Marvel Ultimate Alliance Is The PERFECT Marvel Game - Marvel Ultimate Alliance (2006) Game Review 

This game is a treasure. I really want to go back and play it. I need more marvel games like this one

This game was the sequel we didn’t expect, but also didn’t know we needed. Then again, I wasn’t born during XML one and two, but the point still stands. Marvel Ultimate Alliance has an amazing original storyline, in which your team of four heroes (the canon ones being Cap, Spidey, Wolverine, and Thor) teaming up to stop Doctor Doom. It’s even more impressive when you realize that this was pre-MCU, so all these characters were less-known back then and didn’t have much popularity. You had the most infamous ones like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and obvious superheroes like that, and then you had the lesser-known heroes of that time, such as Blade, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Daredevil, Elektra, Spider Woman, every Fantastic Four member, and even some X-men thrown in like Storm, Colossus, and Iceman. Each character has their own simulator missions, and there even was a cut mission for Hulk. Some simulator discs could be found at any time, whereas others like the Mysterio boss disc or the Deadpool simulator disc can only be found during fake castle doom and when freeing the gods respectively. If you collected every simulator disc, not counting the simulations at the very bottom, and completed each one with a gold medal, you unlocked Silver Surfer. The game also had very minor, yet game-ending choices. At the end you get a narration of the many things you either encountered or missed, which may seem like no big deal on the surface, but then you learn that it had bad consequences of some kind, and there are some examples. Didn’t save the Omega Base Computer during the elevator transition? Well, now the mutants die of a rare disease and practically become extinct. Didn’t retrieve Valkyrie’s sword during the quest to reopen the Bifrost? Ragnarok is lost and Loki remains free. Didn’t destroy the Optronic Drills while on the Skrull Planet? The Kree invade Earth. The only choice that doesn’t necessarily have a good outcome is the one in Mephisto’s Realm. Once you defeat Blackheart, you get one key to free an X-men: Nightcrawler or Jean Grey. This ends up being more of a ‘lesser of two evils’ scenario, as if you save one, the other perishes after defeating Mephisto. If you saved Jean, Mystique would find out about Kurt’s death, sneak into the X-mansion and assassinate Xavier, thus disbanding the X-men. If you saved Nightcrawler, the only thing you’d have to worry about is an angry Dark Phoenix coming back. Anyways, a lot of the game’s voice acting was done by fans of the comics, and get this, Deadpool wasn’t voiced by Nolan North in MUA 1, but instead was voiced by John Kassir, and instead, Nolan did voices for Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Colossus, and Moon Knight. The X360 port of MUA had something that most other ports didn’t have, and that was achievements and DLC. That all changed in 2016 with the remasters, but for 2006, MUA was the only game to have achievements and DLC on a port, being the X360 version. DLC for the X360 version gave eight more playable characters, four being heroes, and the other four being villains. The four heroes were Hulk, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, and Hawkeye (Also seen in the PSP version). The four villains were Venom, Sabertooth, Magneto, and Doctor Doom himself. These DLC characters are also included in the remaster. Overall, Marvel Ultimate Alliance was something else for its time and had great gameplay, voice acting, and storytelling. The 2006 pc port, the one you could get on a DVD rom, can be modded to have characters from other ports, characters from XML 1 and 2, characters from MUA 2, and characters from other games and franchises. Course, you do need a dvd port on your PC, as well as an alternative method to booting it up, but it can be fun if you manage to get it working. That’s my thoughts on Marvel Ultimate Alliance, a game I grew up playing and love to this very day.

Definitely among my top 5 favorite games to play! I love playing with a variety of characters from throughout Marvel's history! And it's made even better as there is no Miles Morales, Kamala Khan or any of those characters mucking up the roster!

How would you feel if these aspects were combined into one Marvel Ultimate alliance game ? : The first game’s huge roster The second game’s graphics, special team up moves and collecting health to revive your teammate The third game’s mechanic of four players playing the same hero.
