and he fell in love with me in the end. Can’t wait for the dreams where prince Philip finds out
I just wished they added something in the credits like a website or organization people could go look at for more information. I think that would have been really neat
@@Undidiridium_ That would’ve been great. Just like how Zack Snyder put the su.icide prevention ad in the New Justice league movie because he lost his daughter to sui.cide.
This villain was, for me, one of the most terrifying ones. He's basically a child trafficker and abuser on steroids. This scene just breaks my heart for how realistic it gets to be
He reminds me of Beriya, stalins head of his secret police Who was known, in part, on top of being the one to order most of the executions and genocide of the soviet union, for…molesting young girls…. He was executed in the weeks following stalins death When his house was years later turned into an embassy, they found several skeletons of young girls buried around the property Just like drekhov he was a spymaster, manipulator, human trafficker, and molester
@@sebastiancarrillo7083 it wasn't your usual MCU film, it was awful. But I do agree this could have been the best film in the MCU if it had this tone the whole way through. But then people would be disappointed that it wasn't R-rated. Which was actually considered, apparently, believe it or not.
The allusions to real life human trafficking really sold how dark and somber this opening was. Really gives an idea of the horrors Natasha and Yelena underwent.
@@himeshoney I had a breakdown during this scene because it reminded me of Auschwitz for some reason and this actually happened there but way more brutal than that. I was recovering from the night before seeing Black Widow from my breakdown over Prince Philip being gone and that grief totally ruined me
This is the most horrific, heartbreaking, and depressing opening scene I’ve ever seen but it truly sets the mood of the entire film and shows the dark side of the world. Wars, human trafficking, human experiments, and child exploitation do exist and it’s something we tend to want to ignore but this scene forces us to watch it and acknowledge it.
Bro it does not reflect the movie whatsoever, although I feel like if they really emphasized that part of natasha’s life and she coped would have made for a much better movie
@@jazazo8392 I agree I want more Nat and Yelena early life backstory in the red room, the start of the film was so strong then act 3 felt like a typical marvel film I really want more of these two, they had such great chemistry.
The sad part is I though that Black Widow wasnt gonna be that typical Marvel jokes movie because of the intro I thought it was gonna be dark but instead its just a typical Marvel movie with the awesome action scenes and the overusing of jokes
This movie was great, but I'm disappointed that they didn't focus on this stuff more. This part was dark, realistic, and impactful and they should make a movie soley focusing on this part of her life before she escaped.
LITERALLY. I would have loved if like half or at least like 30 minutes was about what happens during this intro and then the rest could’ve been when they were grown up. I do hope they focus more on the red room tho. I remember being so interested in it when hearing about it in Agent Carter.
“I’m worst at what I do best, and for this gift I feel blessed…” WOW that line hits different in this context. Imagine being raised and trained to be a ruthless assassin, but never being able to shake that feeling of responsibility for all the people you murdered, even though it’s the thing you’re best at. YIKES
I think in this context, it's a bit different. By being good enough to remain in the red room, but not so good that you're the cream of the crop means you won't get sent for the most dangerous missions. Therefore feeling blessed.
Dreykov is probably the most purely evil character in the entire MCU. A truly disgusting monster played brilliantly by Ray Winstone. He actually scared me in these opening credits. Wish he had more to do for the rest of the movie.
Yeah with most action movie villains, someone just tells you that they’re bad and that’s that. In this movie you see exactly what he did and is responsible for. By the end of this intro I was fully convinced that he was a monster.
Absolutely. His ability to take away free will completely and his specifically targeting young girls is just the epitome of evil. Coming out of the movie the one thing I wished they did differently was somehow give more emphasis to both taskmaster and dreykov because there is so much potential with each of them that just couldn’t be explored with the time constraint. After the movie reaches the red room i didn’t get the same sense of power and evil from him but that might just be me.
I just walked out of the cinema and I’m already youtubing the opening again. An incredible way to set the mood for the whole movie that’s a tribute to a fallen avenger. It’s like now that she’s gone, we hear her story. Makes her passing all the more heart-breaking.

They once again had the opportunity to put Nat and Bucky’s backstory together in the Red Room (it’s said that it had connections with Hydra/the Winter Soldier program) but no :___
Or a Disney + series about Red Room during the Cold War with the Red Guardian Melina or an other series about Yelena with the Red Room when she is under the control of Dreykov with assassinations
The first time I watched this scene I started crying, it was so sobering. Like no super soldiers, no thunder gods, nothing so fantastical that you’re like “this could never happen in real life”. There are so many kids in the world who don’t have anyone to protect them, just like in this scene.
