Getting the reality stone early in the game feels like a win condition for thanos because being able to vanquish while keeping your allies lets you maintain so much board pressure it frees you from constantly having to rebuildn your board for every push and lets you be way more aggressive, especially against taskmaster who needs their allies alive early on to get their engine running.
This is insanely useful. Today my family tried to play this today, and it was to confusing. me and my dad have been spending hours trying to figure out how to play, and by the time I say this vid I all ready knew how to play the general game. What I didn’t know how to do, was win as thanos. (I am thanos, my dad is hela, my mom is killmonger, and my brother is ultron.) this was so helpful, and I’m gonna watch your other vids on the other villains to get a better sence on the game. Thanks so much, and I’m subbing.
@@LordoftheBoard I haven't received my marvel box yet its still in the post but what little I've seen in videos from you and joker jonesey the marvel box looked too different to match them together
YESS another great video Sam!! I'm so excited to get this game, its coming soon! Looking forward to playing killmonger and hela! Can't wait for your next videos on the other villains! I hope a new expansion includes Magneto and/or Mystique they are personal faves of mine. Thanks again for this video!!
Great vid again! Really awesome. What I would love to see some day is "how to stop" videos on the Disney Villains. Explaining how to block/fate a Villain for more competitive play. Some Villains seem hard to grasp.
Thank you for making these guides! My wife loves Villainous but was frustrated with the new complexities in Marvel Villainous. These videos helped game night tremendously.
Just picked this up today. Me, my girlfriend and some friends decided to play it and the first thing I did was check for a strategy and came straight here. Thanks a million!
Awesome strats! I thought Thanos was really complicated, but this honestly helped. Can you do a video like this for Ultron next? He’s personally my favorite villain.
@@anncrockett1129 did ya watch the vid? Thanos has a special rule in his strategy book: he’s the only character who can relocate Allies to other realm where there’s a stone. As for the stones, you get them out with “Consult the Well”, of which you have 4 copies of in the Thanos deck. As far as I’m aware, it’s the only card that gets stones into realms.
“With the exception of Thanos, a villain may only relocate an Infinity Stone within their domain.” This is in the guide, does it mean that the stone can only be relocated, aka not attached to another ally again and it also cannot leave the domain it’s been placed, right? It doesn’t mean that any other ally or item in the domain the stone currently is in can’t move or relocate at all, correct?
Deliver judgement can be good if played with ebony maw. I got +2 on him and he was wrecking my opponents allies, not getting discarded, and bringing the stone back. I didn't need any other ally. Super good combo
You sadly are not able to. At least there isn’t officially rules for it. I think some fan rules can be found. Also an expansion is coming soon to marvel!
Thx so much. Just bought the game and my son and I played our first game tonight. I played Thanos. Near the start of the game, the power stone landed on a powerful ally of his ( none on the board, he played from his hand). He immediately put 2 +1 tokens on his ally. Shortly after I had to surrender the game. By activating the power stone item, he kept on increasing its power and there was no way any of my allies could beat that and take the stone back. Maybe we are not playing correctly, or have misunderstood some rules? We would really appreciate your take on this, and assistance. Thankyou
Thanos' goal of gathering the Infinity Stones confuses me with relocating allies. usually relocating allies means getting them to your domain, but getting the stones means getting your allies to your _Opponent's_ domain. is that allowed with thanos' allies?
I have a few questions: 1. Do you "control" your allies and items in other villains domains? 2. When relocating cards within your domain, is it still to an adjacent location? 3. Why are 2 of the "taste of cosmic power" card items and one is an effect? It doesn't make sense as an item. 4. Assuming there is an infinity stone at the location, does "Black Swan" match the strength of the strongest ally or will she always have (at least) 1 more strength than the strongest ally? 5. I read in a comment that "Death's Favor" does not need to be used immediately when moving to a location, but can you play in to your location and use it that turn? 6. Can you use the "Found by the Avengers" fate card to remove a Hero from your own domain? Thanks
1. Thanos is the only one that can send his allies to others domains to conquer the Infinity stones, and to answer your question they have to stay in that location with the Infinity stone and can't go anywhere else you can still "use them" 2. To any location
Thank you! I came up with the two relocate actions on knowhere with the space throne when I played with a friend, and I thought it was great. My strategy that game was first, gain power and play allies as well as discarding cards in order to find death’s favor and the space throne.