@@peachsoylatte Don’t feel like you have to explain your emotions. This scene was extremely sad and impactful as children are trafficked all the time and it is a very real thing. It’s only normal to feel sadness or anger when seeing it.
It’s horrific and terrifying that this is realistic. He is a very real villain, stealing little girls off the street for “a better life”. It’s just heartbreaking to know that stuff like this happens in real life.
@@tasinal-hassan8268 Didn't Dreykov get Nat's mom killed because she kept searching for Nat? Also I think some poor parents were fooled into giving up their kids.
@@captaindeadpool7174 Yeah that was after she was not being returned once Dreykov gave Natasha away to her surrogate parents. Dreykov didn't want to kill her at first, but she was persistently looking for the Red Room. That's why she was removed. But it's true that Natasha was given away by her own mother. She was promised that her daughter would maximize her human genetic potential. It was usually children from impoverished families who were given away like that.
Damnit this is perfect for Black Widow. Why wasn't the whole film like this? The tone of this intro is exactly what the film should have conveyed, similar to Captain America: the Winter Soldier.
@@fiveh3340 It's not just that - the usual Marvel house team was put in charge of the entire third act. Everyone else didn't get any creative input, so we got a lot of cg cartoon nonsense instead of actual emotional catharsis.
@@chef2042 And Wandavision tapped into similar themes of grief and healing and mental health. So did No Way Home. But Hawkeye's ending was as shallow as Black Widow's. The MCU can be very good when talented people are trusted and given freedom to explore their stories. Unfortunately, you can tell when they're trying too hard to keep things light.
Loved the movie, but keeping the dark tone would’ve made it so much better. This scene made me cry because of the reality of it. Sometimes dark is better than comedy. Like when Yelena revealed their forced sterilization, Marvel laughed it off but if they would’ve gotten into it, i think it would’ve elevated the movie.
Just a friendly reminder this takes place in the same universe as the TVA, magic, dimensional beings of darkness, Norse gods, and the jump scene from GotG 2. Seeing something this depressingly and scarily realistic amongst the craziness of the MCU is somehow the thing that stands out the most
We get many glimpses of this in the mcu despite it having all these powerful beings. Vulnerability is what separates someone who is nearly immortal and human. But this really hit home because it describes our world and the basic understanding of human trafficking and how it runs in everything around the world we just don't see it.

Wow.. just wow.. This scene is probably one of the best in the MCU. It really brings awareness to the problems of Human Trafficking that we pretend to ignore. The vocals combined with the acting just creates an amazing story.
This is by far, the best opening credit scene in marvel, or even credit scene. The song, the cinematography. It really shows the pain she went through and you think this could never happen in real life, but it does just not in this way. Kids get stolen every day, and they say it will be their new home but it will never be a home to them. The movie was dark, but I don't think it could've been portrayed any other way. Marvel did a wonderful job showing black widow in a view we haven't seen before. This movie is a masterpiece and will forever hold a very special place in my heart. Cheers to the one and only Natasha Romanoff.
OMG, this film was amazing! The scene with the old cartoons and the girls just starring at the computers was haunting. They were just brainwashed. Poor girls. :(
while not necessarily the most evil, dreykov is the most terrifying mcu villain. the other ones are bad, sure, but outside of a few from phase one there’s a campiness to them that makes you remember they’re super villains, that it’s not real. people like dreykov exist in real life, and that chills me to the core.
I think he is people say thanos but drekov does what he does for power and doesn't care who gets hurt thanos does what he does because he thinks it will help
Nah, a lot of “campy” MCU villains are somewhat realistic in the way business heads can become extremely greedy and psychotic with their desires. Dreykov is disturbing in this scene alone, every other scene with him I almost wanted to laugh at how much of an old-school Bond villain this guy is. The movie also seems to handwave away the question of how much fucking money he needs for his whole system. Also he’s apparently had an airship that’s been in the sky since like, the first Avengers movie and has never landed or been noticed by anyone.
I really think this is a metaphor of all the abuse girls are exposed to, human trafficking, wealthy men controlling all of this. Abuse in every place, gymnastics, dance... I was really moved by this scene
All this time I wanted a detailed BW prequel all about the Red Room but I literally couldn’t handle a three-minute long snippet that felt like a horror movie. Tears.

This may be one of the top opening credits scenes I've EVER watched. It's right up there with Terminator 2, which gave me goosebumps and chills in the theater and Watchmen.
if you stop watching black widow after the opening credits, it's the best movie in the whole franchise. the more you watch from there, the worse it gets.
Why people hate this movie? It's not the best MCU movie but it's not bad. And the intro excels the intros of every other MCU movies. That intro is some academy awards level stuff.
The movie was far from excellent. It had one of the best openings I’ve ever seen and then fucked it up with the action. The plot was thin and the premise was spoon-fed in the first 15 minutes when Yelena had the vial used on her. It all happened way too fast, in order to create a non-stop action scene rather than a movie. The villain was bad. Taskmaster is “big boring killer robot” again and the “big reveal” felt shallow. Draykov’s death was laughable and cheesy. Honestly once the Widows stormed his office and attacked Natasha to set up the grenade toss, I was just about done with the movie. It was constant violence and little to no story. The movie overall was fine, but it doesn’t deliver on the incredible beginning and is more of a side story than an origin story.
It’s good but would’ve been better if it was made after civil war, I appreciate her character more now but this movie would’ve fitted in better if they didn’t kill her off.
Though the rest of the movie was great, this was definitely the most impactful of the entire film. It just shows how depressing and how terrible the Widow program was. I would actually like to see an entire movie dedicated to the Red Room and BW's past, but it doesn't seem likely.
It'd be cool to have it as a series, where they could explore the mechanisms of the Red Room. I think it would also help develop Natasha, Yelena and the rest of the widows - also Taskmaster. Disney+ series's have become really popular, and with such a recognizable character I think it could be a good idea.
The rest of the movie was so forgettable it made me forget how amazing this opening was. DAMN YOU BLACK WIDOW FOR USING THIS INCREDIBLE INTRO IN SUCH A MEDIOCRE MOVIE!!!
This really highlights themes of human trafficking. So heartbreaking and felt their pain, coming from someone who isn't a big Marvel fan. Such a powerful opening
When I watched this movie for the first time I was on a plane. It was a late night flight so I decided I should watch this. Watch the start of it not expecting much, and then this scene starts. I remember sitting in my chair just staring at the screen, with my eyes watering. I felt completely out of control and just sat there and watched this as I just couldn’t bear to look away. My eyes dotted from left to right as the scenes flashed like mason from BO1. Plus the music just made this scene hit all the more hard and made it feel all the more real.
Now I feel bad for Woody.EXE because he got abandoned by some kid a few years ago so I decided to take him on. He tells me and my 2009 Woody the backstory of how Woody.EXE got here and it made my 2009 Woody cry that Woody.EXE hugged him saying “Woody, look at me; I’m okay!” I even cried
Loki is actually pretty dark. The humor kinda mask's it but It literally featured a scene of Loki joking about a volcano wiping out Pompeii and a civilization losing their only hope getting off of an alien planet.
@@pyromaniac034 I wouldn't necessarily say that's dark. While yes, these are negative situations, the way they are portrayed is not dark whatsoever. For example: Even when thanos wiped out planet after planet, the mcu didn't seem dark, it just seemed "evil" / "sad". The black widow opening credits is just a whole nother vibe imo, gives me more daredevil vibes rather than mcu vibes, but I think it's a step in the right direction.
Exactly, the movie was a bit forgetable although quite good, but this is the best Marvel intro hands down. I totally didnt expect and was like wtf the whole time.
While emotional overall, what gave me the teary sensation was the realization that Natasha knows this is Yelenas first time in the red room and her whole world is about to be turned upside down, so she desperately wants yelena to hold onto the picture of when they were younger and still a family
Out of topic but this gives ‘DuckTales’ a darker meaning. In Ducktales (1987-1990), Donald drops off Huey, Dewey, & Louie to his uncle, Scrooge McDuck. With Scrooge’s supervision, he trains the kids to be adventurers like him. In this case, Nat & Yelena were the “Huey, Dewey, & Louie” to Alexei & Melina’s “Donald Duck”, being forced to be taken by Dreykov (a darker mix between Scrooge & Glomgold) who trains the girls to be assassins.