So the impression I’m getting is that Thanos can be hard to start, but you begin gaining momentum as you collect stones. Each one you collect makes it easier to get the other ones (i.e. use the mind or soul stone to get allies in your hand, the power stone to increase their strength, the reality stone to vanquish other stone holders without losing anyone, and the space stone to get people in and out of other player’s domains, while using the time stone to make sure you have cards to play and power to spend on them).
Not sure if you still cover this game anymore, but I did a quick rewatch of this after picking up the Venom and Doc Ock sets! Forgot how different this version was from Disney Villainous!
Great series of videos thank you so much. New to Marvel Villainous and still confused with Thanos, when playing Thanos do you need to use special cards to move ally’s to another persons board or can you just use the relocate. Reason I’m confused is some are saying you must use the cards and I’ve seen some just relocate ally’s….. hope you can help
Collin R you can move the ally you control with an attached stone. But you can’t leave your domain with it attached. And as it is in your possession you can use an activate action to use the ability it provides. :)
Just played the game tonight for the first time and according to the rulebook, at 5:55, you shouldn't be able to jump Proxima Midnight to another player's domain unless you play a specific card that lets you do so. You can withdraw characters with other player domains with the relocate but not place them from your domain to another domain. We felt like Thanos should be an exception to this rule because he has to get so many stones and it takes many actions to do so. What do you think?
Thanos guide does say that you can "may relocate his allies to any location in any domain containing a stone" so does this bypass the rulebook? I wish that there would have been more specifics... But oh well. I like the way you are playing it. It makes way more sense. He is THANOS for crying out loud. And he has to get 6 freaking stones!
Yes. The player handbooks always break the Rulebook because they are what makes the villains unique. Thanos is the only exception to the rules with relocating to another domain :)
@Lord of the Boards - I have played Villainous numerous times and I love it. My only complaint would be that we had to house rule 2 characters. Prince John now has to get 25 power to win and we added an icon to Ursula's board at the palace. Do you agree with these house rules? Do you think these characters were a bit unbalanced? Do you have any house rules? I already pre-ordered Marvel Villainous (very excited for this one).
I find prince john difficult to win with in our player groups. But I mostly run 2 player! so that would make sense. I personally dont have any house rules on villains. :)
Hello, recently got the marvel box set. And played thanks. This guide is awesome. But where on the card does it say consult the well let's you pick where the stone goes and you pick the ally for them? The rules says your opponent when receiving a stone always gets to pick where the stone goes.
I have a question about consult the well. It says the player receives a random unclaimed infinity stone. Does that mean you roll a die to decide which one? How do you choose the stone? Also, with “a stone is found” who chooses the stone for that card?
any way you can do it that makes it random. we shuffle them and have the thanos player close their eyes and draw. also Consult the Well is also chosen randomly.
A very awesome tutorial video Sam!! :D Mine should be arriving tomorrow and just in time with some card sleeve protectors for the cards, and (hopefully) to fit the cards for the Disney Villainous as well.! Curious question though: How would one play this by themselves if you need to play Stones to other character's Domains, to then be able to relocate your Allies to that player's Domain to Vanquish and collect that Stone?
Hmm... I actually haven’t thought about that. My guess would be if you did a solo mode you could set out other player boards. Choose the board and draw from their villain deck until you get an ally and randomly place it in the chosen domain.
Unless I am missing something, none of the villains (including Thanos) can use the relocate action to move their allies to other villain's domains, right? So, the reason that Deliver Judgement is good is because its pretty much the only way to move your allies to another domain without giving out more stones (Consult the Well being the other way, but you don't necessarily want to flood the opponents with stones before you can take advantage of them). The +1 strength is a decent bonus effect, but obviously not worth 3 power on its own
Justin Purdy hey! You can use relocate actions to love your allies to another players location with a stone at it. Thanos is the one who can use the relocate to go to other realms though. Other villains have cards that allow them too
Another thing on my mind is that while killmonger has the weakest allies initially, they have access to a lot of buffing effects as well as Taunt, which lets them move the allies holding the stone around, making it quite difficult to defeat them unless you have a way to do it all in one turn
Justin Purdy I enjoy this thought! And you’re totally right. I’ll have to look into it but I agree. My idea works if you are ready to defeat the ally pretty soon. Like same turn soon
Thanks! I have watched most of your videos by now, just to be prepared when i already have it. Let’s see if i like it just as much as the original villainous board game.
Question! My boyfriend and I started playing Marvel Villainous today and are confused about an aspect of Thanos's gameplay. Can an ally controlled by Thanos hold multiple unattached Infinity Stones at once when that ally enters the location of the unattached stones? We weren't sure if the ratio is 1 stone per ally, or if an ally can hold multiple stones if they're in the same location. Thank you so much! Your videos are super helpful.