If was so strange seeing Marvel Studios in an opening credits sequence this dark. The camcord shots of all the girls made me legitimately uncomfortable. And the fact that it was a cover of this song and not some dark ominous orchestra added to it
@@sia6045 Nah I’m talking about the opening credits. Yeah Peter’s mother dying was a really dramatic moment, but the opening credits to that movie was Peter singing along to a song. The opening credits to this one was a montage of girls being trafficked and conditioned. WAAAAY darker
I mean did you guys expect sunshine’s and rainbows 😂😂 And also ngl I was a little bit frightened by this but it does look cool because it gives the movie the chance to tell a more mature gritty storyline
Man, this intro hit hard. Think of all the other Marvel characters growing up during their childhoods. Then you have Natasha Romanov, who like many other girls, had her childhood and innocence stolen to become a weapon essentially. The only one whose childhood rivals hers in tragic upbringing I'd say would be Ghost from Ant-Man 2 who was tricked by SHIELD to use her powers for their purposes without ever getting the cure they promised.
This movie, this scene in particular hit me hard because I was a Russian orphan as a child and I was taken in and was taught how to survive by being trained in many different fields of combat as a child.
I wish the movie was made as a psychological thriller. It set up as one but then turned into just a regular superhero movie. With Natasha on the run, her dark past, brainwashing, the Red Room, her traumatic life experiences... it was all a perfect mixture to create a really good psychological action thriller. A major missed opportunity. I wonder if Cate Shortland had planned on it but faced too much studio interference, because this opening scene is such a huge tonal contrast to everything else that comes after.
@@jeaniebeanie6 yes, they could have also shown Natasha having some hesitation and fear when she decided to destroy the Red Room for good, they could've shown her having nightmares, vomiting, having flashbacks of this moments of torture when she was a kid and still trying to keep herself strong to face her past. Throughout the whole movie she seems just fine when she figures out the Red Room still exists and gather everyone to go help her, she doesn't show any kind of hesitation about this "horrible past" she had, which is disappointed considered in every trailer or commercial they tried to sell the movie as "Natasha facing her past" but she deals with the situation just like she dealt with any other previous villain, it doesn't seem something actually connected with her. That's just what I think, I still like the movie a lot.
Im a huge marvel fan. But this is by far my favorite intro scene because it’s so perfect for the movie and it provokes so much thought. This villain is so creepy not only because of how brilliant the performance is but also how realistic he is. With people like Jeffrey Epstein in this world and all the underground shit. Also you can’t see ice giants or mad scientists everywhere but I encourage you to look up sex offenders near you. It sadly is such a big thing in the world we live in and many of us will never know the reality of a helpless girl in danger which happens every hour of every day, everywhere in the world. Overall the scenes, music, theme and genre of this intro are very powerful.
To think Jennifer Lawrence said she wanted to kill jeffrey Epstein, reminds me of katniss said she was going to kill snow but we all know how that turn out
I cried at this scene it’s so powerful. The saddest thing is that human trafficking like this is such a big issue. I’m glad marvel are using their platform to spread awareness of these issues.
I don’t know if I’m the only one that thinks this; but this scene here makes me better understand why Romanoff throughout the entire MCU series seems so closed off to everyone around her. Even when she seems to have a romantic connection with someone (like Steve Rogers or Bruce Banner), it only goes so far. She even says in this film that she has lived many lives. This is a really cool introductory scene to the film, because it reveals more about the bleakness and tragedy of Romanoff’s entire life.
I actually like that this movie came out AFTER Endgame, it makes her story more impactful knowing what she went through and the final sacrifice she ultimately makes in the end
This is the best introductory scene in Marvel. Just shows the brutality of real world issues like human trafficking mostly with girls. And then the editing like with the pigs literally stating the girls are being raised as the same way as pigs. It’s just so dark and loved it.
It felt really authentic until the end of this scene and I thought "I'm going to watch a really really good movie", but after this scene, It just became a regular superhero movie.

I think this is the best "scene" in an MCU movie. It is so haunting and it really demonstrates the themes of the movies and the experiences Natasha, Yelena, and the other Widows went through. I was so surprised that they did opening credits, as most Marvel movies don't but this was fabulous.
By far my favorite intro in any Marvel movie. I just wished they maintained this dark and moody tone throughout the rest of the film. We could have had something truly special.