Question, so when you have infinity stones, how do the abilities work? Do you get to use all the stone abilities in one turn if you hit an activate or just one? Love the vids!
I just picked mine up and oh my God I love it so much. I feel the quality of the Villain Guides as well as the Boards have been upgraded. I haven't opened the cards yet. I kinda wish the movers were metal like monopoly pieces. That's just a nitpick though. Who should I play first ?
David Stone hmm if it’s just you two... my favorite two player matchup against Thanos has been Ultron or Hela :) my fav character is Hela though so what about her?
@@LordoftheBoard She was leaning towards Hela bc she's her favorite villain in the MCU, which looks like what the game is based on but combining the comics with it.
Two questions for anyone! 1) does anyone know if one ally can hold multiple infinity stones at the same time? 2) For Ultron, when it says “remove ally” is that just simply discarding them or is there specific action/action needed to do that? It’s part of his objective and it feels too easy to just discard.
Hey! I got 2 answers. Only on stone per ally. Also yes you can just remove them and flip the upgrade tiles. For the first one you could play 2 sentrys and remove them immediately to complete the upgrade.
Lord of the Board sorry, one more question! When moving Corvus Glaive back to my domain, do I move the legions with him as well? Or does that ability only apply when moving him to an opposing players domain?
Maybe this is a dumb question but how do people randomly pick a stone? Do you shuffle up the pile and they have to randomly pick one or are they taking whichever one is at the top of the pile? If the latter, you could read it first and see which opponents might benefit more or less from it.
What card sleeves do you use for your marvel villianous set? I had a set for my original villianous game and I tried to use them but they do not fit in the marvel box
Does there need to be an infinity stone in another person’s domain in order to be able to move Thanos’ allies there or does there need to be a stone to accomplish this?
Tip 4. Sacrifices must be made. After defeating this event, remove the allies who has the stone so Thanos can just get the stones without defeating those allies
Lord of the Board I’m excited on Ultron. I’m guessing “Age of Ultron” is a card and he might have something to do with allies. Although I’m hoping for there to be expansions for Marvel like Red Skull. I’m also hoping for at least 1 more Disney Expansion, but I’m really excited for the ways you could play with both Marvel and Disney Villainous combined.
Hoo boy! Family is going to love this... I do wish you could go over what events are though, @Lord of the Board . Because it’s hard to tell how to use them without knowing what they are and how they work... which makes it harder to tell why the Legions are good.
With Deaths Favor, would you say it would have to be used right away when Thanos moves to the location or can he use it at any time while at the location?
Let's say I've collected 3 infinity stones and I have death's Favor (wich allows me to use an Activate or vanquish action)in Sanctuary ll, Can I activate the effect of two of those infinity stones or once in my specialty spot I am able to use the effect of only one infinity stone?
A question if you vanquish and you get a stone from other villains ally , in that moment you returno your ally with the stone or you have to use recollate action to pull your ally back ?
:o woooo trop cool ! I suddenly discovered the game in preview: D Because I am not under any illusion the game will arrive in French in Belgium in 6 months see 1 year!
I appreciate this series of videos. I feel like Thanos is just way too slow compared to the other villains in box. In particular, Ultron/Killmonger can be threatening a win in 2 turns at the same point in the game while you might have 3 stones in play, at that's if those consult the wells aren't at the bottom. I have heard of some people house ruling things here (like letting people look at 2 fates instead of 1, like in the Disney Villainous). Is there any suggestions you have for bringing thanos up to be more balanced with certain villains?
if you can get the mind stone early, Thanos can collect stones pretty easily since he can search his hand for consult the well, and after playing consult the well, getting warp reality to get extra use out of that CtW/ Thanos with mind stone can get 3 stones out of one CtW. so best i can say is hope for good stone rng?
What happens if you use consult the well in 1v1 and that player has no allies? Do I just send an ally to the location that the stone is at and relocate it back? Or do they get the stone and then don’t play it until an ally of theirs comes to hand?
Hey! In the Rulebook it states that if the opposing player doesn’t have an ally then that player must play one for free from their hand and attack the stone to that ally. If none are in their hand they draw from the top of the deck until they reveal and ally and play it for free! And attack the stone. Then they must shuffle their deck
So what happens if you defeat my ally with the stone? And I play another ally where the stone is located? Is that ally now defending the stone? Or can you not do that?
How do you beat Ultron, his deck isnt very interactive so its hard to stop him even while using fate cards. Imo hes the best archetype in this board game so far
He’s very powerful and will win most games. Very easy to play and learn and is hard to stop. Sadly the strategy would be to fate 2 times right off the bat and hope for hero’s to cover his important top actions. Then focus on your goal and fate every other turn or so.
@@LordoftheBoard Ty for the help! Gonna try this later on today when I play with some friends. Love the guides a lot since some of these decks are hard to understand at first.
Death’s Favor: as per the text, you do the Vanquish/Activate as your first action (when you move), correct? Or is it treated as an icon and thus can be activated whenever you want?
Think of Death's Favor as adding either the activate or vanquish icons to that location. You do not have to decide which action to use before performing one of the other actions.
@@LordoftheBoard I dont think that is correct. If it was adding those actions to the location it would look like the throne card. I think you have to do this as soon as you move there before you use anything there
@@joshearnest Hey Josh! I was able to get clarification from Cassidy (ravensburger marketing lead) and It is the way I described, The wording could be clearer but you have the option to use one or the other at any time during your turn :)
Hi there great video! I have a question about deaths favour. I was under the impression you could only use it upon first moving to the location? As in you couldnt move there and use a relocate action and THEN use deaths favour to vanquish or activate?
10:30 - You have to use the vanquish or activate when you move. Not just whenever on your turn. So you can't relocate an ally then use the vanquish from Death's favor. If they wanted you to have access to an action at any time during the turn, it would be a symbol. But it specifically says, "When you move to this location", which is before any other actions.
This is how i was interpreting Deaths Favor, but then it was shown differantly. My play circle has house ruled saying it must be used first before any of the location actions are use. We have also house ruled that, with the exception of using the space stone, Thanos's allies must return back to Thanos from another domain and cannot move within another villian's domain. Im I making it harder on myself with this house rule?
If we collected the stones already more than 2 or 3 e.g if we go to location with 'Activate' action, how many stone specialty can be activated, just 1 stone only or we can activate all the stone? (Because I imagined that Thanos because more powerful as he keep collecting more stone and more action can be done?)
Sadly you can only activate 1 per activate symbol. And each can only be activated once per turn: so there are ways to produce some power plays for sure!
@@LordoftheBoard another things is the relocate rule apply to Thanos too? Because the rule didn't allow ally or item to be relocated to other player domain (but can bring it back). For e.g in my domain only have legion of thanos and black dwarf or black swan, I can relocate my ally to stone location due to 'consult the well' but I need to vanquish others ally to take the stone, but if I dont use deliver judgement then its going to discarded too, which left the stone there cannot taken anymore because I cannot relocate my ally to take it.
I'd honestly love to see your take on Ultron because he seems to be the worst of all 5, if you don't give him heros to fight then he cant effectively remove two of his sentries to complete the first task not to mention if Hela is involved any hero that could be placed on his board can be taken away by her too and even if events show up to help you get remove said sentries Thanos putting infinity stones on them prevent them from leaving the domain
Mr. Quinn hey! I see one of the reasons you are struggling with him right off the bat. So for that first goal.. all of those are costs. So to complete that one you can remove 2 sentries just by discarding to the discard pile.
@@LordoftheBoard but the cost specifically says "Remove two sentries from your domain" and unless I'm missing something, your hand doesnt count as part of your domain, right? O.o therefore discarding shouldn't work.
Casey McDannald no you can’t. Basically you can pay the requirements of the Tile. Then you remove two sentrys on your board to flip the tile over. You can just remove them as payment if you have them. It is not an action. It is just a goal he has to complete just Pete.
Hi guys...I want to ask something if anyone knows...my version of Power Stone reads" add two +1 strength tokens to an ally you control"...is that a misprint? In every other site or video I see the Power Stone adds the strength tokens to up to 2 allies
I have one question. Is anybody able to relocate anywhere? Or is it just Thanos? I had read, (most likely misread) that no one can travel to another villains domain, unless a card says so.
The way I have been describing this, has been it a more gamey version of villainous and rewards those who take playing boardgames seriously. It’s a bit more complex but generally the same. If you play villainous you can learn. But it may take longer to start getting reallly good.
@@LordoftheBoard Ok. I've played Disney Villainous a lot. Both real games with friends and family and solo games with myself. I've played more than enough solo games.
David Stone you’ll be just fine. I may try to teach my mom Disney Villainous, but I would marvel villainous if that helps at all 😂 the goals are just less straightforward and more complex
Love to see your videos! Maybe Taskmaster next? I'm really interested in him. Too bad the game will take forever to be available in my country. We still don't have the second small Disney Villainous box...
